So later in July I'm headed to the Dells for my first ever visit which also happens to be my friend's bachelor party. 8 of us guys will be in town visiting Timber Falls, Mt. O, and Noah's Ark (at the least) and we're looking to have a good celebratory meal/drinks one of the nights after we get done in the parks. I know the Dells is an amalgamation of small tourist attractions and resorts so I really have no clue where to get some good, non-chain-restaurant, mid-high range grub and cocktails. Does such a place even exist in the Dells? Any other general Dells pro-tips would be appreciated.

I think you guys are viewing it incorrectly. The train's forces are applied into the track, not off to the side... what you're seeing are the trains lined up in the station after a 45 degree turn to the right on the transfer track at the bottom left. Notice the train in the loop w/ seats oriented w/ riders on their back? It's just like an Intamin 1st gen. I LOVE this concept and could actually see it working!

Now that Intamin makes 10-looper models and other looping launched models w/ just their overhead lapbar restraint it makes me curious how much the conversion to those would cost on these older rides. These soft strap replacements are a nice improvement but seem unnecessary after seeing the videos of their newer rides. -

Yea, the vests aren't great. That "oh damn!" moment when the holding brake unlocks and you float between the restraint and the seat (the whole point of a dive coaster) doesn't exist on Valravn. Still a cool ride but nowhere near the feeling you get on Griffon or Sheikra. Also the holding brake doesn't really "hold" but instead just slows down the train for about 2 seconds. -

Very cool ride! I'd love to see these pop up at more parks. I'd love to know just how wet this gets you. The track flooding system is impressive engineering though. -

Wait... why were Oblivion's trains not capable of reaching vertical? I know the drop there is 87 degrees but I'm not following the logic that the trains aren't capable of going that extra 3 degrees. -

Speaking of capacity, I have a question re: the new style of trains shown here. Is the 10-wide dive coaster train at BGW the same effective width as the 8-wide train at CP? If so, the decision to use the vest restraints ended up costing capacity 6 riders per train... which is a little surprising to me at a park like CP. -

I have to agree that the vest restraint takes away any feeling of plummeting or falling that is present on Sheikra and Griffon... meh. Great ride, annoyingly restrictive restraint. -
Geez some of you people are so harsh for no reason... the idea to send out a push notification is something that would take about 30 minutes to code in the app and save a lot of people trouble. I think the reminder would be a nice feature and I don't consider myself "too stupid" to visit a theme park.

What kind of program do the Top Scans at other CF parks run on? I only know of the one at CW but haven't ever been there. I've heard that they can range from mild to holy-***-crazy-pants intensity. -
This is just a wild guess but maybe the park uses that extra X2 revenue directly for it's maintenance. We all know that ride has a massive budget all its own... if the park can get people to pay specifically to ride X2 a certain amount of times per day it could help a lot w/ its upkeep. I'll admit that I paid up when I went just to increase my chances that I'd get on it during my visit.

Carowinds Discussion Thread

Is it confirmed that all of these are going to be installed next year? Or is it more likely that it will take a few years? Sorry... I used to be a Carowinds local but moved to Chicago and might have missed the latest updates. I'll never be able to see a Music Express again without comparing it to the insane model that runs at Electric Daisy Carnival (a 3 night rave in Las Vegas Motor Speedway) each year. Are there any other carnivals in the US that allow you to ride while double-fisting beers? I doubt it... but that's probably fodder for another thread. -
Maybe B&M's obsession with restricting any possible ejector air across all of their models has something to do w/ the seat / labpar design? The clamshell restraint is amazingly open and comfortable along w/ not requiring a seatbelt (in all parks). Maybe B&M has a legitimate engineering reason why they don't want to let their airtime machines really launch people like Intamin seems to? I'll admit that I would find El Toro's infamous plummet over RT (RIP) way more terrifying w/ a loose B&M clamshell... or even the back row on that first Toro hill. What about Skyrush w/ a clamshell? Or the New Texas Giant? I doubt many people would feel so comfortable w/ the B&M restraint setup there... Maybe they simply decided that they'd opt for the super comfortable "Mercedes Benz" of restraints w/ the caveat that they weren't designed to ever handle intense negative g's. That's fair enough and a legitimate design standard. At no point have I ever really truly "appreciated" my restraint on a B&M compared to several RMC's and Intamins where I've had those "holy ****" moments.

^ That seems really hard for me to believe that parks are going into the control systems of modern multi-million dollar coasters and making changes themselves. So far out of all of the operating B&M hypers they all opened w/ the same amount of trimming that they use today. None of them pass a trim without it hitting, none of them hit an MCBR without slowing, and none of them operate w/ the 100% "hard" wheels on a daily basis. I don't see why anyone believes that B&M suddenly just had a change of mind after 17 years of making hyper coasters where they decided to suddenly let them run free.
-
I didn't say they were lying, but we have zero evidence to believe that B&M would let a hyper run balls out like this. It hasn't ever happened, why would this be the first time? Most of the general public will never realize that what they experience in person will not match that video but still... kinda odd to release it this way.
-
I'm shocked that people on here are actually thinking that they'll ever get a ride anywhere near this fast on Mako when it opens... it's a bit disingenuous for the park to even release the video of the ride w/ no trims, no MCBR, and the harder 'test' wheels that B&M uses. I see some comments like "but Fury never slowed down!" but people are forgetting that Fury isn't a "hyper" model and doesn't have an MCBR. Either B&M finally decided that negative g's are acceptable OR, more likely, they haven't tuned this to where they want it to be.
-
Most B&M's also test with harder wheels first that get swapped out with softer (slower) ones as the testing continues so I wouldn't expect even the pre-trim portion of the ride to run that fast in the end. Every other B&M hyper is massively trimmed so I wouldn't expect the final ride to look anything like this.
