  1. At the start of the season security was random days of the week. Only once or twice a week and the days were determined by corporate. After the shooting in Orlando it became daily. Earlier in the season on days the checks were not occurring the park removed the plastic fence. So far the longest wait I have had was about 5 minutes. Which compared to the 90 minute wait at Magic Mountain in March is pretty good.
  2. How are the restraints on Vertical Velocity? The only coaster which I have ever had to do the walk of shame is Wicked Twister at Cedar Point. I felt like the problem on twister was the seat belt but was wondering if I might have a similar problem on V2? Wanted to come back and answer my own question. Huge difference in the seat belt. The length is reasonable and easily 2 or 3 inches longer than the belts on wicked twister.
  3. Cedar Fair is not responsible for the decisions made by the previous owners of the park. Fans of parks like Dorney would likely prefer that Cedar Fair never purchased the Paramount Parks. Canada's Wonderland has been getting investments which are in line with the park's importance in the chain. Over the next 10 years the park will continue to get new attractions, not just coasters. My personal guess is that over that time frame they will receive 2 or 3 new coasters.
  4. Dorney has half the coasters of Canada's Wonderland. The last time that they received a new coaster which was not relocated was 2005, the year before Cedar Fair purchased Canada's Wonderland. Would you have preferred a used Vekoma inverted boomerang and a used Intamin impulse over Behemoth and Leviathan?
  5. Been sitting on these for a few weeks since they are out of focus at the top. I took the pictures using my cell phone camera and merged them in photoshop. This is all 5 pages of the plans submitted to Mason. Enjoy
  6. Because it is a TOGO stand-up. I was surprised it was not removed years ago and even more surprised they were able to sell the ride. Cedar Fair also appears to be removing all of the stand up rides. They even confirmed talking to B&M about a floorless conversion on Vortex at Great America. Which I suspect Vortex at Carowinds is also being looked at but I have not seen any confirmation. I will point out that confirmation that they are discussing it with B&M does not mean it will happen.
  7. I would be willing to bet the flume is safe. There has been signs that trees behind and to the side are being cut down but no indication that any of the work will impact the flume. From what I have seen the clearing will get close but there should still be a thin line of trees separating the two rides.
  8. That is correct and the clearing is visible from one side of the Racer. The park also does a much larger firework show then normal for the 4th of July weekend. Not sure if people are just being more observant but there are a lot more reports of work going on around the park then normal. For example I have heard that the old action theater was recently gutted.
  9. Expect the announcement in August. Last year they announced something original that has been around since the park opened would be removed. They used pictures of the Racer to discuss this. Then removed the toll booths. Don is very good at his job, which is to get people talking and we are
  10. It is very steep, I also know that there has been speculation the ride would go under the train bridge. The park has been cutting down trees just to the south of the train station, plus there is a lot of clearing south of the log flume, near where the old funnel cake stand was. If I was designing the ride I would put the entrance and exit on that side of the train tracks, plus put the station behind or next to the log flume. This way the line never needs to cross the track tracks. The old funnel cake stand makes sense because that is likely where the gift shop will be located. I would also put the maintenance building on the other side of the tracks to link up to existing maintenance roads. The problem is that I cannot get the layout on the satellite view in a way which makes me happy. It is like I am totally missing something or the overview is off enough that I cannot make it work.
  11. Not sure how much it helps. The plans list the Area of Work as North Abutment Plan. An abutment is the supports under the end of a bridge. The plans also show the grade of the slope showing the land is very steep with the northern part much higher elevation than the southern portion. Which suggests to me that the Area of Work is on the north bank of the water reservoir. Also the coordinates suggest that straight section of track should be at an angle of 157.9 degrees which is close to what you have so you likely are close on orientation.
  12. Totally different types of coasters. I would more compare this to the construction of Prowler at Worlds of Fun. Which did not have concrete poured until July or August. At this point in the year they were still clearing trees. I am just surprised that I have not seen more pictures of what blueprints are available.
