Went to SFMM yesterday (Sunday). Park was not crowded at all (parking lot ended mid-Colossus), but they managed to still force 20-40 minute waits on almost everything because many of the coasters were running SINGLE TRAINS. It really sucks to see such a high number of single train coasters. I wish they would post a list somewhere. Coasters I saw with single trains: Revolution (10 min posted - 20 min actual) Superman (one side open) - 5 min posted - 30 min actual Ninja - 10 min posted - 40 min actual!! Scream Colossus Coasters with 2 trains Apocalypse - Walk-on X2 - 45 min posted - 70 min actual Goliath - 5 min posted - 15 min actual Green Lantern

Mitch Hawker 2011 Wood Coaster Poll!
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Is this poll meaningful when when you have a very small list (say, 3 coasters) with a great coaster at the top and a crappy one at the bottom? I mean, there could be a world of difference between the #1 and #3, but there's no way of expressing it. -
Mitch Hawker 2011 Wood Coaster Poll!

Just want to say, I LOVE the drag and drop version of the ballot. Why would anyone want to use anything else? -
TPR's Universal Hollywood HHN Event!
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was interested until I read "one time entry per house" for the FOTL pass. Is that the direction HHN is going this year, Robb? Prior to this, FOTL has been good for unlimited entries into houses. -
Knott's Haunt Event! Sept 24th, 2011
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb, any chance of a TPR night at other haunts, like Halloween Horror Nights? I know that Sinister Pointe will be doing their own haunt again this year - that would be a great one, and I think it's located near the Empty Grave. -
Knott's Haunt Event! Sept 24th, 2011
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
TPR's Haunt events are without a doubt the best out there. Other sites offer them (Miceage, ThemeParkAdventure) on different nights, but those events don't include lights-on maze walkthrus, panel discussions, or a maze wristband. Last year, the wristband was pretty much a waste since the park was empty, but this year - being on a Saturday - it should be very useful. For those who have never been to the haunt event, know that it includes a full day of fun. Last year we got a walkthru of past of the Mine Ride (nothing like an early morning trip to the old Glory Hole....and then I went to Knott's). Trust Robb when he says there will be great surpsises - he never lets us down. -
Mitch Hawker 2010 poll

Those instructions are way too complex. Why can't this be web-based? I don't have 2 hours to fill out a text based survey that will be thrown out because of a syntax error. -

Robb, One caption where I missed the reference entirely: "We got these awesome wristbands that open our fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo." Translation, please. -
PhotoTR:Old Magic Mountain pictures
hauntguy replied to thrillrider's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
It's funny, but I don't ever remember Psyclone being that jarring, but all my rides were pre-1994. Ghostrider, on the other hand.... I went on that at the WCB 2009 and STILL feel it. That thing should be condemned. Not being a big woodie fan, can you guys let me know what woodies are still standing today that make Ghostrider feel like Montu by comparison? -

If SFMM services Apocalypse in the traditional manner (i.e. pretty much only when a train flies off the track), about how many more years until it feels like Ghostrider? -
Couple of questions: 1) It was announced today that Superman: Escape from Krypton would be opening Mar 19. Can we possibly look forward to ERT? 2) What does it mean that Club TPR members will have "priority" for purchaing event tickets? Non TPR members can buy a guaranteed spot for WCB today, right?

Mike, I'm not sure they are open daily at Christmas - you might want to check the calendar. SFMM is open only weekends for a good part of the year. That said, I'd think the park would be a ghost town between Christmas and New Years. SFMM doesn't get crowd patterns the same way as Disney. If it was a busy day, Six Flags has the Q-bot system to ensure you get on everything - as long as you have the money. So, I just checked the calendar, and the last 2 weeks of December they are pretty much open daily. I don't know if anyone around here has been there during this time and can comment on crowds. Personally, I just don't see people goiong to SFMM during their Christmas break, but they wouldn't be open otherwise... Even so, the hours are 10-6 which doesn't sound like they expect big crowds. William is probably best suited to answer this question.

Knott's Haunt - 2010 Enthusiast Event!
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for this great event, Robb! I was about to buy tickets for "another Halloween Haunt exclusive event" with the other guys (actually there's one group doing it Friday and another doing it Saturday. But this is CLEARLY the one to attend. Can you tell us if TPR is in the process of arranging something with Universal (Hollywood.....or even Orlando?) for HHN? -
Roller Coasters in the RAW on Blu-Ray
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would not be interested because: 1) I do not own a Blu-Ray player and am not getting one anytime soon. 2) I already have most of the DVDs in SD. 3) I really don't need to see parts of Robb's body in HD . In short, if you were to still make the SD DVDs available, then do whatever the heck you wanted. BUT, if you have never before seen footage released only to Blu-Ray, that's not cool. Make it available on some other SD DVD. -

Big props to Robb for organizing this year's WCB! Huge props to William for making the SFMM day so great! And Robb, I agree with you - even though the Mine Ride tour was short, it was a million times better than no tour at all. I was most looking forward to that part of the Knott's trip, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus, I got to tell my wife all about my visit to the Glory Hole. -

Legoland California Discussion Thread
hauntguy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Legoland California already had a pretty large water area. Is this replacing it? EDIT: from the PR, it looks like the water park is going in behind Fun Town, which is a little ways away from Soak-N-Sail and the pirate area. What I don't get is why people would pay a $10 upcharge for that if they can get soaked for free. The water park is nowhere near Legoland entrance, so who knows if you can get in without paying for a Legoland ticket (I suspect not). I'm really impressed that they are going to be able to churn out a water park in 4 months time, but I don't see how it's going to be a sustained draw in this economy with a free mini water-park nearby. -
I voted No for several reasons: 1) As someone who only attends the West Coast Bash events, a "bonus" event probably would not apply to me. 2) I register as fast as possible, and have never been shut out. 3) The $15 credit sounds appealing, but I spend about $20 a year on merchandise anyway. A premium price of $25 with no credit is more appealing. 4) Most importantly - I'd donate if TPR were threatened with extinction. Um...that is to say...I'd donate to SAVE TPR from extinction. Now, if the (now free) video content were moved to premium access only - THAT would make me consider signing up. But be aware, I've signed up in the past to Disney-type sites for premium content. I paid for a year, never really used it, and haven't been back... I log into TPR mainly for the great trip reports, and the occasional video. As much as I appreciate the ad-free status of TPR, I would prefer a few ads over a pay-for-play site. And I really don't dig the "members only" forum. I think that would take away from the overall quality of the site. If you had to do away with one perk, I'd vote for that one.
