In addition to the info provided - take $20 out of your budget and play the Gatekeeper plinko game (there are also ones near MF and Maverick as well - but I've had the best luck with this one - all work the same way) - You'll get 5 chances per $10 to win front of line passes for the big 4 (for 2 riders each) - this will make your day way more enjoyable if you can win 4 of these. If you win, you enter via the exit ramp of the rides - and the only one that doesn't take you right to the load platform is MF - it takes you to about 20 feet outside the station - so about a 15 min wait for a regular seat. You can also wait for front row on MF - whereas with the other's you will not be able to as they will tell you to pick any seat but the front. You can also follow @TonyClarkCP on Twitter - he will do "tweeteups" (more so on weekends) to win front of line passes, slingshot vouchers, french fry or drink wristbands among other things. He doesn't always tweet - but he usually gives a warning an hour or so before he does - but with such a big park it can be hard to get to him in time - but it's still fun to try. Also - if you are there until close - note that the lines will stay open until 8 minutes past closing time - so 10:08 PM on your day. I'd get in line for MF (or whatever your favorite ride is) at 10:07 PM - they will finish out the line - and it is amazing how fast the crews hustle when they know they get to finish up once the line clears! This also allows traffic to clear off the peninsula. It's also really cool to walk through the near empty park at the end of the day. Have a great trip! -

There were limited spots available to camp out overnight - they did not release numbers but I saw a sheet at sign in that said there were 159 camp spots. Each spot could hold up to 4 campers - some had 1 - most had 3 or 4. When registration opened in late January folks had to submit their information via CP's website to enter a "lottery" for chance to be selected for a camp site. In early February they contacted folks that had "won" the camp site lottery. You could also register for this event as a non-camper for yourself and one other guest. You could have access to all activities (ERT, food, etc.) but would not have access to the camp areas (well except to walk back to Maverick for ERT). They also posted special hotel rates for those that either did not, or were not, selected to camp. I believe this registration was open until sometime in April. Being a first time event I think CP wanted to keep manageable crowd numbers and see how it went. They could have squeezed some more tents back there - but it would have taken away from the experience I think. The only thing participants had to pay for was parking. As long as the registrant was a coaster club member, themselves and their guest(s) were given free entry to Cedar Point Friday and Saturday - on top of all the activities for the Coaster Campout event. I have free parking with my Cedar Fair Platinum pass - so all this cost me was the price of gas and some tolls. The event itself was priceless to me and my family. Also wanted to add that it looked like everyone did a great job cleaning up their camp sites - I saw no trash in the grassy areas (and we were one of the last tents out) So kudos to folks for being respectful. Again 95% of the attendee's were excited and grateful for the hospitality of the park. Already looking forward to the event next year! -

