I was reading the rules about uploading videos and came across this rule?

Why is there such a rule?

Does it have to do with saving space, keeping files organized on the server, things like that?

I was just wondering, because zipped files can carry viruses, and while I trust everything that I download from this site, I still am suprised zipped files are even allowed, much less required.

So, robb (or whoever answers first), why do you want files to be zipped before uploading?

I know I post ZIP version of my movies to my website - because I don't want people viewing them in their browser. They download it and save it to their HD to view it. Plus it saves space. Dunno why TPR does it though.

All I know is that they are compressed and they are not video files.

Also at school and work, video files are blocked. So Since they are not video files, I can download them without them beign blocked!

It saves bandwidth. Even if it's just a tiny amount from the compressed video to the .zip file, when we get hundreds of thousands of downloads each month, it helps.

Also, streaming has proven to be nothing but problematic for us. Some codec work in some browsers, but not others, etc.

For the official TPR videos, we'll do streaming versions because we can control the content, but for the uploads, a .zip file is the best way to control it and helps save bandwidth.

lol, thats funny.

Thanks for the explanation, Robb.

That makes sense, I forgot that zipped files are smaller.