  13. Lets try youtube again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv3LreHKZB8 This video is from the same poster as the previous video. Starting around the 15 second mark you will see a better view of the overview and part of the exploded view. The important part is that you will see a north arrow on the drawing which will allow you to orient the coaster. At 56 seconds into the video is shot of the plans with the coordinates of the footers in the section of the ride which is highlighted in the overview. EDIT: I was looking at the video and I just realized the drawing says North Abutment Plan. That means the highlighted section of the layout is the north end of a bridge. Likely the north end of the bridge across the water.
  14. As a warning The Beast closes about 30 minutes early for the fireworks then reopens about 30 minutes after the fireworks to for everyone who was in line to ride. On the plus side most of the park is empty at that point so it is a nice pleasant walk through an empty park.
  15. I decided to spend about 5 minutes and put this together. For anyone who doubts the size of the attraction. This just shows the Racer next to the ride and the station for The Beast next to what I believe to be the station for the new attraction. The goal is just to add a sense of scale. The orientation of the new attraction is close to correct since a video from earlier today which is no longer public shows which direction north is on the layout. Scale could be off. But for anyone who thinks this is too large, how small do you think the ride will be?
  16. I did not post the video, it was public when I posted the link. Basically your totally wrong. That is around 4000 ft of total track, you can measure it on google maps. The station in my picture is actually smaller than the station for The Beast. I can copy the station for The Beast out of the larger image and put it next to the station or overlay it on top if you need more proof. The larger building in Zone 1A is the maintenance building. The station is the smaller of the two.
  17. Let me make something very clear I did not use the coordinates from the blueprints. So I could still be wrong but so much lines up it makes sense to me. But I believe I have the orientation mostly correct due to the earlier video. But I could be off on scaling, or placement. Having said that lets look at how it lines up with what is going on and where existing buildings and rides are. On Sunday I saw a line of stakes down the banks where I show the ride crossing the water. Several of the zone lines appear to line up with the train tracks, I am likely a little off on this. The section where the two sides are together are where it crosses WWC. The two boxes on this section of track are where it crosses the WWC line. The sections of track where the lines are farther apart is likely the sections where the airtime hills are. These line up with the train tracks and maintenance road. Does not touch the log flume. So is this actually correct? No clue, sorry.
  18. A lot bigger. I figured it out last night but thought I was wrong so never posted a picture. I will post the picture this evening but I am pretty confident I figured it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBa9SeOJxEw That video shows more of the layout page including a north arrow. The top of the layout is north already. Basically when I scaled it figuring that it was already turned correctly it mostly lines up with the clearing and ends up being larger than you would think. The southern tip of the coaster will be close to the treeline by the power lines. The section where the coaster looks like it is turning around something north of where the layout says Zone 3 is next to the turn on Diamondback. The line between sections 1A and 1B plus the line between sections 2 and 3 are the train tracks. At least this is the only way it makes sense to me now.
  19. Cedar Point has a very easy long term expansion path available. They could easily build a parking lot off of the peninsula and just run buses to the park. Leave a smaller lot for handicap and premium parking. A parking garage is just too expensive, but building a new lot could be affordable.
  20. I thought Six Flags Great America had that record already? And yeah, Great America and Kings Dominion off the top of my head. I totally forgot about Great America. You are correct it does have more 16,558 feet vs 15,539. So I guess Kings Island will be getting that record at least.
  21. The thing I find strange about this is that Kings Island already has more wooden coaster track then any other park on the planet. My guess is they will have almost 4 miles of wood track after this coaster. Is there even another park with 4 wood coasters?
  22. Attempt number 2 at an overlay. I think I am close on this one. The 90 degree turn out of the station is to go around the log flume. The only problem I have with this is that I am having trouble scaling the layout so I am not on top of the train tracks next to the water reservoir for WWC. But it makes sense to me and would not require the removal of any more buildings or attractions. Entrance and exit are where the funnel cake stand used to be and follows next to the log flume between it and the train tracks. There has been clearing in this area and I was surprised at how much space there is.
  23. Pretty confident that the location of the funnel cake stand will be the entrance, exit, and gift shop. There is clearing next to RFYLCB which looks like a path which I think will lead to a station behind the log flume.
  24. It was filed with the city to get a permit. It is the same way people got the blueprints to both Diamondback and Banshee months before they were announced.
