California trip - Help needed!
SimiGeek replied to ENri's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For SF if you are planning on getting gold passes you mite as well get the Dimond Elite. It is $20 a month (aprox) and gives you 50% off food and free upgrade to gold on flash passes (Saves you $30 a day). Also it comes with swim with the dolphins in SF Discovery. Its worth it particularly if you never have done it. I would use this particularly if you are going in late june. Early may on a school week you should be fine. Skip amusement parks on Saturday and go to the beach or hollywood. -
I have the Diamond Elite Pass and went twice to pick it up and they didn't have them in. Said the cards where not in yet! Going next week, so hopefully, next they will have them and if not. I will be raising hell at SFMM! I got the diamond elite card Monday. My understanding is they were out of Platinumn. You get your exit pass at the flash pass center. There were alot of people going in the morning. My advice wait until afternoon when it gets busy to get your exit pass. Superman and X2 are exempt.

Green Lantern has been closed since September. Today Tidal Wave was closed (seasonal) as well as bumper cars (they are redoing it) scrambler (refurb it). Apocalypse was closed (no reason given) and they were visibly plugging the leaks on Jet Stream (also closed). Roaring rapids was open. Goliath was back open.

i just searched my emails and all the ones i see from black friday or cyber monday don't say anything about early entry. so it seems more than legit to not let regular gold passes or memberships in early. i have a gold membership. but since i don't really see anything important with the upgrade, i'll just keep mine the way it is until they make me change. they've bumped up my monthly a couple times to where i now pay $6.10 a month. but as long as it's around this price, i don't see the need to pay more for the extras right now. https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/newsroom/steps-for-swift-entry

To be fair to the park, I am sure it is buried in the fine print that some benefits are subject to change. Fair point. To which I'm not mad when they only open 5 min because they haven't gotten the safety clearance from security or when we didn't get an early preview of Justice League since it opened so late. But removing something outright that was promised in order to charge more doesn't sit right.

I was there and told Tuesday that I would no longer be able to use the gold pass entry as its now a gold plus membership entry. That is a new low for the park to remove functionality after I bought a pass which advertised early entry. I emailed a very strong worded letter to the park president & guest relations and yet to get a response.

I'll let others comment on saving money but I will say two days is probably more than sufficient for both parks. The drive from the Santa Clarita Valley to Buena Park can be brutal so if you decided to do that I'd stay in Buena Park for the days you go to Knotts (as opposed to trying to drive back and forth). It's roughly ~60 miles but can take hours depending on the time of day. Magic Mountain to Knotts is about an hour and 20 min without traffic. If you go in the morning it could be twice as long if not longer. Six Flags is usually about $35 online per day + processing and a season pass is like $85 online for a season pass with a free gold upgrade (Includes parking). Parking is currently $25 but you could easily get a hotel nearby and take a city trolly for a buck or two. To get that 85$ price you usually have to get 4 passes. They do have a daily dinning deal here: https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/store/one-day-dining-deal which is $35 for 2 meals + snack + daily souviner cup. I hihgly recommend this if your going to get a more expensive meal like tritip sandwhich and a cup. I would do the 12th & 13th at Six Flags Magic Mountain It is a great park as its Coaster Capital and if you want riders going both days would be better. + The park should close at like 6 pm since its off-season. Recover on the 14th (its Saturday all theme parks are busy) Spend a few hours going to Hollywood (if you never been) and maybe Venice Beach or Santa Monica. Or if you want a really nice day at the beach drive to Santa Barbara. Don't plan to stay there hotels are ridiculous. I would do the 15th (Sunday) & 16 at Knotts. There isn't as many coasters (only like 4) and much more shows which are people eaters and can be done even on a busy weekend day. At Knotts make sure to check the calendar as some shows don't run on the weekdays (hit that on Sunday). Make sure to have a chicken dinner at Knotts Restaurant. Particularly at lunch it is not that more expensive and will give you three times as much food as a meal in the park. You can even split a 3 piece meal with a friend.
