Silverwood Discussion Thread
swfan1988 replied to Damien666's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Roller Coaster Alley posted an opening day trip report for the park, it includes details about the COVID-19 measures as well as general updates. Here is the link: https://www.rollercoasteralley.com/silverwood-opening-day-2020-trip-report/ I think the most interesting thing is that it looks like they are in the middle of updating the train stunt show/robbery. I don't know when it's going to debut, but hopefully it will soon!! -

Sounds like it must have been a refurbishment/rebuild. Roller Coaster Alley is doing Twitter updates for opening day and it looks like Tremors train looks like it got a fresh coat of paint at least, and no graphics on the front. Maybe they gave both woodies trains an upgrade? Tremors train looks different/new/refurbished too - Photo from Roller Coaster Alley Twitter -

Thanks Comeagain? !!! That's interesting that some can be found but rarely, probably not the easiest parts to just make either. I hope Knoebels can keep getting parts for Phoenix. That ride would truly suffer if it lost its buzz bars. Timber Terror will hopefully handle it ok. -

I don't think so. I know Knoebels got the old Rolling Thunder trains for spare parts for Phoenix, which has buzz bars and I assume Rolling Thunder did too. I think if you go to PTC's website they don't sell new buzz bar trains, just the ones with the individual lap bars and some that are articulated (think Millennium Flyer style trains, made by PTC) I don't know for sure but it doesn't seem like they still make parts for the buzz bars. -

They had seat belts before, so I assume there's seat belts now as well. The belts were not a bid deal, they were their for extra safety. The original buzz bars were what made the ride more special. Also, I saw the local news report and it does look like the train got new paint as well, at least. It looks to be solid green with a black strip at the top, rather than the gradual fade to yellow at the back that it previously had. I think that makes paint change number 3, for the ride. -

Yeah, the lasts couple of seasons at least one row towards the back was out of commission. Even last year their was a broken row on opening day. It must have seriously become an issue last year. It's hard for me to tell, but does it look like they bought a new train or just changed the restraint on the old one? Either way I guess we'll have to ride it to find out how much of an affect the new restraints have on the ride experience. Here's to hoping its not as bad as it could be!!! (See Great American Scream Machine, SFOG, please may it not be as bad as people say that thing is!) -

Well there's good news and bad news... The good news is that due to the good weather, Boulder Beach opens may 30 along with the theme park!!! The bad news is...deep breath everybody... It appears the park has removed the buzz bars on Timber Terror and replaced them with traditional PTC lap bars. I'm disappointed but can see why since it's probably getting harder and harder to get parts for those bars and they have had at least one row broke the last couple of years. Still it's something that made Timber Terror unique, and now I think Phoenix is definitely my favorite. The photo below show it, it's from the local news and they also had some photos on the various COVID-19 measures the park is taking, you can check them out through Roller Coaster Alley's Twitter page. Oh the abomination...RIP Timber Terror with buzz bars 1996-2019... -

The website has a lot of trouble, but it eventually works, it just says that they are closed (same as the facebook page). When you click on the areas for questions it goes to a "Contact Us" form. I guess they are expecting people to write them or something, but they don't seem very forth coming about the whole thing. As a side note Fantasy Island's website and facebook page has been updated the same way, confirming that it is closed as well. RIP -

I wish to extend my full condolences to the Indiana Beach fans. Its a shame that the park closed so suddenly and it didn't get a proper send off. I never got to visit but it sounds like it was a unique and fun park. I hope this isn't the start of a trend for small regional parks like this. As for what will happen next, I hope the whole park gets sold to someone who really cares, hopefully a local businessman or someone like that. If it get sold to anther chain I think Palace Entertainment might be a good option. Both Indiana Beach and Fantasy Island would fit well it seems with their parks (Kennywood, Idlewild, Lake Compounce, Dutch Wonderland etc.) Personally though I think that if they find buyers for the individual rides than its over. No one will want to buy a park where half/most of the major rides have been sold and removed. Guess we'll have to wait and see, maybe now that its out that its closing someone will step up to the plate and buy it. -

That makes sense, it's still kinda weird. I don't remember that happening before? Also aren't they usually just closed during the week till June? -

Does anyone know why the park is so specific in being closed on may 26 and 27 and June 2 and 3? Seems kinda weird to me. Here's the link to the calendar: https://www.silverwoodthemepark.com/park/park-hours.php?Month=7 -

swfan1988 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know this may sound weird but, could it be ole smokey? I was at the park in August and it was closed with some construction equipment nearby and the train was no where to be seen. Although I don't know if the equipment belonged to the whatever thing is next to the ride station or not. Did it ever reopen? I don't know what they would replace it with except with another train since there wasn't a lot of room there, at least that I could see. -
Agreed. There is a hold up/stunt show on the train and they donate any money collected to a local charity (can't remember which one). The lead up of the story to the show is pretty good with the buffalo and some relatively elaborate sets, but the second half after the show really gets me. It doesn't flow as well and it plays off the British Expedition theme they try and mix with the wild west and it just doesn't work for me. It was better when they just turned on some music and let you enjoy the woods on the second half.

