The Official TPR Update Thread!
FirstDropJ replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember a couple of years ago we went to WDW for my parent 50th Wedding Anniversary my sister mentioned we were coming for their anniversary when she booked the trip. When we checked into the resort they were in our welcome packets. I had no idea they would get any sort of special treatment for wearing them. We made reservation for the Winne the Pooh character lunch at the Crystal Palace and when Pooh came around they got their photo taken and a special mickey frame for the photo. The only other special thing they got was at the American Experience show in Epcot before the show started my mom was brought up to the front (my dad is in a wheelchair so he could no go up) of the theater and got to talk to Mickey on the phone and when the show ended the cast member took them next door to the restaurant and announced to the whole place that it was Joe and Shirley's 50th wedding anniversary and gave them a mini apple pie! They were a little embarrassed but they loved it. Mostly people were a little shocked that two people managed to stay married for 50 years! -
Made it out to SFGAm on Saturday for the first time in a couple of years. I was there for the out in the park event (gay day). It was a good deal $35 got you parking and entry into the park and at 9pm the GP had to leave and we got the park to ourselves until 1am. Other the the hour of rain we had from 9pm until 10 it was a really good time. Most of the coasters we walk on's with the exception of Raging Bull and Xflight. I don't if if it was a combination of the rain and the dark but it felt like most of the rides were flying around the track! I was not sure what to expect with Xflight after reading some of the reviews but I thought is was really fun. I rode in the front right and I thought the ride had great pacing and a nice mix of elements in a compact layout. I can't wait to get to Cedar Point next year to ride Gate Keeper.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
FirstDropJ replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I came across this on another site and thought it was a cool concept. It is a new way to design a 4D coaster and in my opinion looks like a great solution and would save a lot of $ in material costs. WOW...it is nice to see they have the steam train running...in the past they brought it out only on very crowded summer weekends.

The family has been fighting over the park since the late 80’s when I worked there. At the time the park was run by all three siblings Glenn (the oldest), Ron and Cathy. Rumor has it there were differences on how to run the Park. Glenn wanted to expand and make it more thrilling but the other two wanted to keep it kiddie oriented. So there ended up being some sort of big family fight and Glenn decided to sell/get rid of his interest in the park and left it to Ron and Cathy to run. It mentions in some of the other posts about the family land trust which the park sits on is run by the oldest brother Glenn and I believe the mother who sided with Glenn in the dispute. Since then I think Glenn has been trying to find a way to shut the park down on his siblings. Keeping it kiddie was probably the smart thing to do being that the park is basically in the city (it is just a couple of miles west of Chicago). To bring in thrill rides would open it up to the teen and up market and all the problems that go along with that crowd which can be a lot in a urban area like Chicago. Also I am pretty sure the land trust also includes the go cart track and the old driving range.

Flamingo Land Discussion Thread
FirstDropJ replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Flamingo Land has posted a new youtube video interview. They answer a bunch of questions about the ride and you can see they pretty much have all the supports up and the lift hill installed. -

Nürburgring launched coaster
FirstDropJ replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like the new rendering. The windshield does not look like it will interfere too much. After seeing some photos of the track being put in place and the new rendering I am kind of excited to see the finished coaster.
