What's New for 2015
coasterkid124 replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I see you have it there already, but there's just a little update. Darien Lake's Super Loop will be named Rolling Thunder, and they are also adding Skybox slides from Proslide named Brain Drain. -
These are two nice additions for the park. The regular park gets a hole filled in with a new thrill ride, and the water park gets new slides to ease crowds. I don't like how they're reusing the ugly green and blue color scheme from EG's Brain Drain on Rolling Thunder, but I can't complain. A new ride is a new ride. Plus, they used my idea of putting slides in between Tornado and Swirl City. I wish they stole more of my ideas..... *cough* MegaLite on Cuda Falls plot *cough*. A little off topic, but I just found out that the Ranger should be open this year.

Darien Lake is expected to announce their new additions tomorrow.... however, the Super Loop is not the only thing that will be announced. Channel 7 just said that the park will be announcing a large capital investment that is more then just one ride. This is very interesting. As far as I know, no new permits were filed with the town, but I would imagine that if it isn't vertically built then no other permits would be needed. Any ideas on what it could be? Today has been a really exciting news day for Buffalo. First the Sabres trades, then Jon Stewart is retiring (which is sad), now this. Edit: After some more research, I found out that it is not lights going on the Giant Wheel or anything to do with the Cuda Falls plot, so this mystery is even more interesting going into tomorrow.

That's a standard question on the form for any project. I wouldn't read into it at all. Traffic isn't an issue in the area even when ROS was new. That's what I was thinking. The county know that by now traffic for DL hovers at around 1 million visitors per year. Even if it climbs say .5 million, overall, stretched out through the whole season, it will not cause any issues. Questions like that are standard and only cause a problem is something large will cause suburban streets to become packed, or it causes an unsafe traffic situation through a village. DL is on a large road and I don't think that the traffic will ever become a problem.

This will probably be the only new addition seeing that it was the only thing proposed in the town board meeting. But it's better then nothing. At least it will fill in a hole that needs a ride. It also makes me think that Ranger is being removed because the new ride basically does the same thing just on a track. Once ownership changes hands then we will see a big project.

La Ronde Discussion Thread

I don't see why Six Flags would do an RMC on this coaster if it just got new trains, and I believe track work too. The trains could be sent to another park, but wouldn't it be a waste? Doing something similar to Twisted Colossus would be really cool though. -
I think the free mug with $0.99 refills is going to be a better value for a lot of Season Pass holders when compared to the Coke Pass last year, which came at a premium. The only caveat is that pass holders need to visit on or before May 25th, 2015, to pick up the mug. So keep that in mind and visit early! I'm also excited for "dive-in" movies. I'm more of a "dry park" guy myself, but this sounds great for families and guests staying on-property. I know they did a couple weekends of short films on the "laser lawn" during the fall this year and it seemed to be a hit with those staying in the campground. I did not get the Coke Pass last year, but it would have saved a lot of money if I bought drinks from the park. I usually just drink water that I bring from home. But seeing that the mug is free, I'll probably start buying soft drinks. I think that this will be a huge hit with guests, and it will boost customer happiness. Ummm, no. And I don't think that the movies will be in any of the lakes or Floodgate Falls either.... Is this trolling or was that a serious comment?

Season Pass vouchers just came in the mail. There are some new perks included this year. -Souvenir mugs are now INCLUDED with a regular season pass, and there is 99 cent refills. -3 friend tickets - Free parking - New "dive-in" movies - Coupon book Also, passholders get early entrance to Splashtown, discounts, preview day, and pre-sale to concerts. Nothing mentioned about the happiness guarantees, which is a good thing, as it was poorly ran last year. Premier has already added some nice features to season passes, as well as keeping the already good ones made by Herschend. The voucher, as expected, does not mention any new additions, but Premier in my opinion is already on track of things.

I really enjoy the current layout and would prefer topper track. Maybe keep the camel backs the same but over bank the turnarounds a little. Then on the small hills heading towards the brake run maybe add a tunnel or some sort of barrel rolls. The coaster is so underrated just because it's a little rough. In all reality it has more airtime then a lot of coasters that I've been on.

IAAPA 2014 Live Coverage!

The dome theater concept looks great. I'm thinking that with these rumors of Twister at Universal closing maybe this concept could be its replacement. -
I was never a fan of Thorpe. He was never really around and didn't give us much of anything exciting. Montgomery was probably the best GM we had in a while. And he even left before this season. I really hope that this Premier gig ends quickly because I don't think that they will be able to produce much of anything being such a small chain. If Chris Thorpe were smart he would maybe push for a phase 2 of Splashtown now that it's five years later and we need a new slide complex. These are just wishes as I would be very angry if all we got was a show again.

But remember through all this any person can manage the park and put their ideas in. It all comes down to whether or not CNL pays up. This is why they need to go. They don't want to put much into the park and expect to get a lot out. I highly doubt we get a coaster next year unless it's something small. A flat package would be nice as it was mentioned before but now Herschend is gone. But whatever the addition is it needs to be something. This park cannot go two years without something to fill in the holes. I mean who knows, next year more rides could die. Corn Popper has been down a lot last year.

The guarantees didn't solve any issues and only made them worse. There's no reason why RoS should have full switchbacks when the second train WAS ready to be put on. Same can be said for Viper and Predator. Those two coasters were always walk ons but sometimes had an hour long wait last season. The worst part is that the park lied and said that they were going to run two trains. Then whenever a ride broke down or it started to rain, the line at GR would extend passed the bridge in the entry plaza for people waiting for rain checks. The one day I waited 30 minutes for an exit pass to the Viper and the worker never came back. I wasted my time and came out with nothing. The operations are horrible and not only that, now CNL doesn't even care. They just bought the park to make money. They weren't looking for anything long term from the start.

^I second this. ^^I'm by no means trying to start a flame war or backseat moderate, but you have been trolling the forum ever since CNL announced liquidation. Darien Lake is not going to close, Cedar Fair or Six Flags aren't going to buy it, and the Hard Rock Park rides or Skyhawk aren't being moved here. If any of those happen I'll run outside naked with a dunce cap on. Speculation is fine but you're taking it a little too far even going into other threads and posting crazy ideas. Thank you for understanding. I'm sure that I'm not the only poster here who feels this way.

That's a very good point. Bathroom upgrades would be a good addition with a new ride. I would give up a flat package if it meant one new ride and boosted moral of park guests. One area that really needs them is the concert area. Once you get thousands of drunk men partying, the bathrooms don't look nice anymore.
-
People are sick of the park overall. Last year when the Nik Wallenda show was added most people were extremely pissed because the park because they keep removing rides and not replacing them. One of the largest complaints is how the older rides keep breaking down and new ones aren't being added. In the long run what will bring people to the park. New rides or clean bathrooms? You can't exactly run advertisements that say "New for 2015: Beautiful Bathrooms!" The GP is finally realizing that CNL doesn't care about the property, they just wanted to profit off of the investment.
-
Herschend wasn't booted. Their contract ended and they chose not to return because CNL either isn't ready to sell yet or is asking too much. Herschend will likely look to buy the park when it is actually up for sale. For now don't expect to see any big changes under Premier. I'm even beginning to wonder if we will get any new rides next year. The way I see it, people will be even more angry at the park if it goes two years without any new rides.

Parks nearly never reply to fan mail or ideas. There is a reason for that. They have their own creative department and management usually always decides on final ideas. If every person who goes to the park floods them with emails, they won't respond at all. As said in the post above, there is a ton of behind the scenes stuff going on. Most of it is because of the management change of course. But there are a lot of others too.
