  1. I'm genuinely curious as to why all of you who want Rocky Mountain to refurbish racing coasters only want them to do one side. What's the point?!? I've thought the same thing. You think both sides are bad now! Wait until one goes untouched by RMC!!!!! Topper track one side with the original layout and Iron Horse one side with crazy elements. Or moreover, connect them together and make it more unique. Ooh, I really like that idea. Here's hoping we get that in 2016!
  2. I think this ride is only hated so much because of the high profile park that it's in. The coaster does suck, but there are a lot of wood coasters that suck a lot more than Mean Streak does. I'd much rather ride Mean Streak than something like Roar at SFA, Wildcat at Hershey, Gwazi or Ghostrider... and even those coasters aren't completely terrible (except for maybe Gwazi and Roar). I don't get the hate for Mean Streak. I had a feeling it'd ride rough because it was a wooden, but it wasn't as bad as some other older woodens I've rode in the last 5 years.
  3. I heard a SF Great America insider say back in March or April when they were still working on Goliath that when they were done, they'd turn their attention to American Eagle. (Don't quote me on that, though.) So maybe after the 2015 40th Anniversary season, we'll get it in 2016. But yeah, I agree. American Eagle has been riding rough in the last few years. I went on it once this summer, and I swear the red train bucked on the track on the lift hill. If I had my phone, I would've snapped some pics of how bad the lift is looking these days.
  4. A few things... --Do they even operate the railway train anymore? I went three times this summer and twice last summer, and I did not see the railway train operate once. --What's this I heard about possibly turning the Pictorium into a park museum of sorts? Has anyone else heard this rumor? --Does anyone know if California's Great America is doing something for THEIR 40th this year?
  5. September is when kids go back to school, and they'd lose revenue if they were open during the off-season. But they bring in more business on weekends in October during Fright Fest.
  6. I never once liked the SkyWhirl as a kid. Those cage-buckets swayed in the sky and creaked too much for my liking. Scared the daylights out of me. But if a new company could recreate it and make it...I dunno....not so sway-y or creak-y, I might like it. With all the announcements of other parks getting super loop rides, I was surprised SF Great America didn't get in on that. They could've "brought back" the Tidal Wave for the nostalgia kick. (But A--they just got Goliath, save money, and B--where would they put it? Not where it used to be, for sure.)
  7. Not sure about the vendor thing, but I don't see a new ride going in there. That's kind of a small-ish area to cram even a flat kiddie ride in.
  8. Please oh please oh please... If they're celebrating a new ride every week, I can see them finishing out 2015 with American Eagle and urging riders to "get in their last rides."
  9. I don't see that happening. The entrance remodel was made to make the experience of getting into the park as smooth as possible. (Even though that biometrics-thing for the season passholders didn't work out very well...)
  10. If RMC can make this happen with a dueling coaster, then I really hope for 2016 we get something similar for American Eagle at SF Great America. The preview for Twisted Colossus made me incredibly happy. This ride just looks awesome.
  11. I don't know about any of the other Batman-themed coasters, but kind of like Batman: The Ride at SF Great America?
  12. I read this and all I could think of was the song Batman wrote in The Lego Movie. (DARKNESS!! NO PARENTS!!)
  13. The announcement they made yesterday was basically to wait till August 28th for the big announcement. More trolling, really, heh.
  14. My fiancee and I broke down and bought the misting fans at SFGAm this year. Yeah, they were $12, but they were a decent investment. Problem is, if you're misting yourself down with water, make sure you reapply your SPF when the time comes to do so. Try to avoid wearing darker clothes if you can help it. Or long jeans. Dark clothes (especially black) tend to attract heat.
  15. Around April or May of this year while they were still working on Goliath, I remember hearing something from an insider at SFGAm that once they were done with Goliath, they'd be turning their attention to American Eagle. They didn't say anything about that rumored iron-horse treatment on one side, but considering RMC is only going to be working on MM and NE this season, that kind of rules out a (desperately needed) rehabbing of American Eagle. Besides, SFGAm would've made an announcement about American Eagle closing if this were the case. My speculation? Possibly an interactive dark ride, maybe where the Pictorium is. (Or where Ragin Cajun used to be...or if they wanted to gut out the Dark Knight Coaster...ugh...) Especially if we're playing into this "choose your path" thing the teaser videos have been doing. And these teasers are kind of annoying me. People really think the choices at the end of the video mean that SFGAm will be getting rid of one of those attractions, but you're supposed to be voting for what you want to hear the scoop about. This whole thing is a scavenger hunt, really. It doesn't mean they'll be getting rid of Buccaneer Battle or Aunt Martha's Boarding House or the Pictorium or whatever. If you try clicking on both links, they both just take you straight to SFGAm's Google+ page. The votes don't really matter. What matters are the hints they're dropping. And based off of the hints ("choose your path," mentioning a "signature ride," mentioning a "neighbor," and that Throwback Thursday video), I'd be inclined to say American Eagle would be getting that overhaul, but it probably won't happen this upcoming season. (More than likely for 2016 when the park celebrates its 40th anniversary.) I don't see them bringing back an old ride. It'd be cool if they could re-theme the Demon back into Turn of the Century, but I don't see them taking out the loops just to bring the airtime hills back. You might as well just take Demon out entirely and replace it with something brand spanking new, but they already said that isn't happening. So....hard to tell, really. I'd hate to get my hopes up and have their announcement be for some lame show (*cough*igNight*cough*).
