  1. Does anyone actually have the attendance numbers throughout the years for knotts since maybe like 99-current? I really wanna see if all these family attractions are adding to their attendance. I agree wonder mountain looks pretty bad but I get the fact knotts is a lot cheaper to go to than Disneyland (given Knotts is getting that type of ride). People say knotts is doing all family rides cause of business but is there any proof that attendance is up? I'd also like to see attendance numbers the year a new coaster is finally put in I'd be willing to bet those numbers would be higher.
  2. Knotts network just posted new trains for Boomerang in 2015. By new trains they mean new brakes, wheels, axles frame etc. My question with all that work why not just invest in the new trains with the Vekoma vests?
  3. So the restraint popped up according to reports meaning more than likely that the hydraulic failed. I'm assuming the seat belt isn't designed in the case of the restraint popping up as I'm sure once the hydraulic failed his weight plus the force of the ride probably broke the seatbelt?
  4. If your a bigger rider just the lap restraint may not hold you in. I'm not saying the hydraulics failed (the restraint would come up in that case) I'm saying the force from the ride plus his weight his shoulders could have pushed through the plastic harness and basically they tore (I don't believe there is metal inside the plastic) so it is indeed possible to push through it with enough force (which these rides can provide said force) not to mention the amount of strain on the restraints from prior riders. I've only ridden Green Lantern which my understanding is the most tame of all these Zac Spins and no joke my shoulders had red marks all over (also my thighs) I can't even imagine how many times you are going forward and back against the restraint being spun around on any other Zac Spin. This is of course all assuming thats what indeed happened. The only other thing I can think of is the restraint popped up but to your point that would be a hydraulic fail and I doubt that happened plus the seatbelt (as long as it was put on) holds it in place in case that were to happen.
  5. On a coaster show a couple years ago they said a proven study showed you have more of a chance dying BRUSHING YOUR TEETH than dying riding a roller coaster.
  6. ^Fair enough points. What they could do though if if you weigh between X-Y you sit in the test seat that lights up green to clear you or red if it wouldn't (the test seat should factor in different body shapes ETC). If you're above weight Y (determined by the coaster manufacture and park) regardless if you'd clear the test seat you can't ride.
  7. The state wouldn't approve Windseeker to reopen due to it just being stuck on top this IMO is a lot worse. Sad if they won't approve it to reopen as Ninja was one of my favorites.
  8. I was just going to say if the park wanted an excuse to remove Ninja here it is...
  9. First of all I can see how this can come across as mean and that is NOT my intention at all. In the last 10 months 2 people have died on roller coasters both due to being over weight (report for todays accident claims the rider was overweight) and falling off the coaster train. I remember someone else falling off Perilous Plunge about 12 years ago and another person on the same type of ride both due to being overweight. I don't recall but I'm sure there have unfortunately been more instances in the last 12 years. In any regard two instances in a year is a bit high. Do you think its time parks have a scale that people have to stand on to be cleared to ride along with a test seat? I'm not saying make everyone who are obviously under the max weight limit, but people who may be close to it have them stand on a scale along with a test seat. I would think heavier riders would rather do this than wait 2 hours just to do the walk of shame or risk their lives even if they fit.
  10. I guess if he's over weight and the harnesses (both sides) broke due to his weight giving them too much force (plus all the force thats been on them for how many years the ride has been open) makes the most sense so far. If this indeed happened I would guess the side part of the lap bar didn't matter for his size (as it would be sticking out too much) and during an inversion he probably easily slipped out. Of course this is given he was indeed overweight and the straps on the restraints broke (which makes the most sense). Unfortunately I can see if thats what indeed happened (the straps breaking) I can see them going with the hard restraints on all these rides and maybe even I-305 since they have the vests now as well. Will be interesting to see what indeed happened.
  11. Iron Rattler was announced in August 2012 and opened early 2013. Medusa had a similar timeline. Why do you think Colossus would take longer? I'm basing it off the length given they're keeping both tracks. Texas giant took a year and a half and granted it was their first one it's still a lot longer in length than iron rattler and steel medusa. I hope they can do it for 2015 and maybe now they've done so much even being the longest one (if they indeed keep the length) they can now do it in a short amount of time.
  12. That is horrible news! Question with the seat belts on some otsr aren't those designed for both making sure the rider isn't too big and also in case the restraints pop open to prevent it from opening all the way? Another thing that makes this even more odd is Intamins belts tighten meaning even if the restraint unlocked it shouldnt pop up that much (if at all). I can't see an 18 year old (even with the harness popping open with the seat belt still on) being small enough to fit between the shoulder harness. I'm guessing either the seat belt failed or it was never put on when checking the train. It'll also be interesting to see what other parks like sfmm do to their versions of this ride.
  13. As I said above I just don't know if there will or won't be camelbacks back to back as I can't tell on the blueprint. If you know for sure this blueprint is indicating no camelbacks than by all means, but if indeed there aren't I'd think that be more boring to just go straight make a turn go straight some more than go through the helix. So its either a near identical ride to Intimidator (just taller) if there are camelbacks or a ride that just goes straight and makes a turn (seeming even more boring IMO). Either way I still stand by my original point they should have built a giga from a different manufacture.