YAAAAAAYYY!!!!!!! I'm glad the park is finally getting some attention! (The golden tickets failed once again in that respect). Thanks for the great report! And, for not mentioning the log flume... On the ops, I think every Silverwood fan prays for the day that they add second trains... the ops have their good days and bad, but I still don't think they have to check the seat belt 50 times. On the plus side I can't remember the last time they had any major incident. Don't feel too bad on the train, its a great ride but I think its been on the decline the last few years. Although it could be a side effect of me riding it so many times. Its really a shame that the park gets over shadowed for enthusiasts, I think if the park added a solid/good steel coaster It would help a lot. But then again I could make a multi-page list of what (I think) the park needs to add... Nice pics! And thanks again for such a great report!
-
Its too bad about all the closed rides at Wild Waves, I've heard good things about Klondike Gold Rusher, but most everything else looks kinds ehh. Part of me feels like Wild Waves would really benefit from a Six Flags take over, (as much as it hurts to say) like Darien Lake. Oh well, at least you have the best park in the northwest coming up, right?
-
Thanks for the report, nice pics! Oaks has made lots of improvemwnts that last few years (THANK YOU Gerstlauer!), but the loss of the Lusse scooters is a bummer. I remember thoose from the PBS documentary. I still think though that Oaks is ripe for one of those Gravity Group wooden family coasters. They could stick it in the North end passed the skating rink and behind the mini golf.

I have high hopes for the show, I think it could be a good thing that makes the park more unique. -
I'm glad the park is finally getting some attention! (It's my home park if you couldn't tell) The one train ops are a bummer but its just the way it is... Dark Ride: PLEASE!!!!! I'm not sure why it doesn't get more attention, especially since its better than some other northwest parks.. (cough cough Wild Waves, cough cough Oaks Park cough cough)

swfan1988 replied to Damien666's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm terrible at reading teasers and clues, but I think I got something! (Be warned: This could just be a home park nerd begging for something new) Recently, Silverwood posted new commercial on their Facebook page for grandparents weekend. The park puts their commercials up on the page every once in awhile (Nothing out of the ordinary there!) But this one was different, I watched it and instead of ending with the park logo (like all their other commercials), It goes to another scene. It shows the commercials actors driving away in the parking lot, when the granddaughter makes a comment "I Think I'm Ready For A Nap" and the grandma says "Night-Night". Now I though this was kinda odd for a couple of reasons: 1. Silverwood never ends their commercials with a scene like that. (That I know of) 2. It seems to be an odd comment to make at the end of a commercial. The other thing is this: If you take the first letters of the words that were said and unscramble them it spells TRAIN, and if you add the remaining letters than it adds the word FINN to the end. The train part makes sense, but I can't figure out the FINN part. The best I could come up with is TRAIN FINNish, but that doesn't make any sense since Silverwood would never get rid of the train (And if they did I think most people would be horrified) Unless they are trying to quietly say it won't come back next year (for whatever reason), or they are saying that something with a fin will have a train or a train theme. And what has a train and fins, a ROLLER COASTER!!!! What do you think? This probably sounds stupid, but I think this might be a teaser and Light up the Night might not be the only thing coming (at least I kinda hope not!) -

Is it just me or does it feel like the announcement for Light up the Night was kinda rushed? I mean like they said "more details will be released as we create the show" or something to that affect. It makes me wonder if their is something else in the pipe/that's is going to be announced and they didn't want to/weren't ready to announce the drone show, yet. I don't think we should get our hopes up, but it is just a thought. -

Looks like they are getting some kind of night time drone show. They are calling it "Light up the Night" (It could be worse folks) It sounds fun, especially if its like a unique show, with unique patterns. But I don't think they really needed a night time show, they need more rides and slides. I'm glad they are getting something new, but I think they need to focus on expanding their rides rather than just shows. Maybe RMC next year? Or is it still under raps for this year? -

I don't think so. Usually what seems to happen is once closing time comes the supervisors will start walking around putting up ride closed signs. You can get in line until they put the sign up (sometimes as much as 10/15 minutes passed the posted closing time, depending on the ride) and the operator will keep cycling people through on the ride till the line is empty. That's usually how it works, although I don't know if it's changed. Are you going to do a trip report Canobie Coaster? -

Both are excellent and I think underrated. They do only run one train on both though so beware the lines. Also, skip the log flume, unless you really want to ride, as there's nothing special about it. Edit: I personally think that Timber Terror is the better of the two. -

Thanks! That's great! Is this your first visit, Canobie Coaster? I hope you enjoy your visit! It's really a cool place (although I'm biased cause it's my home park)
