Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Maybe I'd be more open to RMC if they didn't tend to have slow dispatch times and they had more comfortable restraints. As of now I enjoy them but I tend to prefer more traditional wooden coasters and nonlooping steel Hyper/giga coasters. -

So 4 coasters are better than 3? well, yeah. But sometimes you have to settle for something more realistic. Candimonium looks very Mako-ish, which isn’t a bad thing... in fact, I think it might look better if only because it’s MCBR-less... one less chance to slow it down! Yes I'll agree but I'll still say something more realistic and better is simply to have GCI redo the ride. I don't like losing wooden coasters to RMC. I enjoy them but I enjoy more traditional wooden coasters more haha. Either way looking forward to trying out Candymonium. -

I get that too but 3 good GCI coasters and an original RMC is better than 2 and a RMC conversion. -

QFT. I'd prefer GCI give it the Ghostrider treatment. I'd hate to lose Wildcat. It has a great layout and lots of potential it just needs some work. -

Do you hate your life? Lol no. I rode once Friday and once Saturday. I just didn't find it to be that bad and have been on much worse. I certainly couldn't ride it multiple times in a row or more than maybe 3x in a day but its not so bad I'd avoid it. I like the layout and still think its a good ride overall. Skyrush also didn't bother me at all this year while previous years my quads were sore for days. -

Well suprisingly between preview night on Friday and Saturbday we got on over 20 rides in 7 hours. Did much better than expected and got on all the coasters including rerides of Skyrush, Storm runner, Wildcat, and did each side of Lightning Racer twice. Fahrenheit was walk on first thing Saturday Morning and Laff Trak was maybe a 5 -10 minute wait right after. Only rides we waited more than 10 minutes for were the Claw (20 min) and Skyrush on a 3rd ride Monday afternoon (45 min). Preview night and being there for opening makes all the difference. -

Yeah plus hope he heat keeps crowds away or a lot in the waterpark or on the water rides. That may be wishful thinking though. -

I expect it to be rough lol. I've been there several times but the person I going with has not but is only able to go Saturday. Not overly concerned about Sidewinder but have never been on laff track or Fahrenheit. I'm hoping he is available tomorrow night and maybe get Comet and Great bear out of the way and hit Fahrenheit first thing Saturday. -

