Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
CNYCoasterguy11 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Usually weekdays, even Fridays are not too bad, the only difference this year may be pent up demand causing larger crowds. I would actually start with Fahrenheit due to its low capacity and then either Storm Runner or Great Bear. Or if when you first get there and Candymonium has a short wait hit that first before lines build up. The rest shouldnt be too bad other than maybe Comet and/or Sooperdooper because they are closer to the front of the park. -

Nobody should be surprised by those wait times, any Saturday in Hershey is a nightmare. That's why I always make sure to visit on a weekday, it's night and day for crowds. And Springtime in the park tends to be busy due to everyone looking for stuff to do in the nice weather. -
I wouldn't really say they have bad coasters outside of Anaconda, but the rest are just sort of ..meh like middle of the road, nothing crazy but nothing amazing either. Avalanche is at least unique but not super thrilling, and the Racer feels generic along with the wild mouse clone. And I don't really count the kid coasters because they are what they are supposed to be. Even adding a 4D free spin wont really make this collection much better. That reminds me of Six Flags New England, they have 2 solid coasters and then fall off the map. Batman and Thunderbolt are the next tier which isnt saying much. Joker, Pandamonium, The Wild Mouse, Flashback, and Goliath are clones and the others are kid coasters.

As much as I like Kings Dominion, ever since removing Volcano they only have 3 real standouts now (i305, Dominator and Twisted Timbers), Outer Limits is good but its a clone technically and can be a little rough at times, the rest are mediocre at best, nothing real terrible (except maybe Anaconda) but nothing amazing, especially when Busch Gardens kills it down the road from them.

https://www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2021/02/ny-amusement-parks-can-reopen-overnight-summer-camps-can-plan-to-cuomo-says.html New York is finally allowing amusement parks to re-open, they are capping them at 33% capacity which seems like what Disney was attempting. I for one am just glad they finally came to their senses and are allowing these outdoor businesses to return. Hopefully Six Flags Members will be able to select dates to reserve since they are requiring pre sold tickets as part of re-opening.

I would love for them to get a Mack Mega coaster like Alpina Blitz at Nigloland, I know it would most likely never happen but something similar in place of Bobsled would be a good size fit for the park. Unfortunately the price would most likely be out of the Six Flags budget especially now. I did hear they may bring back the ride share program which maybe means they bring in a mid level ride from a bigger park to infuse a little excitement for a smaller park like Great Escape. I would be fine with that honestly, at least its something different,

Well then i,m not sure why they have such trouble running it, seems like it is constantly down, I have been on it in years past but most of the time it seems like it breaks down. As much as I enjoy the ride i could still see it leaving, the only reason they wouldn't i could see would be its not a big plot of land that it sits on compared to the space removing the ferris wheel could open up
-
If it isn't the Ferris Wheel being removed, my next guess would be the Condor Ride, It is always breaking down or never running to begin with. in 2019 I was on it and it got going, but before it could start going up it shut down. It is also a ride that i don't believe parts are made for anymore which can also make it expensive to operate. I don't see them removing the Bobsleds unless it was to be replaced with a new coaster as the park already only has 5 major coasters. Most other rides in the park seem safe as they are for the most part well maintained and ridden.

I had that happen a couple of times, but they generally kept a space between so it wasn't an issue, I don't really mind anyways -

When I was there the week after the 4th they were doing every row, one party per row, same for Great Bear. Most others were seating every other row like Comet, Lightning Racer etc. Cupfusion was doing one party per car as well. -

Visited the park for day 1 of our camping trip and was pretty impressed given the situation of things. Originally we weren't visiting Hershey this year but our other plans got scrapped so this was a nice alternative. First off the Campground has been great like always and they are doing a great job with COVID precautions (pool cleanings, limited people in the store etc) and it's pretty vacant compared to last year, we are virtually alone on our side of the park it's awesome. As for the park we did the sweet start which gave me a chance to check out Candymonium. I would say it's a solid ride for the park a good counter to Skyrush but I most definitely prefer Skyrush for the mere intensity. Honestly Candymonium is sort of average at best, it's got so decent floater air but the trims take away from could be more, I also thought the front was actually better which for me is rare. Thea rest of the park was what you would expect with limited staff and COVID precautions. Many rides were closed or temporarily down including several coasters. However we have found plenty to enjoy with very short lines and small crowds. Also most visitors we're good about the mask policy and e even saw some workers making sure people used them. I know that had been an issue early on this season. All the rides are running great and we will be heading back this afternoon. I couldn't ask for more really given the status of everything in the world and I'm just happy to be riding coasters again. -
NY has the most cases and deaths by 2x. What are you talking about "contained"? Im talking as in keeping it from spreading more, yes at first it was bad (mostly because of NYC) but ever since it has been going down and staying down unlike other states that opened early and are now seeing the backlash of what that caused. Compared to those states NY is in a much better position now to re-open

