Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

This has been explained time and time again. Is there really a need for another explenation of this topic? People are going to believe what they want, they will realize they were wrong come announcement time. Oops. Never saw the first poster thing. Now I feel like an idiot. But no need to be dicks guys, seriously. It was a mistake. -

I don't know guys, something about this picture makes me think that maybe it was changed. The graphic design of this countdown teaser thing makes me think of like medieval or vikings or something... it looks completely different from designs of the teasers before it... But it might just be me. I don't know. Now I'm rambling. -

I hope that they change it the name. Not because its association with death (because I think that's a cool thing) but because I still think it's stupid. -

I actually know someone who was on the train that struck the guest. What she said was basically that they were in the station and saw a man hop the fence to get into the area. So the place he was hit mustve been in sight of the station. Basically during the ride they heard a bump and thought nothing of it, until when they were stopped on the brake run for 15 minutes. Apparently people on the train at first thought someone fell out and they could see a man lying in the grass all bloody. This is just how she describes it. And eventually someone realized that no one fell out and that the bump must've been hitting the guest. When the train arrived in the station the ride had already been shut and cleared because of the apparently obvious viewpoint of the incident. That's the explanation I got from her, and it seems to closely match the news descriptions. -

A worthwhile and constructive post. Dick. If you're comparing Michigan to Ohio, Michigan wins every time. I live about a half hour out of Detroit and yes, Cedar Point is closer to me than MIA (2 hours compared to 3 1/2) but just because the amusement park isnt as great doesn't mean the entire state is. Like Ohio has Cedar Point and Kings Island but really that's it. Michigan has two peninsulas filled with natural beauty, in addition to the obvious fact that we're surrounded by the great lakes. Ohio may have Lake Erie (Lake EWie, as I call it) but everything else overpowers two amusement parks. Enjoy your corn, Ohio. In all seriousness though I'm not hating on Ohio because cedar point is my life, however insulting the whole state because of a relatively average amusement park is a low blow. It's not michigan's fault MIA is neglected! -
I was at the park today, and I had a lot of fun but operations were a disaster. Seriously. Corkscrew had one op. ONE!? she had to manually lock, check, and unlock the train by herself, car by car. Props to her though, I'm sure it wasn't her fault they were understaffed. What should've been walkons turned into at least a 15min wait. The thunderhawk crew was great though, very quick. But pretty much everything else was soo slow. Enough about my day, here is what I think about 2016 speculation. First of all, I think the waterpark does not in any way need any expansion whatsoever. There was enough slides to make an entire day out of using it, instead of what most people do and do a half day at both sides of the park. Speaking of which, TO ANYONE WHO HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MICHIGAN'S ADVENTURE EXPANSION PLANNING AND WHATNOT: CONNECT THAT PATH BEHIND WOLVERINE WILDCAT. PLEASE. Seriously, it was such a pain to walk all the way around and it is just about as bad as waiting for that godforsaken train. Literally rip that stupid thing out and connect that path. Put a coaster and a couple of flats in its place. I don't care how they do it. But just do it. The path is practically built already; they can pour blacktop for all I care (Yes I know that concrete is a must but still). The train is pointless. On the odd chance (lol chance) that you happen to catch the train when it is actually at the station, it still takes just about as long to walk around the park to the other side. It was poor planning on their part when they designed the park this way. Tear out the train and use the land. It's obviously usable, and the train is pretty much pointless. And the operator of the train probably couldn't care less; it was noon and he looked to be ready to go home. I think the park needs to work on their friendliness; only a couple of times I noticed ops being friendly. Although I am used to Disney-quality relations, but still. It isn't that hard to smile. The host at Grand Rapids and the hostess at Wolverine Wildcat were awesome, and the operator later in the day at Shivering Timbers was cool. Okay wow I got sidetracked sorry. Back to 2016. I know it is out of the question, but a GT-X would be PERFECT for MiAdv. Like they need a big steel coaster. Thunderhawk is fun and all, but they need something else. Hell, I'd take a Vekoma boomerang. But my ultimate goal would be that GT-X. I have not personally been on Lightning Run, but just from POVs I can tell it's superb. And it isn't too big whereas youngish kids couldn't ride it, but it also isn't too intense for older riders. Which is really what MiAdv is targeted toward right now, parents bringing their children. It would perfectly fit the demographics of the park and be a real attention-grabber. The main attraction at the park is 125 feet tall. Which is tiny. Shivering Timbers is amazing, don't get me wrong, but they can do better. Come on MiAdv, Valleyfair at least gets Wild Thing, can't you get something like that? It doesn't need to be a hyper coaster by any means. Literally any coaster. Anything. We're all begging. Not a disko. Please. And if it isn't a coaster, make it a big flat ride. Like a discus or Screamin' Swing. NOT a water ride. And don't try to theme anything either. It isn't the park to spend any extra money on themeing. Grand Rapids was an attempt, but it literally was like halfway done. The beginning of the ride is themed, then the middle is just concrete walls and trees, and then the end has one water fall. A flat ride and a coaster. Perfect. Beyond perfect. That's the ideal situation. Tear the train out, and develop the area beyond Wolverine Wildcat. It's the 60th anniversary. Do something. Shivering Timbers came for the 30th year in operation and look what a success that has been. It is the main reason I still go to the park. I live in Michigan and Cedar Point is still closer so I don't have much of a reason to go more than once a year, if that. To Michigan's Adventure: I like you, but I don't love you. You have just enough to keep you on my mind, but not enough to keep me interested for much longer. Make me WANT to come back. You have to do something every so often to keep the public interested. So interest me. (Sorry for the hella long post I just wanted to put my piece in now I will go away)

