Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Last I knew Cedar Point doesn't have a wild mouse. Doubtful it's coming to CP though but could fit with the boardwalk theme. -

Not to sidetrack some of the typical forum ribbing but it appears that Cedar Point has a new fairly large masked off staging area setup next to Breakers Express again. Same field / lot that they used to stage Valravn and Maverick. Could it just be for the steel beams for the new Grand Pavilion? Could be. But seems weird to me that they would mask it off with privacy fence and not just go with typical unmasked wire fencing if it was just steel beams. Could be interesting. Very likely not though. -

Small little info drop by Paul Nelson in a recent local news spot regarding July 4th changes this year. At the end of the update they mention: https://www.yourerie.com/news/local-news/fourth-of-july-at-waldameer-whats-changing-for-the-holiday/ My guess is that it's a ProSlide Tornado (either 60 or 45) that will fill in the current grass plot left over from the old kiddie splash pools that were removed when the Kidz Zone was added. -
I, personally, would doubt that they would scrap them. They can be great fillers for other parks, especially with Patriot's recent reno into a floorless. I likely see Patriot going to MiA or WoF and Flight Deck going to KD. The "not on flat ground" argument might be valid, but that can easily be accommodated for with land grating and/or a few new supports.

To be honest, you'll probably never hear anything else about it unless they can't reach some sort of settlement on it and have to take it to court. If they reach (or reached) a settlement, there will be coinciding NDAs and the due to to HIPAA laws only the patient (or family) can discuss any medical situations. -

Gotcha, thanks! Kind of figured it was something zoning wise just looking back on the hurdles that Sheetz faced when building at the corner of 8th and Peninsula (requiring lower signage and pump coverings). Would definitely look better if there was some sort of ground-style Waldameer sign (ala Cedar Point's causeway entrance sign) at the corner or even nothing at all. Just always perplexed me that it was left standing as I drive by it multiple times a day and think about it each time. -

Quick, random question for @ajfelice. Are there any plans for the old Inn at Presque Isle sign tower that remains at the corner of 6th and Peninsula? I know that it was left and painted after everything was levelled and the parking lot finished but never knew why there wasn't any done with it since. -

Looks like at least one of the flaws (that I experienced) of B&M's stand-ups has been solved in going only 2 wide. The most painful seats (to me) were always the outside seats, furthest away from the centerline. Hopefully their new design does work better in the nut-crushing department. Interesting to see them bringing back the stand-up concept. -

Looks like the Blue Streak iconic turnaround got unceremoniously torn down today: https://fb.watch/ay2a-CAJA8/ As much as I know there was no saving the park, this is just sad to watch. A lot of memories from the park in its final "glory" years and just visiting during the early 2000s just to take a ride on BS with my father (who is no longer with us). Feels like a piece of me is going with it. Gotta love progress. -

^ That is correct and somewhat annoying. Being a web developer, I've come across this on many websites I've worked on. Long story short, within JPG files there is a EXIF data flag for "orientation" which are values 1-8, the common values being 1 (no rotation), 3 (rotated 180°), 6 (rotated 90°) and 8 (rotated -90°). Essentially your camera (and it's sensors) always take photos in one static direction, but based on the accelerometer in the device it will flag it for orientation differences. Some image programs naturally observe this and display it in it's intended orientation when viewed on screen, but browsers (and web applications), typically show it in the original form without checking against the flag. Easiest way to rectify this is (by the user) usually opening the images in a photo editor which usually will interpret the flag and show it to you correctly and when you save/re-save the image, it will save it in the way it is displayed on your screen with the orientation flag set to "1" by default. It can be handled on the server end by checking the file and manipulating it on upload, but I'm not entirely sure how Invision board uploads are handled, but I assume there is either a plugin or add-on that exists for it, or it could be updated manually. Willing to help if it's at all desired. -

Unfortunately it doesn't not surprise me very much. One of their major draws was "free admission" which had to be done away with this season for attendance / capacity tracking purposes. This has been a major complaint from what I've seen and heard, despite the fact that it was almost 100% mandatory for them to have to do it. I did buy two season passes this year (for both my wife and I, as we live literally less than a 1/4 mile down the road), but we still have yet to visit. We love to take spend random time there throughout the summers, just walking around, riding a few things, people watch, get food, etc. This year, we haven't had the time to go, but just buying the passes to support the park is the least I could do. The parking lots have been pretty empty every time I've looked. As much as all of the pandemic restrictions have hurt the bottom line for the "big guns," there are so many small parks suffering (like all small businesses in general). It's incredibly sad. If you can make some time to visit, be sure to. If not to enjoy a fairly empty park then just to support a park that is getting the **** end of the economic stick. -