My Cedar Point Coaster Campout Experience

Thanks for the positive feedback Robb! I do not know which group they were with - they were at the opposite end of the Antique Car infield. My wife saw them packing up on her way out to the restrooms and as she walked by heard the Cedar Point police office radio to someone that there were guests exiting the park. Again - I'd say there were a few isolated incidents - and most were ok once they realized it was all part of the experience. I mean there were folks complaining of the soda selection at the FREE dinner - some people are never happy. Don't worry - we had a blast and did our best to represent Club TPR! -
So, way back in January Cedar Point announced their first ever "Coaster Campout". We entered the lottery for a chance to participate and did not get an immediate response and thought we were out of luck. Apparently, just the grassy area was filled up and other areas on the concrete were opened up and we were given one of those. Initially not thrilled about camping on concrete - we were still ecstatic to be in the park for the event. Fast forward almost 6 months and it was finally here! My family and I are city slickers so camping is definitely roughing it for us - love the outdoors but prefer to do my sleeping indoors. But this was different - this was about living out that hypothetical question - wouldn't it be awesome to sleep overnight INSIDE the park?!?! Being as there are accommodations so close to the park - it may not seem so special - but was it ever! We knew it would be a long day / night - so we ended up getting to the park around 2:30 PM. We got our lanyards, Coaster Campout blanket (with free french fry voucher attached!) and of course our general camp location. We were surprised that we got bumped to the grassy area - due to some folks cancelling and/or them tweaking the camp site after the initial setup. However it happened we were grateful! We rode a few rides and walked through Frontier Town to see all the signs for early closure of many of the rides for our big event! We of course also stuffed our faces with the complimentary dinner at Point Pavilion. Before we knew it it was time to get our gear and line up for camp assignment - we ended up lining up about 8:15 PM (we were too excited) and were first for the grassy area. We got a great spot - and pulling our gear through the crowded Gemini Midway brought a lot of odd looks (well more than usual) and is something we will never forget. Now the real the fun (or work) began of getting our home base all setup - for us non-seasoned campers this was a bit of a chore - but eventually I pitched a tent at Cedar Point! The reality that we were actually going to be spending the night INSIDE the park really sank in once we saw that tent there. We helped a fellow coaster enthusiast fill his air mattress and milled about until the 10:30 PM kick-off. I think a good bit of folks went back to the main park as the park was open until midnight - my kids actually wanted to also but we insisted that we stay back in the camp out area - after all this is what we had been waiting for - and a lot of people put in a lot of work for us to be there this night. I'm the only Skyhawk fan in the group (I know, right?) so I grabbed 2 quick rides - we did one quick ride on Mine Ride - and spent the rest of the time marathoning Maverick - I think we got 7 or so rides in. It was now midnight so ERT had ended. We snacked on some pre-made s'mores the park provided and headed back to our tent. We got situated and tried to get some rest. Overall the crowd was very well-behaved - a few loud moments here and there plus a crying baby for a bit (yes - a crying baby) but quiet time was not until 2 AM so no big deal. Counselor Clark made an announcement around 12:30ish (his words) that all campers should head back to their tents at this time - and not to feed the animals - or something to that effect. I think I finally started to doze off around 1:30 AM - then around 1:50AM came the obnoxiously loud "spooky" music - this went on what seemed like 5 minutes or so - at the end a creepy female voice told some scary tale that I don't quite recall - and then it went quiet - for about 10 seconds. Next we heard a witch cackling and werewolves howling and the occasional scream... Peeking out of our tent revealed what appeared to be a very aged Little Red Riding Hood and her Big Bad Wolf. They were going tent to tent making noises and brushing against the tents - I found it all quite humorous. Then we saw a few cowboy like skeleton creatures that were also about causing havoc. People were popping out of their tents with that WTF look on their faces - it was a sight to behold. Though I did overhear some not so happy folks who thought the stunt had gone too far - actually saw one group take down their tent and leave!!! But a majority of the folks ate it up! I mean, we are camping - so there should be a scary story in there somewhere (maybe not at 2 AM) Plus we are in an amusement park - which is all about F-U-N. My son and I made it out to the midway where the 6 or so monsters were gladly taking pictures with folks - we got ours and soon they were gone - back into the night. It took a little while for camp to settle down again - but around 2:30 or so all was quiet - except the faint sound of a few rain drops - which ended up being a steady rain the rest of the night... I don't think I every fully fell asleep - just dozed off for a while here and there - partly from the rain / partly from the excitement / partly from being over-tired. Tony tweeted around 6:30 AM that ERT was still on for MF and GateKeeper at 7 AM (even though it was still a light rain at that time). He also played Reveille over the loud speaker shortly there after - which was no surprise - and told us to wipe the drool off our faces and grab our fanny packs for ERT - and that we needed to have all gear cleared out by 8:30 AM. My son and I headed up to MF - we got there right at 7 AM. (He was thrilled to get to ride MF in his pajamas!) There was only 1 person in front of us. Seems that most folks had enough and proceeded to take down their tents ASAP and most likely headed up to eat breakfast. We got a quick 5 rides in and then headed back to pack up. We then made the long, wet trip back to the Soak City parking lot to drop our gear - then another long, wet trip up to Coaster's for breakfast. We saw Tony on our way and thanked him for the "unforgettable night" - which he replied he had no idea what we were talking about - coolly playing off our surprise visitors last night. We then headed over to GateKeeper - which was now down - but soon came up right before 9AM - we waited 2 trains for the front row, left wing - and that's how we ended our crazy coaster campout experience - a day / night / morning we will NEVER forget! tl/dr - Surpassed all expectations - had a wonderful time - hoping this happens again! Thanks so much to Cedar Point for having this event! Edit: Added PDF of flyer sent to overnight campers. Here's some pics of our great experience... The wait was finally over! It was time for Coaster Campout! They added this fun retro barrel outside the Trail Tavern - check the pics around the Breakers hotel for the barrel's history Caught this fun little show on the Frontier Trail No one was hurt in the performing of this skit It will close because I will be sleeping there tonight! Even Mine Ride will get some ERT love tonight Noticed this sign on the Antique Cars covered bridge - What is a neat creature? I will be back Maveshark! Took a spin on the Giant Wheel - makes for some great views Maybe not the best B&M but certainly one of the most photogenic Going wide on the Giant Wheel's support structure (are they spokes?) Look what showed up behind Dragster Night has fallen and tent city has formed around the Antique Cars infield This nomadic group will be gone in less than 12 hours This is command central for us tonight It was fun to walk along the track and try to balance on the steel rail - it was not easy! More of the new neighborhood We hung our Coaster Campout banner proudly on our tent - made with real felt! I wanted to walk through this tunnel soooo bad Camp Rou - Our first clue that we were in for a surprise tonight! The pre-ERT gathering for Maverick - as you can see we pretty much had the back of the park to ourselves Looking back to our new home This road is closed tonight It really was a surreal and beautiful sight to see all these tents The gazebo was even in fine form for the event Yes we did pretend to drive the cars on the track I actually got to spend the night inside the Best Amusement Park in the World! (well at least according to some) 2014_Coaster_Campout_Guidelines.pdf 2014 Coaster Campout Guidelines The blanket and lanyards we received for the event The registration tent outside Magnum's gate These cards were handed back with your receipt at the parking booth to let everyone know of the early ride closures A spy shot of tonight's camp grounds Here's some pics I snapped with my phone of the monsters as they were making there way out More monster selfies My son at I about 2:30 AM w. pajamas, red-eye and monsters! What a night! This tag was attached to each blanket for some free fries

