Finally got to experience all five upcharge Fright Fest attractions. While I did the hayride last year, this was my first time in a real Halloween maze. Here is my opinion on all of them, in the order we did them. Zombie Paintball Apocalypse Scare factor- 0/5 Details/themeing- 3/5 Intensity- 1/5 Scare actors- 1/5 My grading makes it look like this was a major disappointment. But really, it is hard to compare this to a haunted maze. I wish there would have been more "live" targets (there were 3-4 on each side, and they weren't in zombie costumes, but hoodies and protective wear), but there were explosions and lots of graffiti that were cool. Overall, the experience is a little pricey, so it is best to buy the $35 house and hayride pass. Blind Fury Scare factor- 2/5 Details/themeing- 5/5 Intensity- 3/5 Scare actors- 2/5 Blind Fury had some really cool effects, such as moving floor panels, inflatable walls, and a spinning tunnel. The scare actors weren't all that scary, but the park did a good job that the abandoned toy factory theme was kept throughout the entire experience. The robot teddy bear outside was hilarious. This maze is not to be missed. Total Darkness Scare factor- 1/5 Details/themeing- 0/5 Intensity- 2/5 Scare actors- 0/5 Definitely the worst of the five upcharge attractions. Trying to find your way through the pitch black maze was confusing and intense, but nothing scary. There were two scare actors that attempted to scare us. I don't know why there weren't more. Plus, the line took an hour. They sent 4-6 people in a minute. The slowest moving line of the night, and it really wasn't worth it. The Slaughter House Scare factor- 5/5 Details/themeing- 3/5 Intensity- 5/5 Scare actors- 4/5 One of my top two mazes of the night. I really don't know why this maze seems to be ignored by people. I thought it was by far the scariest. The scare actors were very active and each one was unexpected. The props and scenery could use a little refreshing, but the dead bodies hanging from the ceiling that you had to push through were fun, plus there was another set of inflatable walls. Also, the cage in the middle of the maze was a nice touch. It threw us around all over the place! But wasn't there supposed to be a Pig Man? Insanity Alley Scare factor- 4/5 Details/themeing- 4/5 Intensity- 4/5 Scare actors- 5/5 Another one of the top two mazes of the night. These scare actors were definitely the best at their job. The lighting that made it hard to see added to the scariness. The story was as simple as insane and crazy humans taking over a park and an alley. The sinking mulch was crazy and I am still wondering how they did it. Since it was pretty much just me and my dad the entire time, every actor followed me around. So here is how I'd rank the attractions: 1. The Slaughter House 2. Insanity Alley 3. Blind Fury 4. Zombie Paintball Apocalypse 5. Total Darkness Here is the order of how I'd recommend going through the mazes, going from the least scariest and least intense to the scariest and most intense: 1. Zombie Paintball Apocalypse 2. Total Darkness 3. Blind Fury 4. Insanity Alley 5. The Slaughter House

The news about Iron Boss is sad. With the upcoming 100th anniversary of the carousel, I'm hoping they refurbish it and move it to the front plaza. It would look nice and match the look of the surrounding area with the ferris wheel, Palace Theater, and train nearby. The park definitely is focused on fixing up what we have.

Rumors about SDC for 2015 are all over the place. Screamscape reports the Geyser Gulch renovation/launch tower is coming then, other sources say B&M coaster, and I'm sure there are other rumors. I heard from a fellow enthusiast than what you're saying about a B&M coaster is correct. But there are too many possibilities and none of them are supported by park management, so 2015 could bring anything at this point. We'll how would the park management support any idea for a new ride and let people know about it without just spilling the beans about a new attraction. Not trying to to start a fight just trying to support a topic. Six Flags St. Louis posted pics of the Hannibarrells and park employees stated Tsunami Soaker was coming. Six Flags Great America pretty much revealed that they would be adding a wooden coaster a week before they officially announced it. I'm sure there are other examples. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was a B&M coaster in 2015 (even though the Geyser Gulch replacement is more likely). But the SDC Fan forums aren't reliable sources.

