There's some mechanical reasons why the lift was slowed down and why a boost function was later installed. But the ride honestly doesn't run much faster with the boost then it does without it. A fully loaded train averages 44.32 feet per second into the brake run with or without a boost. (Im not making that number up haha the computer says 44.32 almost everytime.) The only difference I've ever notice is really just the first drop. But I think the train spends more time on the unstop wheels during the first drop with a boost which detracts from the extra kick into the first drop. Those unstop wheels do not like to spin freely! I've played with them before. On the opposite end of the spectrum, does the lift sometimes run slow? We were at the park about a month ago, and El Toro broke down roughly 30 minutes before close. It re-opened, and we were on the last 4 or 5 trains of the night, some of them were cresting the lift so slowly that you could hear the anti-rollbacks come out. That stereotypical coaster "clank clank" noise. Was there an issue on that specific night where the lift was slowing down too much? Or is that a common thing. That's pretty common. Sometimes the anti-rollbacks go off the entire lift and the whole park can hear. Fun fact, each Toro train has two rollback dogs.

You aren't able to change the speed of the lift. It's programmed to slow down before it gets to the top so I think you were hallucinating lol Like I said, Ryan was able to make it full speed (it didn't slow down at the top). He told us ahead of time he was doing it and it actually happened. It's just a switch on the ops panel. Yup! It's as simple as turning a key and pushing a button.

Oh during the summer time they send empty trains whenever. We actually stopped using test dummies in the morning during our testing but the night time maintenance team likes to play it extremely safe and they try as hard as they can not to send the last train empty. You can't blame them for being taking the safe route I guess.

This is extraordinarily normal and was probably done deliberately. They always seem to stop the second to last train of the night on the way up the lift. There has to be a reason for it, and the only person here who knows (Ryan) probably can't tell you what that is. Usually at the end of the night (probably because of the ride's valleying problems) they roll a train out of the station, stop it before it leaves the drive tires, roll the last train in, reverse the train in the station into the transfer track once it unloads and then reverse the train that's sticking out of the station back into the station. I don't know why they would need to (seemingly) block stop a train on top of the lift before they do that but I assume the 2 things are somehow related. If you stopped at the top of the lift for a little, it was most likely because the train on the brakes hadn't fully pulled into the station yet. Little known fact, we can not move trains with guests in the exit platform at all. So even if a guest is behind both the exit gate and chain, they still have to be outside the building when we are dispatching and advancing trains. So occasionally we have to stop advancing a train causing the train on the lift to stop. And yes, we do try to avoid sending the last train of the night empty. Maintenance has their tricks.

June 5th is not a Grad Nite, only Friday June 3rd and June 10th. I would expect the park to be fairly crowded but nothing unbearable unless the weather is absolutely amazing and the days before are miserable. There's a Walk for Kids event that day so that may make the park slightly more crowded than it would be but I still wouldn't expect it to be crazy. And yes, the ERTs are always empty.

El Toro vs Skyrush Airtime
El Toro_Ryan replied to AirtimeGod's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You must have thighs of steel. I can do Skyrush once in a row before my legs need a break. I'll take Toro's airtime over Skyrush's any day. (Unless Skyrush were to change its restraints) -

Hey well I was happy to see Toro make it around the track while it was 40 degrees after not running since last Saturday. We were all crossing our fingers so hard. Hopefully tomorrow is better. Haha Did they open Toro? lol We did but literally 3 people showed up to the ride and we couldn't cycle with less than 20 riders. So since we closed at 11:30... We gave zero riders. Haha But yes, we were technically open.

Appreciate it! And yeah the ride was actually running very well after it warmed up. The first few test runs were a little scary tho. Thanks to you too man! That was me telling my team member at the Op panel they could ride again. There was a specific reason for it which I can't really disclose here. haha And look for my crew and I to improve. Almost everyone is new to working in rides or new to Toro so everyone is just getting into the groove of things. Hopefully by May, we'll be rolling trains left and right!

I understand ride op struggles. Non Disclosure Agreements make me sad. haha there's so much more I wish I could say! Also catch me at Toro Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hopefully it doesn't saddle *knocks on wood* See you Friday, I'll be sure to look for you on my many laps. Go for it! I'll be in maroon. Wow, thats the fastest Ive ever seen them winch it back up!
