  1. According to Wikipedia (which isn't a serious source but still), yes. Balder in Sweden was close to $15M (100M Swedish kroner) and after being on both Liseberg either got ripped off or SFGAdv got one heck of a deal. There were rumors SFGadv and Intamin had a package deal with Ka and El Toro, so there may not be an exact price, or El Toro was a few million cheaper. Quite plausible. Back to topic. Is Cedar Point considered the best park in the U.S. by American enthusiasts? By best I mean all aspects and not just the quality of the rides. Of course there will always be a few who has another favorite, but in general. I have noticed quite a lot of "anti Six Flags" feelings here (perhaps those folks just make more noise?) but my first visit to the U.S of A the last week and SFGAdv was really good. Only bad thing I can think of was that mesh roof don't protect you from the sun in the cues and part of the line (Superman I noticed it since it wasn't walk-on) doesn't have protection from the sun at all. I can't wait till 2015 when I will get the chance to visit Cedar Point. In terms of coasters in a traditional amusement park (meaning not a "theme" park like Disney or Universal), it is to many people, including myself. I visit SFGadv somewhat frequently (4 times/year average) and while it is good, it is far from Cedar Point level. SFGadv is certainly a highlight in the chain, but they never seem to get above the "very good" level. Operations, clientele, holes in the park, etc. are some of the problems at the park you just can't overlook, and is what sets Cedar Point apart from the rest of the parks in the country. You're probably going to have a good time any time you go to SFGadv, but Cedar Point is simply a step (or two) ahead.

  3. I have not been on MF but went on El Toro last week and let me tell you: Not only did it scar my fiancée for life but I am still in awe. When I first reached the top going around I said "holy s#!t that steep" out loud and when the drop happened it was like it tried to buck me off the ride in a violent fashion I have never experienced before. Then it just yanked me down with it and took me on a ride never letting go. Craziest for me ever. Glad you liked it! It's my personal #1- ahead of MF and I-305. IMO, it is one of very, very few coasters to deliver sustained ejector airtime including the first drop. El Toro delivers a LOT of everything, and is probably the best $12 million Six Flags has ever spent.
  4. I agree 100%. The only reason I don't rank Raptor higher is because I waited 45 minutes as one of only about 10 FL users waiting due to thunder. 45 minutes in the heat and humidity + resulting headache = bad experience on intense coasters.
  5. Hold on.., don't mean to sound stupid, but have you already ridden Goliath? You made some good points there, but if you haven't ridden it already it's a bit early to know exactly how good the drop will be. Edit: don't get me wrong, I agree I think it will it prides good variety and probably will be good, but you can't say for sure until you ride it.
  6. There are soooooo many different reasons why this would be a horrible, horrible idea.... - Different maintenance required on two different tracks of one coaster. - Different support structure needed - Different track type needed - Different control system needed - The confusion of your average guest - It's simply not a good idea to begin with I could continue the list, but this a horrible idea. I agree on that one. The main reason to keep one wood is nostalgia (which SFMM doesn't care about), but that would potentially limit what the I-Box version could do. There would be absolutely no reason to ride the wooden side, so they would probably end up just tearing it down after a couple years. Did I mention it would just bizarre to have have an extreme steel coaster likely with a completely different layout somewhat racing an old, slow and outdated wooden coaster? I just don't see it happening.
  7. That and the keyhole element are the best parts of that ride. The rest of it, well . . . Haha. That's true, but it was built for the entire family to enjoy, which it does well. It's not very forceful, but it's re-rideable and not painful, like another B&M nearby to remain anonymous
  8. In my view, pull-outs/transitions from inversions can't be recorded for an angle. It doesn't really make a difference to me, unlike the drop angle on "traditional" coasters with a straight drop. I've heard Roar at SFA technically has a 90 degree drop, but I'm not sure.
  9. Sounds great! So, I guess that means you just have to check twitter at the right time, or does he generally tweet earlier in the day to have the chance to use the prizes? Also, if I were to win a Fast Lane Plus (which would be awesome), could I use it the next day? Thanks
  10. If i remember correctly, we had 26 of those last year. My kids were too small to ride the big 4, so my wife and i had a great time using them on a Halloweekend kid free Saturday! The kids played the game, and won 6 4-packs and 2 single line skippies. This year they get to reap the benefits with us! That's awesome! A couple questions- how do you win th 4-pack vs. the single line skippies? Also, for Tony's tweet up Twitter thing, I assume this is something you can do only when you're at the park and you must check Twitter at the right time to get there first and win the prize, is that correct? If I get enought of these skippies during starlight the day before I plan on getting Fast Lane, I may go without FL or get regular FL. Does that sound like a good plan?
  11. ^Thanks do much for replying- great info! As for the line skips, are all the winning slots for the big 4, or are some just for the ride you are playing at? I may play some that Sunday night and see how I do, and if I do well, just use those instead of the FL+. If not, I'll just shell out the cash and more on. Thanks!
  12. Who ever said there will be an RMC wooden coaster at another park? Wildfire at Kolmarden...but other than that, thats still Two RMC hybrids in one year. But it wouldn't surprise me if a woddie went in somewhere in the US next year. My point is that it seems like it'd be a packed year for RMC. Wildfire is 2016. Colossus may also be 2016 though.
