One important difference between Texas and California is seismic structural requirements and code. A lot of Colossus' density is due to these building codes. With New Texas Giant, Rocky Mtn demonstrated that they can be rather creative when it comes to structure, and I don't doubt they could breath an entire new lifetime into Colossus if given the chance. However, it's probably not a good idea to start thinking that what worked for New Texas Giant can directly translate to building a coaster on seismically active ground in CA.

Gaza strip water park!
PeoplemoverMatt replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's the most modesty I've ever seen in a swimming pool or water park not in the 1920s... -
But unlike the early 2000s, SFMM is also getting rid of the park's most insane maintenance nightmares. Flashback, Psyclone, Log Jammer, Deja Vu, and others all gone. What is gained from getting rid of them more than makes up for the increased resource demand that new rides bring in both short & long term maintenance. The park isn't really expanding so much as it is simply reorganizing its resources and putting them to much more relevant & beneficial use. Nothing to worry about at all.

Well the best part is that there's been so many improvements made in so many areas of the park asthetics-wise, and still people focus on the ground under Scream. I just feel sorry for anyone who ruins the great time they could be having riding Scream, or Colossus, or Goliath, or any other coaster that's built on a former parking lot because they see pavement & white stripes below them. How sad is that, really? If it was grass instead of pavement, would they really be yelling, "WOOOOOOOOOOO!!! GRAAAAAAAAAAASSSS!!!!"? I sorta doubt it. So why let the pavement ruin your ride? Maybe it'll change someday, and maybe it won't. It's no reason to complain for years, and years, and years, and years...

Ah, Deja Vu. I knew you your whole life. As your parts were lifted into place, I was there watching. When your first public cycle was pulled up the tower, I was jealous that I was in the queue rather than on that train. I was on your 11th cycle, after counting each one from the queue. You provided some really cool photos of coaster elements interacting with various angles of the sun. I whacked my head pretty good on one of your cross beams trying to get to the seat on the other side of the train. We had some good times. 10 years ago, you took Psyclone's extended queue and used its space to breath life into a struggling corner of the park. Then when Psyclone bid farewell, you kept that area of the park active as much as you could while Psyclone's replacement was designed and installed. Now as Apocalypse takes the baton, we say thanks for the memories, and have fun at SFNE. With fond remembrance, we look forward to what's next for that familiar corner at the base of the magic mountain.

Not at all. Almost every report I've read from people who haven't gone in 4-5 years is full of high points talking about how much better the park is now compared to their last memory of it. You can easily tell when people haven't gone in 5+ years because they're the only ones who'd talk about SFMM's 'gangbanger problem' or how trashy the park is, or something like that.

I somehow doubt whatever info you're given will have any real basis in fact, especially since you appear to be seeking info for the purposes of posting it on the internet. Call it a hunch. Besides, everyone already knows Saggy Boobs: The Ride is coming in 2013. There's even a tagline: "Flash Pass has a whole new meaning!"