Big Surprises on Coasters
maverick_cp replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My first time on Maverick at CP, the launch tunnel surprises me quite a bit. I remember not knowing what was going on, because by the time I realized we were in a tunnel we were already launching first times on coasters are never paralleled. -

I agree with the darker scheme, but being realistic this looks as if it will be the colors that Valravn will be (still hate the name). This track and the lighter reddish track (does anyone know what this could be?) Seem to be the only two types of track on the lot, and the red track certainly is not for a Dive Machine. Waaaaay too small. Looks like a wing rider or hyper or something smaller like that. Or invert. I don't know I barely looked at it Just going by what color schemes I like to put on darker themed coasters in RCT3, for something such as this I would use a medium purple color for the spine with dark blue rails and black ties and supports. And black trains with neon green accents and dark purple restraints. I think that would look good on a dive coaster. However, given cedar point's location on a peninsula, I don't see them going for a coaster that dark. The whole park has a bright atmosphere and putting a huge ride that Valravn will be and having that be the only darker colored ride seems like something that CP would be against. The orange/brown or whatever it is seems to be okay right now. I'm just glad it isn't thunderbird orange. That would just be painful. -

I'm curious to see the announcement. We know everything about it. Or CP will throw a curveball and have it be something completely different and all our speculation has gone to waste, but I don't think that's very likely. -

We also have colors for Valravn now. Dark orange/brownish with gray supports. Pics here: http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_0.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_1.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_2.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_3.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_4.htm http://www.screamscape.com/html/bmtrack_5.htm It has to be Dive Coaster track. Look at it compared to the truck. It's huge. As for the lighter reddish stuff, I don't know. -

I have given up hope that it is anything else but a dive machine. It will be good whatever it is. I really hope they don't use valravn or whatever. Personally I think that is a terrible name. No one knows what Rougarou is unless they're one of us or they googled it. Which I really think is a pain. Rougarou I only like because it is catchy and fun to say but valravn just sounds bad. It is going to be so mispronounced I can already feel it. While I know that is probably what the name is going to be, I really cant stand it. -

Did this happen during a test run, or was there occupants on the train that had to be evacuated? There we're people on it. I saw an attendant walk up and talk to the people. -

I've only been on Sheikra, and when I did it was fun. I thought the front row was really awesome, especially the holding brake. It was fun, but I still preferred Montu and Kumba over it. Which makes me hope it isn't a Dive Coaster. Tony Clark did say that it was one of many options that we're available, but I'm just saying that if it is a Dive Coaster, I will be perfectly fine with it. They're fun rides without a doubt, but there are many other things that I (as well as many of you) would prefer. Dive Coasters just seem a bit gimmicky to me. The holding brake-immelmann-water splashdown can only be beaten to death so many times. I'm sure that CP will put their own spin on it if it happens, but I'm just saying I would prefer something else. The GP will eat it up though. Whatever CP does, I know it will be great. I was very satisfied with Gatekeeper even though winged coasters existed in the US prior to it opening, but I think it was a great addition and that if CP adds its own touch to it they could totally reinvent the Dive Coaster experience. I just wish it were longer, because Cedar Point already has plenty of short rides. Like Dragster, Wicked Twister, Corkscrew, and Blue Streak are all one and done type rides, because the length of the ride versus how long youll wait (exception Blue Streak) is not worth it to re ride. If CP gets another quick coaster like the other dive machines, it wont be as big of a hit I think. I would much rather prefer an RMC mean streak, but with all this land clearing and whatnot I don't see that happening for at least three years. I would also take a flying coaster, because when I went on Manta I had an amazing time, one of my favorite B&Ms. Whatever CP does it will be great, but if it were up to me I would pick something else. -
I think the TCM upgrades made the ride worse. I didnt notice any of the queue line upgrades at all, but I did notice the narration. The guy narrating's voice was kind of annoying, and switching back and forth from the CM on the ride vehicle made it sound disjointed and awkward. I think they should've left it as it was.

Completely unrelated but I believe Iron Dragon may have snapped a lift chain today. I walked by the ride in the early am and saw a full train stopped a little ways up the first lift and an Op walked up and talked to the guests. I assumed it was because someone had a selfie stick or something but when I came back later the (now empty) train was in the same place with the chain bunched up at the bottom of the lift disconnected. So yeah as I imagine CP is probably prepared for this even but as arrow isn't alive anymore wouldn't a new lift chain be hard to come by, especially for a suspended coaster? I took a few pics on my phone but i dont know how to upload them. -

Pipe Scream isn't a roller coaster by any means if you're considering simply gravity to be the sole cause, but I do consider it one because while it is a powered coaster, it has wheels and a track and even if it isn't a purely gravity-powered coaster it's still called a coaster. Honestly Pipe Scream is just as fun as some pure roller coasters that I've been on. Plus it's called a Disk-o COASTER, emphasis on the coaster part. It's in the name, so according to the manufacturer and the park it is a roller coaster, which is good enough for me. It's just a powered shuttle roller coaster. -

I've postponed my trip before because it said it was going to storm, but later checking the webcams it was 75 and sunny all day. I've also gone expecting nice weather and having storms/cloudy. It's really in the hands of mother nature. Most of the time the forecast will change as you get closer and closer to the day you go, so just periodically check. -

Can someone tell me if there is something going on at CP that would make June 23 a bad day to go? I'm deciding whether or not to get Fast Lane. Seeing that it's a Tuesday I'm leaning towards against it, because $85 is a lot if there are no lines anywhere. Luckily I have a $10 ticket that makes me kind of want to get it, but even with that cheap of a price for ticketing I still am not sure if Fast Lane is worth it on a Tuesday in June.
