The ride is definitely better than Knott's Voyage, and on par with DCA's Toy Story ride. But this type of ride makes more sense for a younger crowd, which works at a Disney park, but seems kind of random at a park like Magic Mountain. I'm not saying people won't ride it once they're at the park, but to think this is going to attract a crowd over 15 years old *to come out and actually visit the park for it* is stretching it a bit.

Pretty much my feelings. From a park "enthusiast" who "gets" what the park is trying to do here: with JL "this is great for the park, this is what the park needs," and this makes sense. But to the people like you and me who aren't video game people, and go to Magic Mountain to get on big scary rides, and see through all the "smoke and mirrors" the park is trying to pull here, while seriously neglecting the ENTIRE area surrounding it...? YAY MORE BRICKS AND CONCRETE WITH NO SHADE AND NO TREES! I say "feh." Even the girl I'm dating is a video game nerd, and wasn't impressed, and it doesn't take much for her! I will go on this ride to get out of the sun if it is a walk on, but I'd never wait for it. It might be popular as a new ride but I see the attraction wearing off after some of the intricate things don't work well or the props don't move like they're supposed to. This is all the kind of stuff Magic Mountain has always seemed to have a hard time maintaining. For some reason I don't think the reputation stops here. SO SO THIS! I have been to the park 2 or 3 times since Revolution was re-introduced, and every frickin' time it had those stupid goggles with hour+ long DREADFUL wait times, and no single rider line, and there's just no way in hell I'm dealing with that. Leave it to Six Flags, they know how to kill a good thing!

Throwback Thursday-Knott's Edition
DoubleDown replied to justcreate89's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It looks like we're looking at pictures of pictures. Like, if I old had maps or old photos, and couldn't necessarily scan them, then I'd just snap photos of what I have. I know it's not the most "romantic" way to go about it, but I definitely do appreciate the fact that he has put the effort forth to share them. I especially love that Supreme Scream photo of the Knott's maps front page. Man, takes me back, I think I have that map! All these photos provided hit me straight in the heart. I love them. They remind me of old Knott's. I am so thankfull all of these images have been shared and I would applaud anyone who has similar images to share them just because of the memories. I will never knock people sharing photos that might not be the "best quality" just because I am so happy to see them. -
First of all, I would like to congratulate this Six Flags Magic Mountain thread for (almost) getting to it's 5000th page. Remarkable. That's 50,000 posts! Second, thank you MagicMountainMan for responding to my complaints. The fact that this park gives 0 craps about keeping vegetation in the park astounds me. With the relative costs, installing trees to grow for YEARS and the minimal costs associated with up-keeping them, there is no excuse. I used to work for the park and lo and behold, there are literally people there at 4am WATER POWER WASHING the mainways to clean them. Oh! But watering plants is not cost efficient! Get outta here! Third, this is why I don't buy this BS that it's expensive to put trees in. It's stupid. I used to love Magic Mountain and it's terrain. The company repeatedly destroys the park with half-assed installations, and I am sick of it. $20 for parking, but it's too expensive to maintain shrubbery. Ridiculous. Making an area beautiful and awesome is not that expensive when considering they spend millions on the rides they install. The "updates" they have added to the area are laughable. Like someone said earlier in the thread, it looks like someones backyard where they spend less than 50 grand to have a pool installed. The cheapness of the parks installations continues to astound me.

Yippee. So since opening is now a week away, I guess we can pretty much predict everything that is dirt in this photo will pretty much be hot, unthemed, last minute poured, absurd to have in Santa Clarita during the summer when temps hit 100 degrees+, concrete. Are we supposed to applaud this kind of effort? I would love to know who is paid to plan projects for Six Flags because I would love that job. "Yeah so, we're just gonna take this ride we've done at numerous other parks, make it a bit longer, a bit better, and plop it riiiight *closes eyes and points with finger* THERE! And the rest of the surrounding area? Yeah we'll just pour a buncha concrete around it. Yeah, there we go!" I mean COME ON! I'm not even a designer, but does anyone see the absolute potential with this HUGE plot of land that could make it spectacular, except Six Flags again is going to budget cut and cheapen the entire frickin' area with laid concrete and illogical black permanent fencing? I'm sorry for the rant but it's just so poorly thought out and appears so dumb to me.

