  1. Ha! According to RCDB, only 3 new coasters were opened in 1963 and only 1 is still operating. I've never ridden any of the 3.
  2. As someone mentioned earlier, go camping rather than motels. KOA's aren't necessarily cheap but do always have showers. WIth a bit of a search you can probably find some cheap or even free camping. And at WCB the last couple years, I bring in a 1/2 liter plastic bottle and it just fits in a pocket in my shorts, makes it super easy to drink H2O and fill up at the fountains. Have fun, sounds like a blast.
  3. Yup. I got to ride both Revolution & Colossus the first year they both opened. Revolution is a shadow of it's former glory. I was shocked when I rode it several years back after a long hiatus and it had those horrible OTSRs. Now I'm not sure what is worse, the OTSRs or how slow the ride is with all that braking. I can ride my bike faster than that ride goes these days. Last year at WCB I didn't even bother. Sad what SF has let happen to a historic and once great ride.
  4. A few that come to mind, and definitely show my age... Turn Of The Century Willard's Whizzer Tidal Wave Revolution Colossus Full Throttle The Beast Mean Streak Top Thrill Dragster Maverick
  5. ^^ Ditto ^^ Thanks to Robb, TPR & SFMM for another super WCB! We all had a great time yesterday, the place was a ghost town, if you include a couple trips on Orient Express, we logged 40 rides before we called it about 7:30. Evening ERT was as good as it gets. Multiple rides on Superman, then Tatsu, then X2 sent us off into the night with delirious smiles on our faces!!! Looking forward already to next year!
  6. Man, that's pretty funny. I completely disagree with absolutely everything in your 1st paragraph, but wholeheartedly agree with everything in the second one. I got to ride SoB only one day back when it still had the loop & I loved that thing. I rode it a good dozen times, yes it was a bit rough, but it was fast & intense and just was way better than it's Dad who's but a shadow of his former self. Learn how to ride the Beast? Unless you can learn how to turn off the brakes, the only challenge is staying awake through that snoozefest. And MF is far & above my favorite at CP, nothing else compares for me, but I dig the big 1st drops. Great call on The Bat though, that ride was the best suspended I've ever ridden. And when I get that time machine working right, Crystal Beach is definitely on the list.
  7. Actually $20 each, $69.99. My girl's barely on board at $49, she's not having any at $69.
  8. Looks like SIx Flags is running a Season Pass Sale this Labor Day Weekend for SFDK. Just $49.99 good for the rest of this year & all of 2015, with a free upgrade to the Gold Pass which includes Free Parking. Pass is good at ALL Six Flags parks too! Sounds like a helluva deal but the catch (there's always a catch) is you have to buy 4 passes to get that price. So my girl & I are in, looking for 2 others who want to join up or maybe we can jump on board with your group. PM me. We'll be a WCB at SFMM next weekend and could settle up if you will be too.
  9. Six Flags wanted to take advantage of that Buy 3 Get 1 Free special.
  10. Looks cool to me. I was just surprised to see the 4 across seating, maybe it's a B&M thing but my expectation was MF style.
  11. Just for accuracy, SFMM declined to keep both DejaVu & Psyclone.
  12. Please forgive my impatience, but my girl's been badgering me for a couple months now, trying to make fall plans. I kinda expected "soon" to be less than 6+ weeks, so I'm still wondering, when can we expect those WCB dates?
  13. Dates for last year were announced about this time in Jan. That weekend right after Labor Day is a winner, hoping for the same this year. It'd work perfect as we need to be in Vegas for the bike show Sun night and trying to firm up travel plans. Can we expect the 2014 WCB dates soon?
  14. Sure hope they don't plan on taking out the batting cages.
  15. 50 Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz. I was about 5 and not tall enough, my Dad grabbed the seat of my pants and hoisted me up high enough so we were waved through. It's all his fault, been hooked ever since!
  16. Wow, after just getting back from WCB, I'm surprised to hear all the Apocolypse discontent here. I rode it for the first time ever at WCB last year, 18 months later I thought it was running even better. Everytime that train stopped I was grinning and thinking, "this is the best ride in the park". I would never even consider the word rough in attempting to describe Apocolypse, not sure what you guys are used to riding. We got 6 on it at ERT including the last 3 where we didn't even have to get out of our seats. Apocolypse Rules!
  17. I may know someone looking for a SFMM ticket, will know more in the AM. Hitting the road midday.
  18. I rode X when it first opened but last year at WCB was my first ride on X2 and the new trains as it had been several years. Well it'd been a long time since I got off a ride with wobbly knees but X2 delivered. That was one intense night of ERT! I was most impressed and thought it was riding great! Certainly my favorite ride at SFMM and disappointed it won't be open this year but it is what it is.
  19. Matterhorn for me, late 60s. 2nd would've been Gold Rusher a few years later, back when it was the only coaster at Magic Mtn, pre-SF. Yes, I'm old.
  20. Hey Robb - Best guess, do I still have a couple weeks to buy my tix, I'd like to wait til the billing cycle flips on my cc, or is the SFMM day in danger of selling out before then. Thanks

The exercise, scheduled for Mon., May 13 and sponsored by the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force, will simulate a hazardous condition with multiple causalities during the peak of the park’s summer season, officials said. "On a busy day, attendance at Dorney Park can result in the doubling of our population in South Whitehall," said Jon Hammer, township manager. "We are committed to the well-being and public safety of our long term residents as well as our one-day visitors. This exercise is part of our ongoing proactive approach to ensure that our first responders are prepared and equipped to handle any emergency." Quick Clicks The focus if the drill, officials said, will be on the coordination of key emergency responders, critical decisions, and integration of the multi-jurisdictional assets necessary to save lives and protect the public. "A crisis never occurs when it is convenient, so it is wise that agencies prepare for the inevitable in a proactive manner," said Steven Harper, president, Strategic Crisis Solutions, an emergency preparedness management firm that will conduct and evaluate the exercise. "To that end, we have assembled a diverse team to challenge and stretch the responders in a 'no fault,' win - win environment." Emergency responders will mitigate the fictional crisis, perform crime scene investigations, and provide medical treatment for volunteers playing the role of victims, said officials, adding that as many as 400 people are expected to take part.
  22. Bumpin' up this ancient old thread. Got to ride one of these a couple times back at a county fair in the mid-late 70s. Not too much info out there, but does anyone know if there are any of these still operating, or will be this Summer? Some video:
  23. Wow, amazing day yesterday! Went bell to bell, got 30 rides total, not a bad day's work. Night ERT left a smile on my face all day today, scored 4 awesome X2 rides then sat on Tatsu for 4 more without moving till they shut it down & kicked me off. My sisters ran outta gas and bailed at 8, bummer for them. Got to sleep in this AM before hitting the road, got back to my girl's place in time to walk the dog before dark. Thanks to Robb, Elissa, the whole TPR crew & of course SFMM for a terrific Bash!
  24. Think I gotta taker Sheesh, they're droppin' like flies. Now my niece is bailing cause nearly 2 months isn't advanced notice enough for her to get offa work. So I have an extra ticket for Sat only. PM me if you want it.