  13. Who ever said there will be an RMC wooden coaster at another park?
  14. Anyone have pictures of this? This seems to be a relatively strong rumor
  15. Hey everyone- in the next few days I'll be booking my second ever trip to the Point, I'll be staying overnight on Sunday, August 10 and will be at the park on Monday. Unfortunately, we will be leaving around 4 to 5 in the afternoon to head back home to Virginia. It'll be three of us, and we're looking to be as economical as possible and get as many rides in as possible. There's also a chance I will do starlight the day before, on Sunday. If you can answer any of my questions, please do, I appreciate any help as I'm not sure when the next time I get out to the park will be, if ever. On to the questions... Planning on staying Sunday night at Breakers Express, and with the AAA discount, it looks like the one day ticket package for three is about $220. Is this the best deal I can get, as I definitely want the early entry? Do I have to order the starlight online now, or can I wait until check in the day of and still get the discount ($25)? I used regular Fast Lane last year, but now that Maverick is only on FL+, I might splurge for that. Firstly, is FL+ a necessity for a Monday in August given I want multiple re-rides? Also, can I buy it the day of or day before for the same price ($95)? What crowds can I expect for both days- Sunday night (5-10 pm) and Monday? Last year I went Saturday, July 4th weekend. Big mistake. Any other tips are greatly appreciated!
  16. I completely agree. Even then, I can't wait to see some pictures and TR's of the line when it finally opens to the general public. With only 24 riders per train, even with a short cycle time, I can't imagine wait times under 4 hours the first day.
  17. 99.9% chance he's just trolling to get attention. These types of videos annoy me not only because he looks stupid, but the uninformed are somewhat likely to believe him. Also an obvious SFGam fanboy and very confused B&M hater
  18. Millennium Force and most (if not all) Intamin hypers don't have a mid-course brake. The train loading cannot drop off the lift until the previous train clears the final brakes. Glad you enjoyed Mean Streak! It's certainly not the best wooden coaster out there, but it's not nearly as bad as many enthusiasts claim it is.
  19. First airtime hill is sluggish in the morning and average when it's warmed up. Second airtime hill is taken much faster, and when it's warmed up can approach mild ejector airtime. Bunny hills are fun, good floater air. I actually got about four rides today, it was pretty warm out, and one time I actually greyed out a bit in the first helix. Overall, it's a good ride. Probably the best ride in the park, but not really anything to write home about. Front row is definitely a wait a wait of a few more cycles. Back rows are fun as well with slightly stronger airtime. Today I noticed a slight rattle in the blue train, so watch out for that.
  20. That's Klassy. EDIT: That drop looks amazing! I can NOT wait to try this out!!! It's Six flags. They can't get our hopes up TOO high. One good thing, one bad thing.
  21. To me, setting the media day so far from today shows that there are greater problems than just testing and the clearance/support issue. They were confident in the previous media day leaving only 3 or 4 days to test. Now that they've begun testing, they are leaving around 2 weeks. I don't know, but this is a bit of a red flag to me. The roof on fire is very strange as well.
  22. I still stand behind my point. Those images are behind the scenes for the most part, and this is what any park can look like out of public view. As for the RT piece, I actually thought it was kind of cool- there's not really a need to remove it in the first place. A little nod to thee past. I'm not saying I expect Six Flags to pull something out of Disney's book, but for this particular project, I have faith that it will surely be presentable.
  23. Ummm... I agree, sometimes Six Flags does a half-a** job, but these are very different circumstances. For one, Scream was over 10 years ago and for the sake of increasing the coaster count- it wasn't intended to be themed. Full Throttle is a minimalistic design- I'm not saying they're off the hook for that, but it fits. Sorta. With Zumanjaro, they are adding to one of the better themed coasters in arguably the best themed section of arguably the best themed Six Flags park. Themeing, however little, is remotely present in this ride, which probably can't be said for Full Throttle, and by no stretch of the imagination is it for Scream. Edit: autocorrect puts in "Yolocoaster" when I mean to say its real name. I wouldn't call a roller coaster Yolocoaster even if t is its nickname.
  24. Any plans for vegetation or some sort of theming? Or is the entrance going to just be surrounded by tall wooden fences with dirt/sod on the other side in a large clearing... The queue is surrounded by foliage and assorted plants/flowers etc. currently the fence is there and dirt is still visible in some places near where RT's station was, but I imagine those are only temporary. Have some faith- Six flags isn't known for theming, but they're not gonna do a job like this halfway and leave it looking "temporary." This is a major construction project at one of the premier Six Flags parks- they at least THINK about what they're going to construct.
  25. For El Toro I and many others would say middle row, car 6. It isn't a wheel seat, so it is smooth as butter and equal airtime to the last row. For Nitro, many prefer front row for the view and speed factors. The airtime is similar throughout the train on Nitro- it is mostly floater airtime. Also, watch out for train C on Nitro- avoid the back of that train. I haven't ridden the back on that train, but many say it is jarring and has a severe rattle.