Decided to break my #1 rule and go to Cedar Point on an insanely busy day. Knew what I was getting myself (and my family) into and knew that it would be more site-seeing than coaster riding. Plus, once I saw the beautiful weather forecast along with the fun activities planned (and of course the fireworks!) it was a go. Also, as a bonus we got to get our first rides on the newly opened SlingShot - and we all loved it! Thankfully we had free passes from the Winter ChillOut event - because the asking price of $25 a piece (there is 10% discount for Platinum Pass holders) is a little steep - though probably in-line with other SlingShots. I really was expecting not to like the ride - but the smooth launch, couple of fun flips and a gorgeous view of the park made this a winner. And the crowds that would gather to watch really added some new excitement to that end of the Gemini Midway. The airshow was a little "meh" - pretty short and only 1 plane that never came to close or low to the beach. Imagine this for 10 minutes and this was the extent of the daytime show. 3 skydivers made there way down to the park at the end of the show. Just watching (and listening) to the SlingShot launches is entertainment in and of itself. Seemed like everyone came off with a smile on their face! Tony hamming it up for the pie eating contests. The setting for the pie eating contest was setup like something straight out of a movie. Tony unleashing belly aches for the young'uns Yes - you will even get pie in your eyebrows! This sleeping goat slept right through everyone coming up and saying 'hi' - it's tough work being this cute. Looked up to see the moon and Mantis while waiting for the kids to use a Front of Line pass on TTD. Iron Dragon was looking sexy with the mist and the late afternoon sun. Trying to be artsy Do you like to be dropped or shot? Ending of Luminosity from the beach. The night airshow as pretty much like the day except for the cool flares on the wings The sun was setting - so that means the fireworks are getting close! Oooh! Aaah! Kaboom! You get the point... Wasn't sure if there were actually sending riders up WindSeeker or just sending up for show. Liked how WindSeeker looked in this one. The perfect firework. During the finale - this looked like an atomic bomb going off. Rejoice - Nothing says 'murica like large, colorful explosions!

