  1. I've only been to the east coast once but I thought it was much hotter over there than in CA. Most places in California have very temperate weather. I'm pretty much scared to leave the West Coast long-term since I'm so used to the reasonably mild weather here. I don't know how I'd deal with the high humidity, extreme heat and cold, and frequent severe weather events that seem to plague most of the rest of the country! When I spent a summer in Ohio working at CP, I never got used to it. The heat was never easy and it was so obnoxious to wake up to clear sunny skys and by 3 in the afternoon have crazy thunder and lightning and flash floods, only to be clear and warm agin that evening. I absolutely love west coast weather, we are severely spoiled here.
  2. Just found this. The first shot shows one of the drop gondola's going up while ToT runs a cycle. Every video I've found of ToT, I can't notice any tower movement like on superman. Sorry for the link only, I guess I don't know how to embed a youtube video...
  3. ^ Yeah, from what I hear those don't effect each other because the structure doesn't sway as much. I definitely remember reading a post many years about about how the most frightening part of the drop tower(what's it name again?) was when a ToT car came roaring up next to them. I'm curious if they do have to alternate if that will be built into the ride system or done through communication. Like Superman's computer won't allow for dispatch unless Lex is parked in the load station and vice versa, or if they will do it based on the two rides communicating with each other. I can see the communication one failing and them accidentally dispatching both rides at the same time, but a computer mod also seems pricey.
  4. To be honest, the last few trips to SFMM I remember Revolution being pretty decent, even with the OTSRs. I'm pretty hard on SFMM but I do give them credit for keeping Revolution going even though I'm sure a lot of the parts are hard to come by now a days. On another subject, Not sure if this has been discussed but I'm interested in seeing how Superman and Lex Luthor's operations will effect each other. I assume Lex can't run while Superman is cycling due to the tower movement. I've heard they are going to modify operation to alternate ride cycles; Superman runs a cycle, Lex runs one, then Superman and so on. Anyone heard anything about this?
  5. Well, I almost asked for a refund after seeing Ariel's hair. I mean it looked like ice cream. It ruined my life!
  6. I love pretty much any Intamin. Drop Tower(Zone) at CGA, KI, and KD are all great. Hell I even liked SFA's little tower (I think it's called Tower of Doom). But the ones that creep me out the most are Intamin 1st gens. Demon Drop (when it was at CP) The Edge at CGA (back in the day) and Freefall at SFMM (if you happened to catch it on the one day of year it maybe operated).
  7. ^ I think I saw the same ad on a similar billboard (the kind that change) as I was getting off the bay bridge heading home from San Francisco yesterday. Cool to see the park putting ads up. I see the commercials all the time during Giants games on TV.
  8. ^Ah, this I had never heard. In that case I withdraw in snide Yeti comments I may have made. I just grouped it with the previous impression I had of WDW.
  9. I'm not going to get into a Disney fanboy fight here, because I honestly just don't care. As far I'm concerned not a single anamatronic could be working on a Disney ride and it would still be better themed than most anything else (except for maybe some Universal rides). I've just found in the past that in general Disneyland's rides are in better working condition and issues are addressed at more rapid pace. Off the top of my head I remember Splash and Big Thunder having quite a few issues for a long time at WDW. As far as the Yeti, yes it's majorly broken... but it has been for years. You would think something that cost as much as that thing would have seen some work by now. Steering us back on subject before this turns into Micechat, RSR looks pretty amazing. I was worried having seen the layout of the show building that it would be too short and leave you kind of unfulfilled. After watching that video, it looks like it will be a great ride and a decent length.
  10. I'm definitely going with Intamin. B&M has some amazing rides but they are so formulaic. Drop, big loop, dive loop/immelman, zero g, Cobra Roll(or sea serpent), MCBR, 2 corkscrews. Throw in some helices and call it a day. Intamin seems to constantly push the envelope and isn't afraid of going a little far with it even if they have to end up modifying it (Maverick's barrel roll, I305's turn out of the drop). I've enjoyed B&M rides, but I've had a difficult time whipping a smile off my face after some Intamins. Plus their drop rides are the best too.
  11. The Yeti is at Disney World... Disneyland generally keeps their stuff in working order. When things break down they don't add a strobe, they typically fix it.
  12. ^ That's great to hear. I made my first visit last summer and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I don't recall any standout bad operations. The lines were quick and the rides were fun (except Mind Eraser and Roar... headache central!). I'd love to go back and ride Apocalypse.
  13. ^ Never knew you were such a carousel enthusiast. Can't say I'm a huge fan unless it's a historic one, they are always cool to check out. Love the Looff at SCBB.
  14. The support is already fixed. Are you telling me you thought the park was actually going to open it with just a strap holding the support in place? This is a ridiculous argument that everyone just needs to STFU about. The park was smart, they didn't stop construction and delay the ride while they waited to modify a support that wasn't completely needed yet. I'm done.
  15. I've never been a fan of California Screamin'. Great ride, but the name is just lame to me, not clever at all. I would rather it be called Giant Dipper or something that fits it's seaside amusement park theme.
  16. I just like when Robb puts people in their place. It's fun. Call it "The New Wooden Coaster at California's Great America" for all I care... as long as it's fun, I'm happy.
  17. I'm going to feel free to tell you you're right. Maybe if the ride was running... but at that point it wasn't. The support has been modified to fit and everything is all rainbows and sunshine now. It is NOT dangerous to finish construction and fix it later as this not a load bearing support but more of a secondary reinforcement, which is what EastCoastn07 said.
  18. ^ I know, but would SFMM really invest to get redesigned lap bars on old trains that are probably nearing the end of they operating life? I was saying basically exactly what you just said. State needs to approve it, and they aren't likely to approve less restraints, because it brings the question of why were more necessary in the first place?
  19. Ah... Makes sense. I hadn't been through there since it was brand new as Splat City, so no wonder I don't remember it. I miss the Smurfs, haha.
  20. What is that elephant even from? I grew up going to CGA but don't ever remember that thing. Stampede is a cool name but I have a feeling they would orient that more towards a horse stampede or something "western" rather than elephant related, but who knows.
  21. Regarding the OTSRs on Revolution. There is no law saying they have to have them, but in order to modify restraints you still have to get state approval. Typically the state will not allow you to remove restraints, only add them. If they got new trains with only lap bars, that would be different. And before anyone argues the logic that it ran for years with lap bars just fine, I'm aware. The state doesn't listen to stuff like that, these are the guys that make DCA run Screamin' with it's retractable handrails up all day because they think it's safer.
  22. I'd still call or something ahead of time. Last time I was at the park we witnessed the ride ops let a girl with a leg cast up the elevator on Medusa, tell her it's okay to ride, let her and all her friends sit down in the front, then tell them 30 seconds later she couldn't ride because of her cast. It wouldn't hurt to double check. It was unclear to me if this was because the cast was a little bulky, or because of a new policy change prohibiting any casts. Yeah, SFDK has very strict rules on casts now. If I remember correctly, there are absolutely no hard plaster casts, no molter where they are or how big they are. If it's just a brace, I'm sure you could get away with it, but I would definitely call first.
  23. Yeah, This thing looks insane. I really hope it lives up to our hopes. I think I'm most excited for the cliffhanger drop, in person it looks absolutely crazy.