More than likely it's just maintenance issues that normally would be addressed in the off-season but due to COVID they most likely weren't able to finish the work and/or parts couldn't make it to America from wherever they are coming from. It's a shame and SooperDooper is my daughter's favorite but we will still enjoy our visit this year just the same. And Kissing Tower is also closed which is no surprise due to the broken window and the fact it's probably a bad idea to run it with Social Distancing and all. -
I'm not trying to make this political since this is a theme park site but keeping America locked down is not the answer. Waiting for a vaccine is not the answer either(we may never get a vaccine). We have to just be smart about things and let people work for their living instead of paying people $600 extra dollars while unemployed. I'm a work in a local jail and still am expected to work day in and day out but get no compensation for being deemed "essential". Why are the Targets and Walmarts allowed to stay open when the mom and pop stores have to close? Why are they so different that the government feels they can't enact the same policies and rules the big box stores can? People will get sick, many will recover and some will die unfortunately as is life. We don't stop the world for every sickness that comes along, I understand this is a little different but we cannot let fear rule us and need to be smart. We have started to flatten the curve now we need to bring back the economy and let people live their lives.

At this point a new location elsewhere in the park seems like a better alternative and a new theme if they were to do that. It seems strange that they would try to put such a tall ride in the highest elevated section of the park in the first place. Not sure how they will shoe horn this into that space, it will also be sad if they have to remove some of the themed buildings just to fit it in.
-
I know they weren't going to do anything huge this year but to me this is a disappointment. I'm not a DL fanboy either (I love close though), but this park didn't really need more water park additions with the exception of a new children's attraction. I knew they would not get a new coaster but a new flat ride would have sufficed especially with Pirate sitting SBNO all year and then some and many others are starting to age. I also understand that they want to see how the park does for a couple of seasons before truly investing some money here and hopefully they commit to some other smaller beautification projects and updates around the park to improve it's look. I know many will love this ride, I'm just not a huge water park guy is all. At least they got something new
-
This is a great addition, probably the next best thing to a new coaster. It is unique and different and only one other Six Flags Park has one (St. Louis). My guess is it may replace Condor since it has a lot of down time and is an aging ride. They may even renovate that side of Ghost Town to fit it. Can't wait to try it next year I love these crazy flat rides they keep adding.

Canobie Lake Park Discussion Thread
CNYCoasterguy11 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I finally made it to Canobie Lake Park after many failed attempts (for one reason or another) and I have to say that it was a very enjoyable park and pretty much what I thought it would be. It was a beautiful independent park that actually seemed much larger than the map would make it out to be. And rides were spaced out very well including some of the smaller kid rides mixed in as well which is always appreciated. As for coasters they are somewhat underwhelming compared to most parks including many in the same size bracket. Dragon: it's a kiddie Zamperla, not much else. It did have a ridiculously slow loading and unloading though for a kid coaster. 3/10 Corkscrew : Again it's a off the shelf Corkscrew model, nothing special. It was a little smoother than most but not perfect. 5/10 Untamed: Not a bad ride other than a little shuffling and one rough transition into the helix. If it had the newer Eurofighter cars it would be much better. Still a decent ride, but again a off the shelf model. 7/10 Yankee Cannonball : easily the best coaster and one of the best rides in the park. Still not a great Wooden Coaster but for being as old as it is it was fairly smooth, however there wasn't as much air time as I was expecting based on the layout and hills. Also one train made for slightly slow loading. 8/10 Overall the park has a nice collection of flats and classics but nothing really putting them on the map as a destination. Just a really good regional Park. My biggest complaint was the park patrons here, way too much line jumping and rude people pushing and bumping into every one for my likes. I know it's close to Boston so maybe that explains a lot (I'm from Central NY so I have my certain biases lol). Some ride operators were also painfully slow and looked like they could care less about being there. Yet we also saw many who were having tons of fun and were very pleasant. The food we had was average but serviceable. We ate at Sons of Liberty tavern which was unusual that they take your order like a sit down but it's fast like a counter service. I did love the small themed areas like the Old Canobie Village and Colonial Boston section. Overall it was an enjoyable add on to our Maine Vacation but in no means would I drive much more out of my way to get there, I actually think from an overall perspective I liked Santa's Village up North better despite being a more kid friendly park. Who knows maybe of they add a big new coaster we will be back but for now we're good. -
You really think I'm just going to let this go? Are there grocery store enthusiasts? I love Wegmans too but I've never heard of Wegmans Hopping or WegManiacs, as for Seabreeze, its a much nicer park even being smaller. If you do both the waterpark and rides its a good full day park that you can take your time at and not have to worry about massive lines (except the bobsleds of course which are just slow no matter how long it is).