Got a new wide angle lens and got trigger happy at the park this weekend - covered all over the park inside and out - wanted to capture some non-coaster parts of the park (don't worry there's still plenty of coaster shots!) Here's a few for you - and a BUNCH more HERE!. Checked out the Bluegrass Jamboree on the Frontier Trial Stopped inside the Glass Shop Saw coasters get eaten by dinosaurs! Took some night shots. Checked out what was going on inside Found Linus at the carousel. Took a walk back to Magnum's pretzel loop. Checked out what was happening inside Lusty Lil's -

I can give you some tips about CP - been to KI a few times but not enough to offer a good game plan or magic seats. Though Banshee front is obviously a must do. Have to do front row of TTD - to me any other row is about the same experience. MF - another front seat must do (do during day to really experience that drop - also lots of bugs at night) - I prefer the back row otherwise. I thing I've read that car 5-1 is the airtime seat - but I don't think so - just depends when you ride and how it's running. It is faster at night after getting warmed up vs. the early morning rides. GateKeeper - I like front right and back left - again anything in-between seems about the same to me. It's not a very forceful ride - except that first flip from the back left row - the views from the front are nice and there seem to be more near miss elements on the right. I like Wicker Twister in the back few rows. Raptor - front usually for me - same w. Mantis. Blue Streak - just pick a center seat w.out wheels and it is a fun ride - any other seat can be jarring. Magnum - front is always fun - I usually go towards the back rows. I like this ride at night - nice and dark back towards the beach. Maverick - I usually wait for and prefer the front. Back is good for a nice whip over the first drop. It seems to be running really fast this year - the LIM launches seem stronger. Makes for some nice airtime pops - but also some head banging turns. Mean Streak - front is ok - no really great seats. Mine Ride / Corkscrew / Gemini / Iron Dragon - doesn't matter where you sit. Don't forget WoodStock Express and Wilderness Run if you need the credits - Also checkout PipeScream - it is more forceful than the one at Kings Island - actually a pretty fun ride. You have a pretty solid plan - though also don't see the need to go through Columbus to get to CP. If you have FLP for 2 days, early entry and ERT on TTD - you should get a lot of rides in - barring weather or mechanical issues of course. I'd break up the days with some time at Soak City or the beach - it's a nice break from the park. Even a quick dip in the Breaker's pool I find nice. Also some of the must do flats are Power Tower - both drop and shot, Max Air and SkyHawk. These are all great thrill rides. Also don't forget to ride the train full circuit, ride the "buckets" and Giant Wheel, stop by the Barnyard to see the evil turkey and the cute piglets, maybe checkout Luminosity. Also follow @TonyClarkCP - he runs their social media and does tweetups in the park for various prizes - the nice one this year is the 50th Anniversary Blue Streak commemorative coin. -

^ Thanks for the info on the 1 train operation. It was still a quick wait - just a bummer to see that empty train go through - but I could see why it was done - especially with the short ride cycle. Definitely planning another visit up to the park this summer - it's only a little over a 2 hour drive for me. Want to get some night rides on Ravine Flyer 2 and of course XScream. I did see some online pictures of the new lighting package at night and it does look great! -

^ Great write-up and I agree - what a great day! We were lucky enough to hit up the cruise and it was a nice break from a long day. I had to pinch myself throughout the day to believe how awesome a day Cedar Point provided for us! Of course there were some complainers in the bunch (folks - it's all FREE!) but overall met some great people and it's awesome to hear so much coaster talk in lines all day. Can't wait to see how they top it next year!!! -

Oh, after spouting off about GateKeeper Plinko a few times I was curious how many we had stock-piled - 18! My kids - my son especially is waiting for that horribly busy day and he can't wait to bust these out and just walk on all the big ones! Also have some trips planned with friends / family later this summer and we are going to treat them to some of our passes... So, I'll say it again - if you can't do Fast Lane Plus - throw $20 at GateKeeper Plinko!!! (Oh and last year at the end of the night, they moved the plinko board to the main midway - and to entice people to play they added a 4 pack of line skippies!!! So far this has not happened this year - and the workers aren't aware of them doing this again ) -

