Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Wow. Way to undersell a significant announcement. Just in case there are any theatre-types on this board: we've launched a national search for a playwright (and a general manager) for the 1,500-seat Lincoln Amphitheatre. The bicentennial of Lincoln's birth is in '09, so the new play will be an important part of our nation's celebration. For more info: www.lincolnamphitheatre.com. Now back to our regularly scheduled program... Paula -

You missed one ... ...a big old, well-aiming bird pooped a massive, multi-colored discharge on the lens of the SplashCam mid-afternoon. As gross as it was, you gotta admire the pluck of that boid. (The Raven is jealous, perhaps?) Luckily, we got it sprayed off in under an hour and it looks fine again. I love my job. Paula -

Actually ... I'm a native New Yorker. But my grade-school years were in Massachusetts. Glad you gave us a second try ... yes, it's a huge struggle to be open this week. (You may not have looked across the road to our Legend Lot, as it had scores of school buses in it, hence the compelling reason to be open.) Paula -
Just wanted to post this reminder that the pre-registration deadline for this year's HoliWood Nights (May 18 & 19) is this Saturday. Here's the link to the flyer and FAQs: www.holidayworld.com/clubs. Although the event is earlier in the season than last year, the bonus is that we expect lower event attendance this year, since ACE is coming here as part of their convention in June. (Do the math: Lower Attendance = More Rides 4U.) Anyway, since there is a $15 "Procrastination Tax" if you sign up later than Saturday, thought you'd appreciate the reminder. Hope to see you next month! Paula

Ummmm...okay. The event will be held a few weeks earlier than this year, but we'll follow the same basic schedule. Here's the link to the page which lists the dates for the event, plus our season-long pricing for members of the clubs listed: http://holidayworld.com/clubs/. We don't have pricing for the event yet, but I'll post something when it's all figured out. Thanks, Paula

No...I'd triple checked with the producer before sending out the news release and it was definitely slated to air tonight. There was an interview with Sarah Vowell that tied in with Will's bit ... that was shot in-studio immediately after the satellite interview with Will; it didn't run either. I hope to find out what's up in the morning and will post an update. Wah! Paula

Quite candidly, it can really get on our nerves, too. I'm sorry, but being put that high up on a pedestal just makes me dizzy! When we're told, "I said to so-and-so, the GM at such-and-such, that they should be more like Holiday World..." we just cringe. I even told one enthusiast to quit calling Will a genius -- it's embarrassing! I think it will please you to know that at the conclusion of the second night of HoliWood Nights (following many, many kind comments from attendees) Will turned to me and said, "I think I've had about all the love I can take." Regarding the tilt ... it's new, Sellner is designing it as we speak and they hope to have a car at IAAPA. The old tilt was removed to make way for the Thanksgiving walkway. And regarding Bakuli, it grosses me out that it's being referred to as a nasty old toilet. It's a bowl ... a candy bowl, a cereal bowl, a mixing bowl, a vegetable bowl, even a fruit bowl. Okay? Thanks, Paula -
In the hope that I can get a tiny bit of work done this week, I've added a bunch of FAQ answers here on our website: http://holidayworld.com/clubs/. If you have any additional questions, it's okay to email me. But the phone calls are about to drive me over the edge... See you soon! Paula

I think the other main option was another hill -- but it was nothing significant enough to catch Will's attention. Btw, I know Robb and Elissa like to kid around...but I want to set the record straight about that duck ... it was seriously chasing us! It sort of freaked me out. Paula -

That was back in October. The Gravity Group guys went to Will with several options for tweaking that little piece of track and he chose to add a third 90*. Paula -

As Will put in his trip report (http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2006/04/view-from-front-erback-seat.html) ...as you crest out of the crazy turnaround, you lose a lot of energy. Then you tip into the underground triple-down the speed picks right up and builds and builds. When you see the station, you think it's about done ... but you go for another double loop around the back. If I could have breathed at that point, I would have screamed: STOP THE INSANITY! Paula -
