Six Flags used to contract Oak Island Creative for Holiday in the Park so in short, they didn't do it which is why it looks nice.

I'm not sure what the deal is now though. Oak Island Creative no longer exists. I believe they sold to Keen Designs but I'm not sure if they exist either. I'd imagine they're still using some outside contractor though.

I know SFMM uses a local lighting designer.

Define the word "us." I like B&M hypers and I like B&M gigas. I find Diamondback, Goliath, Mako, and Raging Bull especially all ride different from one another. If you've ridden one classic wooden out-and-back coaster, have you ridden them all?

I'd be able to relate to your idea much more if we were talking about wild mouse coasters and boomerangs. Hypers just don't seem to be 'your' flavor.

To each their own. B&M’s are what they are: they look pretty and are reliable, so parks will keep buying them.  The 2019 coaster poll results speak to what I am saying: the first B&M comes in at number 11. The next B&M hyper/giga is all the way at 27.  Intamin, RMC, and Mack dominate  the list since they push the envelope much more

Wow!  Is that the first shot we've seen of the interior and track for Guardians?  Looks pretty darn twisty!  There's definitely going to be some weird forces to be felt on this.  Drifting, rotating backwards while going through turns, etc, all while sensory overload is happening around you with added effects.  I can't wait to ride it.

The Star Wars hotel is looking better with each new release, as well.  I'm curious if they have some way to control the hotel group from leaving Galaxy's Edge, though.  The website mentions visiting the Black Spire Outpost "and more," but does that mean we're free to explored the rest of Hollywood Studios or are we somehow restricted to only be in Galaxy's Edge during the 2-day experience?  It'll be interesting to see how they navigate that aspect.  Either way I'm totally booking it once it and Guardians are open.

I remember reading somewhere that there would be a themed transport to take you from the hotel into the parks (presumably something like the Hogwarts Express windows on a themed bus), so I also assume they will just make up some story to transport you back from the real world to the hotel.

LOL.  Don't let that affect your travel plans.  It's unenforceable.  If you're legitimately scared of the virus with a .0007% kill rate, by all means stay home, but don't let silly edicts with no consequences that defy logic determine your behavior.

Before this thread derails off course into a COVID discussion, I’ll just keep it simple:  everyone should follow their state and local guidelines.  This isn’t something up for debate on TPR.

Now back to your regularly scheduled BGW discussion.

Actually, Orange County is in the red tier, and (at the moment) shows no sign of slipping back.  And I was thinking, "how can they be in red, when so many there are anti-mask?"  But I think the answer lies in what you said about SF:  it's a wealthy area, so they have no issue staying home.

I know Orange County is in the red tier. They will be stuck there, since the odds of a population of 3 million that also spans a much larger area than SF with a lower median income (only parts of OC are high income). LA county will forever be purple for that same reason.

These tiers are designed to give people false hope but these metrics aren't realistic anywhere but the must rural areas. It just sounds better to give people false hope than to say "Theme parks aren't opening until the middle of 2021 when a vaccine is available to a reasonable number of people even though they're not really a source of covid spread but we don't care about that. Also we're following the science® ".

The flaw with the tiers is a one size fits all approach.  Newsom touted how San Fransisco was able to move into the yellow tier...with a population of 850,000 and a total area of 46 square miles. As well as the highest housing costs in the country and a median income of $130k. So basically, you don’t actually live in San Fran unless you’re a millionaire.  Of course they can afford to safely stay home.

Totally comparable to Santa Cruz County, with less population (250k), but 445 square miles of land and a median income that is half is much, so people in Santa Cruz actually have to work and travel to get places.  Or larger counties like LA county and Orange County, with 10m and 3m people respectively...

What other park in the competitive Cali market is even close to 20 coasters?

Don’t think it’s about number of coasters, it’s about differentiating yourself in a market that includes so many options.  My friends see six flags as the roller coaster/thrills park here too, so being able to brag about 20 coasters only reinforces that.

Fun fact: outside of Superman, roaring rapids is the second most expensive ride at the park to operate. The pumps draw a ton of power.  Jet Stream is in the top 5 as well for the same reason. Would not be the least bit surprised if magic mountain has plans to remove all of them for a water ride that is more energy efficient in the next few years.

Unless they somehow win the lawsuit, next MAY is now what's being circulated in the break room so that by then most people will be hopefully vaccinated. Too much liability if some sick person comes in and spreads it however which way.; they'll just have to spend all that money to ramp up and shut down again. There's no ride manual for COVID. They are also going to need a huge amount of security staff and cameras because people tend to let their guards down around their friends i.e. all the young guests and somehow they've gotta keep this under control. You know how respectful people were and appropriate acting before COVID 🤪. It's going to be really weird how things work and damn hard to make sure people don't hoard together in queues as it's always been. And the indoor rides are apparently on the back burner when they re-open, which really sucks because everyone loves that air conditioning in the Valencia summer months They don't want a post-holiday spike. Who knows what'll actually happen from D.O.H. It's the definition of insanity for a SFMM-sized park to be closed for 15 months and sit empty. Except for those drunk kids who climbed the SkyTower

If the state sticks to major parks being in the yellow tier, May is optimistic unless an effective vaccine launches before then.  less than 1 case per 100k people in a county with a population of 10 million just isn’t feasible right now.

Not trying to get into a debate here, but how is working and earning a living not a constitutional right?  Second paragraph man.

There are other jobs available.  Not even close to a fair comparison.  And I’m someone who is a causality of this nonsense.

The rational argument you should be making is how if the goal is to keep people from congregating and spreading the virus, why isn’t everything shut down?  Costco on the weekend is a madhouse.  Same for malls.  Even Sea World operating as a “zoo” and Knotts as “outdoor dining” being open makes no sense if the goal is to keep people from spreading the virus.  What magical powers to rides have to spread the virus?

^Except Knott's is known more for their food and atmosphere than Six Flags is.  Six Flags is a rides park plain and simple so I don't think that model would work well for them.  I actually feel for you guys out in Cali and really hope the governor looks at the science and opens up outdoor parks soon!

People in so cal are so starved for theme parks, 2020 is probably the only year they could get away with it.  Even I’d probably go!

  11. November 15th is now the latest sign-up-able ETA per the online internal schedule. Who knows? This is right after the election. They've already cancelled hundreds of shifts, so fasten your seatbelts and safety harnesses. The good news. The park will be so clean your head will spin. Wait until you see the restrooms! Superman will be closed due to the already stanky tunnel. Along with rides with inside queues. (currently under going discussion/re-design). Stand by.

It will stay clean for a grand total of 5 minutes once it reopens.

  12. Please note that my post was specifically in reply to the one above it; in retrospect I should have quoted it.

And I stand by my assessment that no one cares if you dislike the current state of affairs and aren't going to parks because of it, as the post mine was responding to states. That does not add anything to the discussion of what parks will be like in 2021 or beyond.

Thank you for your very valuable contribution to the discussion. Meanwhile my post cited aspects of 2020 that I hope are different in 2021. You know, the topic of the conversation.

*shrug* Not going to argue with you.

You didn’t need to have such a petty reply since the original comment is relevant to the topic. He didn’t need to reply after. Both of you move on now please.