  14. The Leviathan/Behemoth argument is legit, but this layout looks nothing like Intimidator. Source I would actually say this compared to Intimidator looks far more similar than Behemoth and Leviathan. The only difference I see is the 2nd turnaround goes from left to right in the blueprints while Intimidator goes right to left. Watch parts of this video at a time and follow along with the blueprints it almost seems like they're nearly identical. I just don't know if there are going to be camelbacks like on Intimidator.
  15. I don't get the point of parks doing this. This doesn't look too different from Intimidator (given the blueprints are legit and its a B&M it actually looks almost exactly the same) just as Leviathan doesn't look too different from Behemoth (besides the height and Behemoths helix). I get obviously the height difference is marketable but why not add an Intamin giga like MF or Intimidator 305? I get the fact B&M tends to me more reliable, but I think its worth the risk to build something completely different and something that people tend to say are better and more forceful rides (Intamin vs B&M gigas). A ride like Intimidator and Intimidator 305 are completely different and even though I haven't been to Canada's Wonderland the general comments I see are Leviathan and Behemoth are very similar just one is higher. Cedar Point it makes sense as Magnum and Millennium are two completely different rides. I thought La Ronde was crazy for having two non boomerang inverts, BUT at least they're from two different companies (even though one completely sucks) and two different layouts.
  16. ^^ If they're indeed using the current Colossus structure and not starting till at least mid Aug I can't see it opening till 2016 (unless RMC has some serious things up their sleeves to help with a massive project like that). With that being said in 2015 if they just restored Revolution with new trains/brakes and tidied up the park I would be ecstatic (as I think a majority of people would be as well). They could easily market this as IMO it would almost make Revolution a new ride. Heck if you want to draw people in (if they indeed need something brand new) if they have a budget do that plus add a Euro Fighter or God forbid add a flat like a Giant Frisbee. I now live in Vegas but if they announced for 2015/2016 all they were doing was restoring Revolution I would be out there in a heartbeat. Don't get me wrong if they can get the new Iron Colossus done in 2015, than if 2016 they just restored Revolution I'd be ecstatic for both years as well. Heck if they have the budget for both years do Iron Colossus and Revolution in 2015 and make everyone happy!
  17. Not gonna lie I thought the same thing. Been like 8 years since Johnny Rockets was added and all the sudden there's a fire in the building they're rumored to build an attraction in. To me that means work was being done and something happened. Unless this is just a HUGE coincidence.
  18. Obviously Six Flags doesn't feel safe with these trains (granted they have a right as someone did fall out). I don't see why during the off season they don't just switch them to the RMC trains (like on Goliath) which seem to be safer. Having everyone sit in the test seats before going in the line is just overkill and as I said its obvious Six Flags isn't comfortable with these trains.
  19. I have a hard time believing that station picture isn't photo shopped. That is just embarrassing, especially considering the decent job they did with Apocolypse (mainly queue line) just 2 years ago.
  20. I think they mean your head going forward and back (hitting the headrest) not side to side as that's not possible with the restraint.
  21. I'm 6'2 215LBS and Green Lantern is brutal IMO worse ride in the park. My girlfriend, and friends all various heights (between 5'8-6'4) and weights (between 150LBS-250LBS) all agree it's the worse ride there and all say it's just painful. The restraints for this type of ride are terrible (the same type on coasters even Intimidator 305 are great) and when you get off the ride your thighs will be red and hurting and if your over probably 5'11 those shoulder straps REALLY dig into your shoulders and you'll have marks for sure. If you REALLY want or need the credit go for it, but don't say there aren't enough warnings
  22. Another question on RMC. Why do they have two different coaster trains? I originally thought the type of train like on Giant/Iron Rattler were for converts while the ones like on Goliath/Outlaw Run were for their start from scratch rides than I realized Medusa has the newer train as well. I'm thinking maybe cause the newer ones are safer and moving forward those are what they'll use? If anyone has insight to this please let me know.
  23. Was just curious if anyone knew as to why RMC doesn't provide a grab/handle bar on their coasters? Their newer trains (Goliath, Medusa, Outlaw Run) don't have anything to hold onto and their older trains (Giant and Iron Rattler) have the little knob on the t-bar that honestly doesn't do anything and IMO is pointless to even have. I can't think of any other coaster that doesn't provide a grab bar in front of you or at least on the restraint (or both). In no way is this a complaint as I always have my hands up, just something I realized and was just more curious as to why they don't provide it.
  24. I totally missed that totally my fault will delete but thanks anyway for the reply.
  25. I'm betting that we don't see Colossus open at all next year. I think this ends up being a 2016 debut. They redid Iron Rattler and Medusa in less than a year, however thise rides are around 3300 ft. I don't see if they go with the one continuous 8000+ ft of track being done in a year, and if that is indeed what they do I agree this will probably be their 2016 attraction, although I hope we are proven wrong and they can get it done in 10 months.