I'm going to Hershey this Saturday (and possibly a few hours tomorrow night for preview night). Any idea what to expect crowd wise and and any hints on how to plan the day to get on every coaster? The weather forecast currently says it will be 95 and mostly Sunny so not sure if that will keep some crowds away and others in the waterpark. -
Front Seat Vs. Back Seat Coasters.
JayB18 replied to Physical's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is a hard question. I generally prefer the more sudden intense jerk and onset of airtime as you crest a hill in the front on rides known for ejector air like superman ROS or El Toro than the more gradual onset in the back. The first drops are almost always better in the back though and sometimes the feeling of being pulled over hills is just as fun. B&M hypers I usually prefer in the back because the airtime is more gentle and floaty. I enjoy the almost freefall sensation going down hills in the back more than the gentle lift cresting hills in the front. Wooden coasters are a toss up a lot of the time for me. -
Hershey Park June 2013
JayB18 replied to kickflipbacktail's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be going to Hershey again on Aug. 24th and 25th. Skyrush in my opinion is a great ride with some insane forces but it doesn't compare to something like El Toro, Millenium Force or Bizarro/Superman for the being a completer package mostly due to the short ride time and compact layout. I prefer longer more spread out coasters with a nice mix of intense forces and moments to catch your breath put in as well. I also generally prefer sustained airtime as well whether its ejector or floater and Skyrush's airtime isn't very sustained. Skyrush is still a top ride though and I can see why someone could prefer it to others. As far as Millenium Force goes its a front of the train ride if you want airtime. First drop is better in the back but the 2 larger airtime hills only really deliver toward the front since the back goes over so slowly in comparison. The hop next to the station is good anywhere. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JayB18 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was at Cedar Point for the first time on Friday June 7th and had a great time. I rode 22 rides including the 14 adult coasters as well as maxair, windseeker, and Cedar Downs Racing Derby and shoot the rapids. Got 3 rides on millenium force and 2 on Mean streak, Magnum XL 200, and Gemini. Every other coaster I rode once. Never waited more than maybe 25-30 minutes minus when millenium force went down and Maverick added new trains. We got there at 9:00am and basically worked our way from the back of the park to the front. Overall it was a fantastic day as I was worried about crowds going in but ended up getting on everything I wanted and then some. Overall a nice park with a good collection of rides that could use a really good wooden coaster. Park was clean, run very well and the staff were very enthusiastic. I still believe Hersheypark, Busch Gardens, Dollywood, Knoebels, and Kennywood are better overall parks though. Ill rate the coasters as follows. Millenium Force: 9/10 First ride in the back was disappointing and offered almost no airtime on the 2 large hills and a small pop on the bunny hill. First drop was good but not quite as good as I305. It also didn't feel as fast as I305 for some reason. My second and third rides were in the front and much better. Amazing sustained floater throughout the hills and a nice shot of ejector on the buny hill at the end. The ride seemed much faster as well. Not sure if it sped up throughout the day or the front just gives a better ride but the second and third ride put it in my top 5 steel. I'd need to ride I305 again to compare but I like the intensity of I305 and the layout and restraints on MF. Gatekeeper: 8/10 Superior and more intense than Wild Eagle but just like that ride the restraints are too tight on my chest at the end. At least I didn't have trouble breathing like I did on Wild Eagle. That wasn't fun Top Thrill Dragster: 9/10 Short but sweet. The smoother ride and lapbars made this more enjoyable than Kingda Ka. The airtime on my ride was incredible but I'm sure this varies depending on how fast it travels over the tophat. Maverick: 7/10. With I305 restraints this would easily be a 9/10 but the need to ride defensively took some enjoyment out of it unfortunately. I wasn't able to just enjoy the ride like I wanted too. Magnum XL 200: 9/10 Better than Steel Force and some great airtime. Throws you around a bit and some jerky transitions but thats part of the fun. The airtime did not hurt my thighs like some people claim. Mean Streak: 6/10 After reading reviews I was expecting this to be almost unbearable but I've ridden much worse. Not bad but not great either. Raptor: 8/10 One of my favorite inverted coasters. That helix toward the end was INTENSE. Blue Streak 7/10 Nice airtime and a classic feel. Gemini: 8/10 Fun racing coaster. Corkscrew: 3/10 Ugh too tall for this ride. Painful restraints and too short. Least favorite ride of the day Mantis: 4/10 Not a fan of standups Wicked Twisted: 8/10 First ride of its kind that Ive ridden. Surprisingly fun. Iron Dragon: 7/10 Not as fun as Top Gum or Big Bad Wolf. Cedar Creek Mine ride: 6/10 -
Stayin there got early access and $34 tickets. Other hotels in the area are mostly more or less the same price.

Breakers express is only about 300 for 2 nights. Breakers is about 540 but I'm not staying there. I'd be willing to do fast lane but the 2 others I'm goin with are not so that's out unfortunately. I also may be goin on friday now instead but don't know for sure yet.

I will be going to Cedar Point for the first time on Saturday June 8th. I hate the idea of going on a Saturday but that is my only option for my cousin. I'm not purchasing a fast lane pass but I'm wondering if it is a good idea to stay at the breakers express and get early access to the park. How much can I get done in the one hour and what should I aim to do in that time. Also when the park opens is there a good way to do the park in order to minimize waiting in lines? I'm guessing everyone will be going to Gatekeeper fist since it is new and at the entrance. Thanks.