So the family and I decided to use our Six Flags Memberships today and take a ride out to Darien Lake for the first time in about forever. As a reference this is the first time I have been here since Moose on the Loose was added. Honestly for all the negatives I read on the boards we had a pretty good time. Sure a second train on the coasters would be nice but it wasn't really necessary, everything was either a walk-on or station wait. The rides were all running except the usual suspects of Pirate and Corn Popper, and they all felt to have really short cycles. Predator was also down for the day but the rest were all running. I have to say the Rowdys Ridge area is nice and a solid family area, my daughter absolutely loved Moose on the Loose and the other rides nearby. It would be nice to have a better family coaster for those over 42" and under 48" though. Viper was decent, only one head bang and it was after the butterfly inversion not during, I forgot how far the entrance and exit are from each other and how long it takes just to get to the station. Mind Eraser was pretty bad, it shuffled a lot, not necessarily head banging but it was not smooth by any means and appears to be showing its age. Boomerang also is pretty rough even for a boomerang, compared to the one at Great Escape this one is worse, new wheels or not. Didn't bother with Motocoaster as it had the only real line, and tantrum was decent. My only issue is how short it is, but glass smooth none the less and the first drop is pretty good. Ride of Steel is also starting to show its age, its not rough really but it definitely feels shaky, however the lap bars are much better than New Englands version. Either way it's still an incredible coaster and that first drop doesn't disappoint. Overall it was a good day and did almost everything. The one real knock I had with the park is the ridiculously overpriced food and drinks. A slice of pizza for my daughter alone was almost the same as the combo meal with fries. Like how is that even a thing? It was less than a dollar to add fries compared to just a single slice of pizza. And water is way more here than other parks we've been too, Hersheypark was cheaper, and the free water also tasted better than DL's. Other than the overpriced food it was a good day and low crowds despite perfect weather. It's not a bad park, it just could use a little paint and fixing up here and there but it is what it is. If I didn't have a membership to Great Escape I probably wouldn't pay the ticket price for it but it isn't terrible by any means. Just know what you are getting into when you go, Disney it is not, but as far as Six Flags goes it's not that bad.

You shouldn't have much of any wait on a Thursday, the best route is to head to the back of the park first. If Bobsled is operating hit that first as it has the slowest line for the coasters. Then hit up Comet and Supernova in the very back. You can then work your way towards the front hitting up any flats you want and the rest of the coasters. The rest can be done in almost any order really. Nothing else stands out really, but the front has some good flat rides like Greezed Lightning and Sasquatch. You can easily do everything in about 2-3 hours

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread
CNYCoasterguy11 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It certainly seems like Parque Reunidos is a big problem here. It's sad when it looks like Six Flags is a better run operation. I last visited the park in 2012 and loved it, but from the sounds of everything it has only gone down hill. On the other hand Story Land is another Reunidos park that is run very well. We have taken our daughter there a couple times the last few years and loved it. You would think if a small park like that can run efficient and we'll then a park like Lake Compounce should have no trouble. It clearly doesn't seem like Reunidos is making a big difference that they were hoping for. Too bad they can't go back to being independent. -
How long is the ride time on this because I just rode Pandemonium at Great Escape last week and it had a ridiculously short ride cycle. You maybe got 2-3 full rotations while it was at it's most vertical point. Overall it felt like and looked like it maybe lasted 45 seconds from start to finish. Hopefully this is longer being indoors and having a story attached.