Mid-August is still peak season - everyone cramming one last getaway before school starts. I can't speak on best hotel or ticket prices as I have a Platinum Pass (and get same 10% off as AAA - which isn't much). But, I believe you can buy your tickets when you check-in or any time before or after at the front desk. So you should be OK waiting on Starlight. You can call and ask to be sure. Early entry is pretty much a must - so staying off-site though cheaper really isn't an option. What I would do is StarLight Sunday and you should be able to walk-on or have short waits on a lot of coasters - GateKeeper / Raptor / Blue Streak / Mantis / Corkscrew / Magnum / Gemini / Mine Ride / Mean Streak. I'd hit them up then get in line for MF before closing to get in one night ride (in the back row ). The park closes at 10 - but the lines will close at 10:08 and they will clear them out - so even if it's an hour or more wait still you can just watch some FunTV in line and inch closer to one of the best rides of your life! For Monday morning I would drive to the main lot and be parked by 8:45AM (at the very latest). Also park towards the left and follow the blue path along Blue Streak to the Marina gate. Tends to be a shorter line and you are closest to MF - you'll also see a lot of the local "single riders" there - which is always interesting. Get on the first train - any seat will do - then get back in line (they may let you right back in if you're lucky) and wait for front row - probably a short 15-20 min wait. Next haul ass down to Maverick - should be really quiet back there - get in a ride in row 1 and again in the last row. Head up to TTD and assuming it's still before 10 - which it should be - there will be a line along the fence until they open the line. Don't forget to throw any bags in a locker first (same w. MF). You should be able to ride within 15-30 mins - if no rollbacks or breakdowns. Now weather and downed rides can play a huge factor on how things pan out - it's not always bad - maybe you'll be by Maverick after it re-opens for an issue - or maybe a storm will roll through late Sunday night and you will have the park to yourself that evening. But if neither of those happen then the above scenario is likely. I'd wait on Fast Lane Plus and see how the crowds are and how much you've got done - I think the only time they ever sold out was last year's opening day. Like I said in an earlier post - GATEKEEPER PLINKO!!! (Beware - MF and Maverick plinko are much "bouncier" and I find the GK one easiest to win since the pucks go down a more straight path) I rather spend $20 and (hopefully) win 4 sets of line skippies and walk right on the big 4. Again - you may win none or 10 - but on average you should win 2 skippies per 5 pucks - which costs $10. But to have a much more relaxed day FL+ is awesome - you have to pay to play - but I think with early entry, a good plan, some line skippies, and some good luck (rides being up / weather) you can still get a lot done. Also follow @TonyClarkCP for a chance to win at one of his (usually) daily tweetups. -

A lot depends on what you want to get done that day - if getting most / all big credits is on your agenda then you pretty much have to splurge for Fast Lane Plus. Trust me if the sun is shining it will be crowded. It is also the unofficial Gay Day that day I believe - not sure how this effects crowds. Also, hotel guests and Platinum Pass holders get early entry at 9 AM - Where rides like MF, Maverick, GateKeeper and Iron Dragon are running. So even if you get in the park at opening there will already be a crowd in there. Assuming you don't have a Platinum Pass you could stay at Breakers Express (which is relatively cheap) so that you could get discount tickets and early entry. You mentioned you are going with a co-woker so this probably won't work for you. If you don't have early entry then you should enter the park through Magnum entrance - just say you are going to Soak City when you enter the parking booth then you can park back there - you can get a jump on the crowd from the front and can get in TTD then Maverick pretty quick (if TTD is running yet). You can sneak out the front entrance later in the day to see how nice the new entrance is and take the obligatory pics. Wait times for MF, TTD and Maverick will most likely be over the 1 hour mark all day - probably longer if it is a gorgeous day. Also TTD has been down with no ETA for when it will be up again. GateKeeper is a people eater - and usually you can get on in under 15 mins later in the day as the crowd moves back into the park. Same w. Raptor. If you just want to check out the park, ride a few rides, etc. then a lot of the lesser coasters are 15 min or less waits - can be 30 mins if there are bigger crowds. The other unknown factor is the fact that the park was closed this weekend due to the water main break - so a lot of folks may return for their make-up trip. Now Sunday evenings tend to be lighter - so if you could somehow stay later the crowds usually start to thin on Sunday nights. Again, I'd need to know what your agenda is and can help you from there. Will you be able to make another trip out before leaving Ohio? Going on a 2nd Sunday you could maybe get in what you missed... I almost forgot - Saturday and Sunday morning's are Millennium Force walk back. Each person must have a current coaster club card - and a photo ID to match the name on the card - you must be at the Marina entrance by 8:50AM - after that you are free to do the other early entry rides! Also it's a good time to wait for a front seat ride on MF as it's usually only a few train wait. You would need to park at the front gate lot - towards the left. Then walk around Blue Streak following the blue pathway outside the park and you will come to the Marina entrance. If you and your co-workers are TPR or another club member this would be your best option - whether you go for Fast Lane or not. Sorry - remembered yet another tip that can help you - assuming Fast Lane is not an option. Spend $20 each and play the GateKeeper Plinko game (trust me don't do the MF or Maverick one's - as they are too "bouncy" - the Gatekeeper pegs are much softer and the chips go down straighter). Every time I've played this year - 5 tries for $10 - I have won at least 2 sets of "line skippies" which gets you front of line access to the big 4 (for a pair of riders) This is even better than Fast Lane Plus - you go in through the exit and get to ride pretty much right away - just can't wait for front seat on some rides. Finally, follow @TonyClarkCP on twitter as he will do a tweetup most likely where you can win things like Fast Lane Plus / line skippies / commemorative coins / free french fries and other cool stuff. -