Photo TR's: JordyC's Theme Park Adventures
DoubleDown replied to JordyC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
WOW what a great trip report! I have been to this park with my brother and we absolutely fell in LOVE with it! Your photos are great and kind of really give a good "feel" of how the park actually is. Anyone notice how the "sea of concrete" is lacking at this park? I wish some of the chains out here in America would take notice! Instead of concrete, plant some FU**ING trees! Make a small pond! People do not go to theme parks JUST for coasters, and this park is a great testament to that. Just a question, when I went there about 5 years ago, they had this awesome policy with their cups. You buy a drink with a cup, but you don't dispose it, if you bring it back you get some actual money back, and they reuse it. I just thought that was a fantastic idea to avoid trash, to avoid litter, and over-using. Do they still do that? -
Holey smokes this picture really illustrates how much room that area has opened up for a new attraction! Honestly, it looks like from those photos that pretty much ANYTHING could be installed in this spot. Ah, also I remember that break room... I think it was called the Waterfront break room? Something like that? Drank many a gallons of raspberry iced tea up in that air conditioned room. Also smoked a lot of cigarettes out on the patio, back when it had a patio I believe...

lol I love it! Revo Virtual Reality is garbage! That being said, why the hell can't the park spend money in providing shade with trees or legitimate permanent overhangs to make sure guests don't have to sit in that grueling sun? They even do it to their own employees. It makes no sense to me. I get it when it's 75 degrees, but once temps go over that and all you're doing is forcing guests to stand in lines with the sun bearing down on them? Holy crap there's no way I'd want any part in that. It doesn't cost that much to provide shade, but all they ever wanna do is lay down hot as hell concrete!

LOL one of the most bankrupt cities in the country with the most tax money available --Los Angeles-- has now adopted the exact same excuses Magic Mountain uses for the delays of its projects! Absolutely fantastic, and completely ludicrous. Isn't it crazy that Disney continues to meet, exceed, and more often BEAT, projected opening dates in all sorts of conditions, ALL OVER THE WORLD, while these Six Flags and Los Angeles fools fall behind year after year on their projects, overspend budgets, and find bologna excuses for their delays? I wouldn't blame the park for the delay if this is the first time in a decade that this has happened. However delays almost always happen when they open a new attraction, and the excuses they come up with are bologna. I'm SURE the park would LOVE to have the ride opened today, but their continuous poor planning, absurd management, and budget cutting approaches are what lead to these kinds of situations. I fully blame the park, it's terrible budget management, and ride installation crew for the delay of the ride. I apologize for my pessimism, but please understand, I have been following this park religiously for 2 Decades now, since the announcement, installation, and opening of Superman: The Escape, and none of it is new to this park. They should have permit expectations, weather inclinations, planning projections, and opening dates easily accurate by now. Freaking Cedar Point deals with SNOW and inclement weather every offseason. SFMM is my home park, and I love it and always want it to do good, but from my perspective, any of their excuses is pure incompetence.

I don't think this will happen as X2 is a ride with defunct/limited parts and pieces so they have no choice but to tear apart the other train where as with RMC they can just buy whatever parts they need if they run out. But this is Magic Mountain we're talking about so I wouldn't put it past them. Probably a year or two after they installed them. I never saw anyone using them.

Right with you there Robb. Universal has beaten the dead horse with simulators. If you're going to do Mario Kart (which you'd have to be stupid not to do) please for the love of gawd Universal do it right and make it an actual ride. It's unfortunate this is something I'll probably never get to being it's in Japan, but an actual Mario Kart ride with racing (similar but more intense than Radiator Springs Racers) would be off the charts awesome. I'm not even a Nintendo guy but I've always endured Mario and Mario Kart HAS to be the most universally loved multi-player video game out there. I know people love Mario Party and all the other ones but when it comes to EVERYONE, I think Mario Kart is a game where ANYONE can pick it up quickly and have fun.

