  1. Yeah, I'm with the foreigners on this one. I didn't get to be an enthusiast because of what was overseas, I got to love our parks first, and I still do, even if I am a bit more nit-picky than is necessary One thing I must say as a local; That hotel manager makes me proud to be Aussie, I'm not from overseas, and I always wondered what the hospitality was like for our international visitors. I'm pleased to see that good friendly hospitality is still alive and kicking in my homeland. I'm also Stoked to hear you guys on the trip had a good time down under, and I hope you all come back soon, or at least inspire others to make the trek down. The Gold Coast is only one flight away from LAX after all, We'll still be here Thanks again for all the great POV vids, the photos, and the trip reports! Joz - Proud to be a local
  2. They haven't changed, the back two rows have always had the sidecar. The great thing about them is they have a lower height restriction than the regular seats, so kids who otherwise wouldn't be tall enough to ride can still ride in the side car, which IMHO is one of the best features of the ride. Again, loving the updates, been watching this thread round the clock and it's been well worth it so far!
  3. Apologies Robb, didn't mean to sidetrack the thread. I've really enjoyed these updates so far, hope you enjoy the rest of your time in our fair country, looking forward to the Dreamworld report
  4. ^ Hey I love the Pirates of Paradise song And you gotta admit, the ski shows they had were better than the Pirates Unleashed high dive show! Those who enjoyed that last old school promo vid may also enjoy the other one I uploaded from a few years later:
  5. Yeah, the ride in question is Bermuda Triangle, and it closed permanently at the end of last year. There is an almost identical version in Germany at Movie Park Here's a POV of the Sea World ride a year before it's closure. The finale of the ride used to be a wall of fire at the top of the volcano, but that was replaced with rope lights. Suffice to say the ride towards the end of it's life wasn't in great shape Also I did read earlier in this thread about the Looney Tunes River Ride so here's a POV of that too... Great updates guys, good to see you all having a good time, can't wait to see the rest of the updates!
  6. ^ Seaworld Australia used to be half owned by Warner. Now it's owned totally by Village Roadshow, who also own Warner Brother's Movieworld Australia, and the Wet 'n' Wild parks in Australia, Phoenix and Hawaii. They also own a few attractions in Sydney and an aquarium in New Zealand.
  7. What the article is pointing out is that while Voyage is getting a new train, it's not being advertised as a different new attraction. With Space Mountain they went even further and totally rebuilt it, and was not advertised as a different new attraction. Corkscrew is getting a new train and IS being referred to as a completely new attraction.
  8. While I concede that roughness is different for everyone, Corkscrew isn't now, and never was more rough then Thunderbolt. Given you were 11 at the time Thunderbolt closed I would suggest that maybe you don't remember Thunderbolt well enough, but take it from someone who rode on that thing quite allot, it was much rougher then Corkscrew. Corkscrew, as far as Arrow loopers go (at least compared to the ones I've been on) it is actually very smooth. As for being iconic well I hate to say it, but 99.7 people out of 100 could care less if it's an Arrow off the shelf ride. Its the only one like it in Australia, and since its been there for 27 years, the fact is it has become Iconic. No arguments from me about it being ugly, the new track colour is not working for me at all. I think you're missing the point with this one. The article mentions that when Disney completely rebuilt Space Mountain they didn't advertise Space Mountain as a different attraction. Despite all the new effects, nearly every wall panel being changed and being a totally new coaster, it was still referred to as the same Space Mountain with new effects. Seaworld on the other hand have decided that a new train and a paint job warrants calling the 27 year old ride a "New attraction". Would it help the confusion if I revealed that the article is a bit tongue in cheek about the way the park is choosing to market the new train?
  9. No joke, when I was a kid, we used to have a Sausage Dog that we used to take for a walk in bushland up the road from my place. Well, it didn't get eaten by a Goldern Orb Spider, but it did once pick a fight with a Koala. Needless to say it was a mighty victory to the Koala. Our Dog was fine, so feel free to picture in your mind a Sausage Dog and a Koala at war As for the old Golden Orb Spider: I went to school in the middle of a rainforest valley and they were all over the place. Completely harmless, and in fact you barely ever saw the buggers move, almost always just sitting in their webs, which had an ever so subtle golden tint to them. At our school though we often got Red Belly Black Snakes, and spiders that looked as though they couldn't hold their own weight anymore, so spiders that minded their own business in the webs didn't really worry us On a related side note: Bird Eating Spider And since this is a theme park site... At the park I worked at, radio code for an animal in park was a 10-10, and radio code for a snake was a "10-10 without legs" *edit* wow, first post. Didn't realise I'd been lurking all this time and hadn't posted yet...
