TPR illegal in France?
PeoplemoverMatt replied to Noxegon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd say TPR should declare war on France, but France would just surrender again. -
There are a few real, and serious problems preventing DanceCoaster from going up. 1) Psyclone's ghost still haunts the area. 2) All the terminators wandering around after closing intimidate the construction workers. Some Resistance members on their break had to inform them of the threat. When that happened, the workers dropped the track and ran. Unfortunately they ran right in the direction of the terminators' daytime lair in the hills behind the park. They haven't been heard from since. 3) One of the surveyors watched "Poltergeist" far too many times and is now petrified of building structures on open dirt lots. He doesn't know what the demolition team didn't remove in case they were supposed to remove something other than the old building. Hopefully all this gets resolved by 2011.

Computer Issues - HELP!
PeoplemoverMatt replied to PeoplemoverMatt's topic in Random, Random, Random
Yeah, I've basically figured out that it's not the monitor, or a loose connection somewhere inside the tower. I'm going to attempt to track down a graphics card identical/similar to the one I have and hope it solves at least the garbled screen problem. Unfortunately that effort might all be a waste if I can't get the OS to load. -
I have no idea what happened. One moment I was happily running a game I've run for years without any trouble, and then next - BOOM! The screen partly freezes up/partly goes fuzzy in sections. I do a hard shutdown, then restart only to get this: So since safe mode didn't work at all for some reason, I have it start up under the last known good configuration. Windows loads with the display settings totally screwed up. I adjust the settings to make my desktop at least legible, but it still looks like this: Then I try updating the driver for the graphics card, and now Windows won't load at all. I get the first screen and then the monitor reports no signal, and goes blank. First question obviously is WHAT is going on? Secondly, how in the world do I go about fixing it? I'm running an old Windows XP Pro Pentium 4 machine with an Nvidia GeForce4 4200. I'm guessing the problem is somewhere in the monitor/graphics card area, especially since the breakdown occured while I was playing the game. Other than that, I have no idea where to even start with this. Any help anyone can offer would be most appreciated, but please form your explanations as if you were describing the problem to a 5 year old. I'm not so good with the techie language. Thanks.

Fine by me! -
^But when you really have no idea why the audio hasn't worked, it's a giant, and IMO unfair, assumption to say that the audio hasn't worked because "SF has no motivation or desire to uphold the standards of the original product." That kind of assumption flies directly in the face of everything that SFMM has done & is doing to improve the park, and I believe their track record over the past few years is proof that things have indeed changed big time for the better. Just because you may not know the reason for the audio difficulties doesn't mean they're intentionally not fixing it. I'm sure there was a cause for the problem, there's a reason why it hasn't been on in a while, and that we'll all learn the story behind the difficulties at some point in the future once the situation has been resolved one way or the other.

Just for some off-topic shiggles, here's a less famous Nascar race car that races without the contingency stickers: -
So I got a chance to ride X2 earlier this week for the first time since a little bit after X2 first opened as X2. Inside seat, 2nd row to the last row that would exit the loading area on dispatch. It was much smoother than I remember X2 being. The audio was also MUCH louder, which made for a much better ride IMO. Anyone else notice these kinds of improvements?

The stickers making the train look "ugly" is an opinion & those who hold it are entitled to it. I can totally see where you all are coming from there. But, saying they're "ugly" is different than saying they're "cheap-looking" or "unnecessarily realistic." That's all I'm saying. At the end of the day, it's a coaster train that's trying, somehow, to resemble a race car. It's not going to be perfect. -

That'd be a great idea for an NFL-themed coaster. Gotta switch your brain from 'theme park industry' mode to 'trademark usage permission' mode to understand why realism is important in this case. I highly doubt Cedar Fair gave two hoots about the stickers on the trains, or the theme in general. The people who cared about the look & how the theme was displayed to the public would be the top executives at Dale Earnhardt Inc. who own the rights to Dale's name, likeness, signature, and other trademarks, and Richard Childress Racing who owns the look of the familiar numeral 3. Realism is EXTREMELY important to both of them in any aspect of the legacy of Dale Earnhardt. If the look wasn't realistic, there's no possible way that they'd have signed the agreement for the use of the familiar trademarks. DEI & RCR would be the ones who'd insist on the realistic look, conceivably down to the contingency stickers on the cars that Dale used to drive. To go back to the Babe Ruth coaster analogy, Cedar Fair wouldn't give two hoots about realism there either, but the Yankees would make darn sure that the Yankess logo/uniform/etc was precisely correct down to the millimeter. -

Why do contingency stickers = cheap? I don't see the connection. On real Nascar race cars, those contingency stickers match up to programs run by the companies whose logos are on those stickers. These programs earn the race teams money that helps them keep racing. I know people don't really like seeing sponsors' logos in major sports, but in Nascar, where there is no franchising, and nothing down to the tires & gasoline is provided, sponsorship dollars is vital to the continued existence of the teams, and thus, the sport. Like the sport or not. Different strokes for different folks. However, I just don't see where cheap fits into that. I agree this is a very smart theme for a park in the Carolinas where Nascar's hub is. It would be like having a Babe Ruth-themed coaster at a major park near Cooperstown, NY if there was such a park. -
Club TPR is HERE! Join now!
PeoplemoverMatt replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I enjoyed reading the email I received giving me all the reasons why I should join Club TPR. Two things stood out to me: 1) That I'm the abnormal one becoming a Club TPR member. 2) If I'm a Club TPR member, I'll be 10 times sexier than those who aren't. So does that mean if I join Club TPR, I'll be abnormally sexy? -
It has been previously mentioned by SFMM brass that Colossus won't be running both sides simultaneously mostly because the cost of staffing both sides is prohibitive, and that Colossus won't be running backwards year-round mostly because the heavier B&M Psyclone trains beat the structure up pretty good each year.