I had my hands up during my 1st ride. The 5 other times I rode I was holding on to the grab bars the entire time. Something I didn't mention was that I really liked that they were trying to fill all seats. They were sending single riders with groups of 3 and trying to get 2 groups of 2 together so the empty seat issue they originally had seems to be resolved. -

Just got back. Ended up riding Skyrush 6 times and waited 15-20 minutes most of the time. The new restraints didn't bother me much but after 3 rides I started to feel some discomfort but nothing bad. Honestly El Toro's restraints caused me more discomfort and even they didn't bother me. Still plenty of people were complaining about how much their legs and thighs hurt so who knows if there will be any more modifications after this. First drop in the back seat is my favorite first drop on any ride due to the sudden and unexpected pull to 85 degreeswwhich is a total OMG moment. The negative gs on the hills are similar to El Toro, maybe a bit stronger or weaker. I do remember El Toro's transition to negative gs being more sudden if that makes sense. The turns before and after the 3rd hill felt very shaky which was somewhat annoying but I had a headache so I probably noticed it more than I would have otherwise. Finally it was a bit short but it did feel like a complete ride. Overall great ride though with a nice mix of intense positive, negative, and lateral gs. It joins my top 5 steel which include I305, Phantom's Revenge, SROS/Bizarro, and Nitro which I have no idea the order other than Bizarro is number 1 and Nitro is number 5. Still haven't ridden Fahrenheit since I didn't feel like waiting for it instead of hitting Skyrush again. Lightning Racer was a bit more skaky than I remember but again that could have been my headache bothering me. Storm Runner was fun as usual and remains my favorite launched coaster. -

Going to Hersheypark tomorrow for the first time in at least 5 years. Can't wait to try Skyrush and Fahrenheit. Does anyone know if the restraints on the second train of Skyrush are currently being modified or if it is already done? -

So if the ride OPS stop stapling, which is probably unnecessary, then it may fix the entire issue. -

The only thing I see people complaining about is the restraints, not the intensity. If the restraints are causing discomfort and pain, then it is a valid complaint. I don't think they are going to trim it because that is not going to fix the problem with the restraints and I don't think it is chewing through wheels/causing greyouts like I305 was. I think they will wait until the off season to do anything to the restraints if they even do at all. From the videos I have seen most seem to be cheering and clapping when returning to the station. -

And this is pretty much exactly the reason why you see a lot fewer Intamin's in the US. People keep wanting a Mega-Lite in the USA, and I guarantee you the moment one opens, you'll have stupid Americans bitching about it. Keep 'em in Europe and Asia where they belong. Just like the Zac Spin. That ride doesn't belong in America. --Robb "Americans want boring B&M with floater airtime... They can't handle anything extreme." Alvey I wonder how many of the GP who are complaining have never ridden something with strong sustained intamin ejector before like El Toro or Bizarro. They may be over exaggerating and simply not prepared for the ride. -

More so the restraints than the airtime. I don't think anyone is complaining about airtime. Really? Give me an effing break. You people complain about OTSRs, you complain about lap bars, you complain about seat belts. Here's an idea - STFU and be happy you got a really kick A$$ roller coaster! Or, hey! Maybe you'd rather them add more trims! That's a GREAT IDEA! HERSHEYPARK!!! I KNOW YOU ARE READING THIS FORUM!!! PLEASE APPEASE THE COMPLAINING IDIOTS AND ADD MORE TRIMS TO SKYRUSH BECAUSE THERE PEOPLE WHO ARE BIG PUSSIES AND CAN'T HANDLE AIRTIME!!! MORE TRIMS PLEASE!!! MORE TRIMS!!!! --Robb "Seriously, stop posting to TPR if you're going to complain about idiotic things." Alvey I don't know if that was directed at me but I was not personally complaining about the restraints. I was just pointing out that some of the GP were and that it wasn't enjoyable as a result. Painful restraints be it a lap bar or over the shoulder restraint is a legit complaint imo if it prevents someone from enjoying a ride. If enough complain they might do something about it which is why I asked about the general reaction to the ride. Im worried they would take the easy way out and add more trims too. Me Id take a bit of thigh pain over trims any day. If they can improve the comfort of the restraints (without changing them to over the shoulder) like they did with I305 then thats even better.
