apollo210 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 My family is planing to go to Pennsyvannia in the Atloona area. Besides that baseball field, are there any other attractions in the area? Also can both parks be done in one day? And are there any citys within 50m miles from the area.
larrygator Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 1 - both parks can be done in one day. 2 - look at a map to find cities nearby 3 - you posted this question in the Ask Alvey section, so technically if you want others to answer, you should post in the main section of the site 4 - don't get upset when people refuse to answers questions that can easily be found with a little more effort and research on your part
N'at Man Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Horseshoe Curve (famous train track) is in the area. I've only ridden through it but there is a viewing area and visitors center. State College is the closest city to Altoona. Just head north I-99/Rt. 220. It is home to Penn State University so that's a good place to wander around and check things out along with the town itself. Sticky buns and the Creamery Ice Cream are famous up there. DelGrosso's and Lakemont can certainly be done in one day. They're only about 15 miles apart.
shesaidboom Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 I did Idlewild, Lakemont and Del Grosso's in one day, with a lot of time to spare. That's with re-rides and wandering around the parks for a while. There's really not much to do at Lakemont or Del Grosso's and Lakemont was deserted when I was there. Honestly, it's a dump If you go to Lakemont after 5 pm it's cheaper to get in. I think it was $14 all day and $8 or $6 after 5. It'll take you 20 minutes to do everything there unless there are actually people and you have to wait in lines, or if you have to wait for people to ride with. They need at least six people to run the coaster and if you're of normal size, at least three people to run Leap the Dips.
307 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Also, Lakemont is located behind the baseball stadium, so it's not exactly hard to get to. I still find that awesome.