Great to hear AJ. I'm guessing this will be a reconfiguration to include some of the space left over from the removal of the old kiddy pools. Also, AJ, something I've been curious about this since the parking lot expansion... Does Waldameer have any plan for the old Inn at Presque Isle sign that was left over at the intersection of Peninsula and 6th? It was painted during the expansion, but I've been surprised that there was no signage placed on it (even if temporary). -

The wheel seats on RFII definitely allow you to feel the rattle more, but it definitely feels smoother this year than it has in the past. Took a couple of laps last week in the 3rd car of the red train in both wheel seats and it wasn't bad. With the speed the train maintains throughout the ride the wheel seats will always give more punch than the first row. There isn't much let up in the layout. -

Eh, par the course for Erie from the start of May until about the second week of June in terms of weather forecasting. Most of the time it's just a straight 40% to 60% chance of rain predicted every day. The only thing you can really count on is the temperature being fairly accurate, although every day has been around 5 degrees or more above the forecasted high. -
Just because the registrar is GoDaddy and it's pointing at GoDaddy nameservers doesn't mean that they have control of the GoDaddy account that holds it. While you are more than likely correct (and by that I mean probably like 99.75% correct), there is a chance that if someone else holds the GoDaddy, there wouldn't be much they could do as GoDaddy is complete garbage in assisting with account related access stuff. We've had a lot of nightmare scenarios with my clients that a developer took access of an account or became the owner (through transfer or the like) and GoDaddy pretty much said "oh well, nothing we can do." Since the nameservers are set to GoDaddy the only way to do anything with the domain would be through the owner (or delegate) account.

I'm sure that is more-or-less the land that was being referred to. I'm sure the park would love that piece of property as it is the only barrier from them owning all of the land from lake/Sara's Campground to West 6th Street. As of now, this is (as far as I know) the land map of the land they own. Red = Current Developed Park, Yellow = Parking / Roadway, Blue = Undeveloped Owned Land -

^ I completely agree. It's amazing to see the transformation alone in the water park after almost completely neglecting it (upgrades wise) since it's installation. In terms of the coaster, I know it has to be in their plans. Once ajfelice starts talking at all about it, then we know it'll be close to on it's way The article did state that they do have all of the land they need for their current 10-year plan, but they are not opposed to new land buys if the price is right and it makes sense (quoted Nelson as saying if the price is in range he's "buying it") so that's always good to hear. -

It's still possible that they add a new coaster in the near future, but they won't tip their caps at that until they are ready to announce it. The second you say "we're adding a coaster" without concrete plans in place, you risk a lot. Hell, it might seem like a distant memory now but the whole 10-year long fiasco with Ravine Flyer was a mess of a situation (Park getting construction variances and clearances and their battle with the Candelas, which I never understood). Luckily it worked out, but it had so many hurdles and was so drawn out I don't see them saying stuff too early like that again in the future. I'm still curious what they will do with that hillside behind Rainbow Gardens in the future. They did a lot of land clearing and shaping in that area in the past couple of years. -

A nice little write-up today in the local paper about Waldameer and their "half century of Transformation" https://www.goerie.com/news/20190217/half-century-of-transformation-at-eries-waldameer In addition to Chaos for this year, the park is also installing a new "hot tub" / relaxing pool to the new expansion area (between Kidz Zone and the Wave Pool) which has a capacity of 125-people. The capacity is a 3x bump over the old pool which I believe will also operate this year as "overflow" but will be removed in the future. It has also been announced but not discussed here yet that they are removing their two speed slides (good riddance) and in it's place installing a 6-lane "Rally Racer" slide (same as Whitecap Racer at Hersheypark) for 2020. A couple of other notes from the article regarding upcoming future expansion (no timetable, other than these are in their new 10-year plan): "Lazy/Endless River" to be expanded by at least 50%. "5-person raft ride with a tunnel and a tower" "Automobile ride" to replace the pavilions closest to Comet near train station. Hints at Fall / Halloween operations As a local who only lives two minutes down the street, I'm excited for their dedication and continuing investment into the park. Definitely one of the bright spots of Erie. -

Decided to stop into the park late today just to take a walk around with the wife. Surprisingly this is the first time I've been to the park this year even though I live less than a quarter mile down the road. The water park definitely looked packed today (not shocking as it got up to about 96 degrees today). Scoped out where the new ride is going next year. For sure looking forward to it. Will definitely be a great addition to the park. -

My wife was at the park today and sent me a picture of the Spider. Currently looks as if its sitting in pieces. Curious if it's just down for maintenance or something larger?