After seeing your side profile of RMC Streak on the first drop in your second update, this ride is no doubt going to have a 90 degree first drop. In order to accommodate that and based on the lift hill angle I really think we're going to see a 250 foot drop, followed by some pretty quickly circuited elements. Awesome photos and thanks so much for sharing! Coastermania seems to be the *THE ULTIMATE* Cedar Point event to attend if you want legitimate ERT. -
The Cal-OSHA report still isn't public from the last breakdown and if Knott's can't make any required corrections or re-open it; I see them demolishing it over leaving the tower SBNO. How do they get the cabin down sooner if the ride breaks down again? Windseeker had to go after the second extended breakdown so Sky Cabin could too. It is a nice ride to take pictures from if the plexiglass wasn't all scratched up by the delinquents. Ugh. Cedar Fair has dicked with the tower so much honestly it's not even the same freakin' thing anymore. I think the Knott's family removed the Parachutes after someone committed suicide either at Knott's or another park with a similar attraction, then the K was removed for no reason, now they aren't even interested in keeping the Sky Cabin open (which I don't understand it's always nice to have an observation tower especially one in the middle of a city like Orange County where you can see the beach and the surrounding mountains). I mean if Six Flags can refurb Superman to get it running consistently are you telling me Cedar Fair can't drop some money into the Sky Cabin to get it running well? I can't for the life of me remember who made the sky cabin but if I'm correct it's a company that's still around, why do I feel like it's Intamin? It may be Intamin. I believe there's some kind of plaque or badge on the cabin indoors which says the manufacturer and year it was built. Totally a mistake on my part, sorry about that! I don't know how I missed that!

The photos have been amazing. Please keep them coming. I won't be there this year but am planning on being there in 2018! This RMC creation has to be one of the biggest anticipated coasters I've been waiting to ride in a LONG time. And the rides not even announced or done yet. Not true. You can count me in as a former ride operator who would be more than happy to work that shift. Working at theme parks whether on the mechanic side, or the ride operator side, have been some of the best most fun, most "not feel like I'm actually working and getting paid" jobs that I've ever had. At Knott's on Grad Nights I'd get to the park at 8 am and sometimes not leave till 2 am. Not a lot of people were willing to do it but I was at a theme park dispatching rides, and seeing guests reactions and making it fun for them was priceless. -
Dude the station platform which once had an opening where the track for Boomerang ran through now has new concrete covering that opening. It appears as if the park is going to reuse the station platform, maybe not for a station platform, but maybe for the queue. It's a little bit confusing because in that image the before pic is on the bottom and the after picture is on the top.

So I have now become semi-obsessed with the Knott's Webcam in the Boardwalk and it's almost 4 AM and there is some work being done! I have seen 5 guys working the entire night. There were 2 construction trucks, one excavator and one backhoe. Also some metal cutting I believe as there were sparks flying earlier, and also they have finally removed the control panel booth! Man I always wanted to sit in that control booth, it seemed so cool to be like 2 feet away from a coaster flying by at 50 mph with nothing between you and the train! Also they have a dude that cleans the former Perilous Plunge pool by hand! At 4 am?!?! Who'da thunk it?

LOL $30 for a flippin cup? WTF?!?! This is Six Flags 2017 we all saw coming. Talk about a complete cash grab, even if you go 10 times a year and get 10 refills, that's 30 cents a refill for you, but it still only costs them a nickel to fill up that cup! Although, I do prefer the 1 time cup buy as opposed to the disgusting unlimited disposable cup idea that I believe has been implemented by Cedar Fair. At least this doesn't just cause an outrageous amount of trash. LOL dumb ass kids will never learn. They'll be hopping fences and getting hit and killed by coasters as long as we live.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I had made it past the entrance and the security card was yelling at me "SIR. STOP. WHAT IS IN YOUR POCKET?" I assumed he was talking about my not secured zipper pocket. Because I'm not use to zipper pockets being an issue. So I said "Nothing." He then had me stand to the side, and had another security officer come over, who gave me a weird patdown, and found the items in my pocket. They asked me what it was, I said my phone and car key. They removed them from my pocket, and one of them escorted me to the lock.er where he waited till I purchased a lock.er, and put my items in the lock.er, and then I was allowed to return to the line. Seriously one of the most annoying things I've ever dealt with at a park. On a side note... The patdown made me feel like a criminal!!! Good things wasn't a hottie, or things could have gotten really awkward really fast. It's a good thing Six Flags security is a total joke and that they'd never be able to uphold this kind of security consistently. Sounds like you just found yourself a very "power trippy" security guard, and I've run into those types. These are the guys who never got laid or had friends in high school, and now they want to take it out on anyone that resembles someone from those times. This may not be popular, but IMO the best thing to do is take away their power by refusal, passive aggressiveness. So you know what I would have done in this situation? As soon as they pulled me to the side and even started to pat me down I would have said "You know what? Nevermind, I changed my mind I'm not going to ride" and walked away. Can't pat me down then. Then I'd come back in an hour to ride and they probably wouldn't be there and you could get in line without the hassle. Same thing I do when they say I can't "wait" for a certain row to ride a coaster. Oh, really? This ride has a 15 minute wait and I can't just "stand" here as long as I want? Refusing to get on the ride? You're going to MAKE ME get on the coaster? Really? I don't think so. Oddly enough this seems to be a Six Flags thing while Cedar Fair, Busch and Disney has never had an issue with me asking politely to sit where I want. Also, lock3rs should absolutely be free for 1 hour and located near the ride station. After 1 hour start charging to get your stuff out. That way the parks don't have to pay some dumb ass rent a cop and free incentivizes people to get loose articles out of their pockets so it's win-win for everyone. -
BTW I checked out the live video cams on Knott's website: What a sight for sore eyes! I'm out of state now and just watching the park puts me in a better mood! But that Boardwalk... YEESH! Needs a freakin' facelift. Only what, 6 feet between the fence and the street on Western? Kinda ghetto, y'know? "Tea" Yah, I call my rum and coke tea, too lol. The story of America over the past 3 decades. One person being a complete dumbass ruins niceities of life for everyone who is following the rules. Instead of him being held responsible for his own stupid actions, instead of being told to "eff off". he is able to file a lawsuit against the park and receive monetary compensation for his incompetence! Such an ass backward society we live in. I don't know who "signed off" on how this was supposed to go, but I sure as hell didn't.