The only people I saw screaming were 10-12 year old girls. And they make up a small percentage of the total visitors. There were many scare actors, but the only one I saw scare other people was the zombie with the stroller. Yeah, while it is a good show, LAFF has been at the park for three years and it is getting old. I forgot, but yeah the wolf guy got his song changed. Other than that, there were no new songs or jokes. Nobody laughs at the show anymore because everyone has already seen it. The cast hardly changed. Frankie, the Wolf, and the Green witch are the only changes in the cast. A hint for those who don't like to be scared but want to see others being freaked out: stand on the Palace Porch during Freaks Unleashed. No scare actors go up there! We walked through the area near the butcher shop, but was there really a walkthrough that we missed? Or is it just another scare zone? Was the clown walkthrough full of scare actors or was it just illusions?

My trip report from opening day of Fright Fest 2013: Fright Fest is always a fun time at the park. Scare actors, creepy music, themed spooky areas, and rides in the dark are always fun. But this year, the whole thing didn't click. Yes, it is opening day, but with an event with such little days, the kinks should have already been worked out at dress rehearsals. I'm hoping when I go back in October the event will be much different. I didn't go into any haunted houses since we left around seven, but here is what I think is not working this year: 1. Six Flags doesn't know what will scare people. I watched as people were laughing at the scare actors and being freaked out by the loud fireball machine. I only got to see Freaks Unleashed (when all the scare actors gather in front of the Palace), so maybe in their scare environments it works better. There were some cool things, like the pop out baby in the stroller, but people just aren't scared by these people in the daylight. This leads into #2. 2. Fright Fest's hours don't work. The scare actors aren't scary at all in the daylight. I think they should open the park at 2-3 daily, and then have the scare actors come out at around 7:30 or 8, not 6, and keep the park open until 1 or 2 in the morning. Just a thought. 3. The shows are the same. Why can't Six Flags come up with original shows anymore? There haven't been any new shows in a few years, and Love at First Fright is just boring. They didn't even change the setlist or add any new jokes. I'd rather see this show if they made it like Bill & Ted, with lots of pop culture parodies. The year LAFF opened, they did this well. At least the singers are okay. Deadman's Party is definitely worse than last year. The freak show was pretty good actually, the guy just needs to work a little on his jokes. I like that they have multiple versions though, so you can come back and see a different show every time. 4. The decorations aren't finished yet. Half of the inflatables were either halfway blown up or just torn up and laying on the ground. But the decorations already up look pretty cool. I like the spider arch and the tree of bloody shows. 5. The train ride isn't even open. The idea of a Christmas-Halloween mash-up sounds cool, but why is it no I'm sorry if anybody who works at the park is offended, but I think the park wasn't ready, and that is my honest opinion. Decorations started going up early September, so the park should be ready. Even if it was the first day, there were dress rehearsals for everything, right? I'm just hoping it will be better next weekend. I will hopefully have haunted house and paintball ride reviews in October.

This is me just dreaming. I was thinking of an RMC coaster creation, which would have a station replacing the Moon Cars. The lift hill would head over the train tracks and over the picnic grove. The drop would send the train underneath the parking lot and onto that huge island that is on the right side as you enter the parking lot. That is where most of the ride would take place, before sending riders into a barrel roll right above a redesigned parking lot entrance. I just thought it would be cool to have a ride pretty much in the parking lot. It would be cool to be surrounded by a coaster as you enter the park, wouldn't it? Just a thought.

Have you been on Boulder Dash? Lake Compounce is a beautiful little park. My work commute is 2hrs home everyday. If I found myself a mere 2hrs away from the GTA's newest best wood coaster, I'd be gone. You can also hit Quassy too on the way. If it was up to me I'd go, but the main part of the trip is NYC, so we have limited time. I'm the only enthusiast in our group, the trip can't just revolve around me (even though I wish it would ) and an extra three hours of driving just to hit one stellar coaster doesn't appeal to anyone else.

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
Woodie Warrior replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just wondering, does Kennywood have a Flash Pass/Fast Lane-type system? -
Does Coney Island, SFGAD, Hersheypark, and Kennywood sound good?

Boulder Dash is 2 hours away from New York, so I don't think it is worth the time. Coney Island may be sometime during our 4 days in New York, and we will stop at SFGAD and Hersheypark and possibly one more park.