Stopped by Waldameer on the way up to Canada's Wonderland over Memorial Day weekend - for one reason - to ride Ravine Flyer II - and it was so worth the stop - one of the best woodies I've been on - so much fun start to finish - the beautiful views - the tunnels - 90 degrees! - the airtime - the layout just never stops - oh and did I mention the airtime! We arrived at the park and we could see from the parking lot that Ravine Flyer II was still testing (and the park had been open an hour already) but about time we got in got our Wally Card charged up - and got back to the short line waiting - they opened up the gates! Perfect timing! A few minutes later we were waiting for the front car - then we were off - though they were only running one train - and sending the other through empty. Since the ride is barely over a minute long our wait was only about 5 mins. That hanging moment over the first hill with the breathtaking view of Lake Erie - was just spectacular. Then there was that return trip over the bridge that spans the 4 lane road below - it was airtime like I've never had before - long, strong and amazing!!! I felt weightless for like 3 whole seconds! AMAZING! So many other fun elements and the cool 90 degree bank made for one heck of a ride. Road a few more times in the back and middle - not a bad seat to be found! Did a quick spin on Dragon - nothing really to say about it - it was ok at best. Then off to XScream - my first ARM/Larson drop tower - and my, oh my what a drop!!! Been on tons of drop towers and never had one this exciting - the quick drop - the restraints that never really feel secure - and oh that drop! You swear that you are going to hit the ground and it's not going to stop in time - what a fun little ride! That was it for our day before we headed up to Canada's Wonderland - but we will be back again! -

Finally made it up north to ride Leviathan and check out this great park. What a beautiful park and great assortment of flat rides - though outside of a couple great B&M's I was underwhelmed with the coaster selection - though I did find Thunder Run unique and different. The load times on Leviathan were insane - never seen dispatch times like that anywhere! This was great because it meant lots and lots of rides on this great coaster. It ranked right up there with the other Giga Coasters - though I still prefer the lower seating position of the Intamin's vs the higher center of gravity of the B&M's seats. Really liked Behemoth - though it is what you expect if you've ridden other B&M Hyper's. Also, really loved the mountain / falls - makes for a great park centerpiece. We also got to check out that new ride in the mountain - Wonder Mountain's Guardian. I'd say it was a neat little ride - and if they do change up the video for Halloween and next season that will be great. Seemed a little on the short side - but I really liked the concept. Of course all the crazy flat rides were great - particularly liked Shockwave, Sledge Hammer and Night Mares. Though Sledge Hammer had a lot of down time - not sure if that is normal with this ride or not. And that grassy hillside near WindSeeker? That was so awesome and unexpected in an amusement park - was great to sit in the grass for a while and just relax - this should be mandatory in all parks - really such a minor thing - but most places have used up every square inch to expand - hope the hillside is there to stay. Overall a wonderfully laid out and aesthetic park - I'll be back when they get another great coaster! Here are some pics I took - enjoy! -

Finally got a DSLR and have been out to the park a handful of times - thought I'd share some of my photo's - you can see more here! Also - this is for my own enjoyment - these pics are from snapshots, to artsy, to everywhere in between - most of these are uncropped and untouched - I welcome any helpful tips but not looking for a critique - thanks again and enjoy!