Thanks for the advice 15 year old Henry M. What would we possibly do without your input? Nobody called anyone childish. I'm just saying, there are people who are 21+, 31+, 41+ years old this day and age in 2017, that act like children when their feelings are hurt, and there's no reason for it, and it shouldn't be condoned as acceptable behavior. The same way someone who is 5 minutes late on a TPR tour shouldn't be apologized to for missing his ride when 50+ other people were on time. -

You're the type of person nobody wants to listen to anymore. Your reasoning is exaggerated, and your practicality is nowhere to be found. Go crazy with the uproar but really nobody cares. Making a mountain out of a molehill. It's really not that big of a deal. I'm an adult. I understand the gay stuff (trust me). If I was offended, by pretty much anything, I wouldn't leave. Understanding people are assholes and say asshole stuff and being big enough to brush it off is PART of being an adult. Take the freakin' upper hand for once and let people know you don't give a shit about what they say because you can do whatever you want instead of causing an uproar. People may be a certain age, but acting a certain way can most certainly make you seem like a child. I'm sure Robb has plenty of experience in that. -
Dude! You got one of those off days of luck where almost all the rides are open and there are virtually no lines. Good for you! That is like a rarity in and of its own, and I haven't had one of those in a while. Also, Magic Mountain didn't pick yellow because of some stupid indiscreet undercover bologna, they painted their Hurricane Harbor ride the same color and probably said screw it, instead of picking black which might cost us more, we'll just add Riddler to the job -- so they did. I heard they're moving the entrance? I hope they don't get rid of this glorious entry sign! OMG this thing is freaking awesome!
-
I hope this is a typo, but if that is the truth, that is garbage. At this point, maybe they should rip out Coast Rider and use its land for the new coaster as well! All in favor, say I. EDIT: After reading the website more, it appears that riders above 44" can still ride with a supervising companion. The 54" applied to alone riders. That's still insane. After what has been replaced by Perilous Plunge; basically 3 carnival rides that are unamusing to anyone over 10 years old, I have absolutely no issue if they relocate the two flats and move Coast Rider to some other park, and install something awesome in replacement of Boomerang. My brother and I rode all 3 just out of curiosity on our last trip, and the best ride we had was on the Scrambler flat. Coast Rider was a joke with or without the stupid ankle restraints. And we're all for just enjoying what's there but give me a break. The Boardwalk became laughable once Perilous has left. Unless if by "boardwalk" you mean "endless concrete and no palm trees or any trees or beach atmosphere anywhere." Destroy it all and make it new. Although, that would probably just bring more concrete (UGH). Do something so you can't hear the freakin' cars honkin' their horns on Western and La Palma. IMO that corner, besides Xcelerator, and now after removing Boomerang, has become a complete joke as far as a "Theme Park" is concerned. It's more like a solidified semi-permanent Carnival. Cedar Point can get away with it because they're on a peninsula, but they have a gold mine in this park and they need to start treating it that way. All I've seen is them do since Silver Bullet is cheap out on worthless attractions that mean nothing. I'm sick of it. I'm not going back to this park unless they install something that makes it worth my admission. Until then, enjoy the moms dropping off their kids for the park to babysit their teenies.