  16. I'm going to make the argument FOR a FlashPass here. While I have never invested in one before, I think of the future when my fiancee and I get around to having kids. Okay, our kids aren't going to be big enough to go on rollercoasters for a while. If we take a visit to an amusement park with other family members, say we hand off our kids on Grandma or Grandpa or a friend we're with to ride a rollercoaster. We don't want them to be waiting around 2 hours so we can go on Raging Bull. Hey! We have a FlashPass so they don't have to worry about that! Seriously, I don't judge the people who want to pay the money for a FlashPass. That's your money that you want to spend, so it's not my business.
  17. I just flat-out refuse to ride American Eagle anymore. I hate having to make the hike up through the old queuing steps just for not even a ten-minute wait, and to go up the first track on either red or blue and feel it BUCK. And if we were allowed to take our phones on the ride and snap pictures of how bad it looks going up the first hill....oh good lord. It's rickety, and I'm getting jostled around even more terribly than I was on ShockWave when it was still there, and I'm squeezed in really tightly next to me fiancee where it's just uncomfortable. I almost wish American Eagle had gotten that rumored iron horse overhaul instead of SFGAm getting Goliath. Goliath is pretty awesome, but American Eagle has seen better days. It's depressing.
  18. Oh yeah, I agree. When you go to an amusement park, you want to take your whole family and make sure they all have a fun time. It's not all about the tween/teen/young adult demographic that everyone thinks is oh-so-important nowadays. That sort of thing really irks me.
  19. The one thing I find strange with SFGadv skyride lately is; my last like 10 visits the past month, they have only been using 1 side of the skyride, and the que in the middle of the day was full on most of the visits. At the beginning of the season when the park was empty, they were running both side of the skyride, go figure. Just you normal SF operations. CLUELESS I really wish SFGAm had kept their SkyRides. Not only did you get a nice view of the park from up there, but it saved a lot of legwork getting from one end of the park to another. But those SkyRides are expensive to maintain.
  20. I don't think Eagle Red closing early has anything to do with costs. More like that ride has track issues that seriously need to be taken care of.
  21. I think it's policy that only one small water bottle can be allowed, so that's why they don't give you crap about it.
  22. It almost looks like a negative shot of the photo, like everything's in reverse. Could THAT be a hint?
  23. Hi there, I'm pretty new to the forums. My name's Holly, and I'm from Northwest Indiana. The park I've been to the most is Six Flags Great America, but I've also made some trips to Indiana Beach and last summer I finally made a trip to Cedar Point. I cashier at a grocery store and really hate it, but it pays the bills, and I've been pretty desperate to find a new job. I'm getting married next year and good news: he's a rollercoaster nut, too. If he weren't, it probably wouldn't have worked out this well. I can't even remember if I've made an intro post or not, but I haven't posted here much and have already encountered a rude member on here. I hope not everyone on the forums are like that. Just because I'm new to the enthusiast world does not give you a free pass to treat me like a blithering idiot. Just thought I'd get that out of the way.
  24. Somebody fed you a line of Grade A crap!! V2 uses LIMSs anyway, not hydraulics. That's not how electricity works! One thing can't "suck power" away from everything else. Either it all works or it all blacks or browns out. If V2 really did effect Superman, they would BOTH go down. One can't just take electricity away from the other. Well, gee, thanks for yelling at me about it.
  25. This happened ages ago at Shipwreck Island at Panama City Beach. (Like I said, AGES ago.) My mom gave me some money to get a Lemon Ice treat-thing for my younger brother, so I had him with me and we were in line at the food kiosk. Some lady in front of us with her kid in tow asked to see one of them to look at the nutritional label and ingredients, so the CM lets hre do that. The lady scans it quickly and hands it back to the CM declaring, "Oh no, we can't get that, that's got too much sugar in it." Then she says to her kid, "Come on, we'll go get a Coke, they're much healthier."
