I dunno about standard travel channel, but on Travel HD on Directv, it was only available at 4pm pacific, not 7 [maybe it was 4 and 7 eastern time?] Luckily I have an iPhone with the Directv app so I can set my DVR from anywhere [like work where I am now], I caught it 5 minutes in, but better than missing it! Looking forward to checking it out! [wow, that sounded like a commercial, definitely not intentional]

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured... well it's not my money, and only a $10 difference from the online tix... and the twicket for the 2nd day will be good also, thanks... AAAND, thats awesome info about the school start dates... looks like we may get pretty lucky on the 23/24th with low crowds. Thank you mucho!!

Quick question, I don't have my season pass coupon book with me right now... I am going down with 2 friends on the 23rd and 24th of august. I have one coupon for $25 admission that will work on those days, but another friend has a season pass book also, and can give me his coupon, but I don't know if they need to see 2 season passes to use 2 coupons? I guess I could try calling the park [anyone have a number directly to guest relations?] but maybe someone here knows... thanks.

Are you serious? Have you been to Knotts? Do you read Theme Park Review? It seems like it needs new land with the new coasters being crammed in (Tatsu, Terminator, Green Lantern) though it still has a lot of land such as a huge plot of land between the enterance of the park and X2/Viper. OMG lets PLEASE PLEASE not get into this "they don't have room for another coaster, they need more land" debate again... such a tired topic on this thread. I feel a drop tower is highly likely for next season as well, considering the reclaiming of the most coasters in a park crown, and 3 "new" coasters this season, what other high thrill ride is there? A giant pendulum maybe but that seems... weak for SFMM... I am really hoping for a gyro drop, considering we don't have ANY in the western states, and they could easily build the tallest in the US... that would be pretty sweet.

it is simply amazing how DIFFERENT coaster experiences can VARY person to person... I hate to say it but my last experience on Kong this last may was HANDS DOWN the roughest experience I have ever had on any roller coaster, including most woodies. It's hard to compare though being inverted, but really the only things that come to mind is maybe grizzly before the rehab and ghost rider... even then though... I guess I can admit that scream CAN be rough... FOR a B&M. But that to me is like saying Apocalypse or Giant Dipper can be smooth... for a woodie. To change the topic a little bit... I am planning a trip down with 2 co-workers who haven't been to the park in 5-10 years, never ridden X2 [or X]. We are planning to go 2 days during the week of August 22-26... I was thinking Tues/Wed, or Wed/Thurs... Does anyone have any input on crowd expectations that week, and those days in specific? The hours are only 10:30-6, and I am hoping we can hit all the coasters and a few water rides and other flats over 2 days without a flash pass.... obtainable goal?

I honestly don't think scream is rough at all. I mean, compared to say viper, demon [CGA], or even flight deck or god forbid we mention Kong at SFDK [bTW I rode it on my last visit back in may, and that will be the LAST time I ride that excuse for a coaster, at least until it gets an overhaul].... anyway, compared to those it is quite smooth. I do like Medusa, but I must say that Scream is my favorite floorless on the west coast. Always an entertaining ride... sometimes forcefull, but almost always smooth in my book, and I actually like the front seat...

I hate to be like this, but this delay pisses me off too. I live up in the bay area, and my buddy and me planned and got time off work to go Mon/Tues June 27/28. Now it's too late to change our request off work, and neither of us will have enough money for another trip until late summer/early fall... but we REALLY wanted to ride GL. I guess we just have to chalk it up to lesson learned or something... but I just thought since the announcement of opening on the 17th was made with less than a month before it, and that was significantly after the original estimated opening, we would be safe... ugh...

I would have to say Kingda Ka at six flags great adventure in new jersey, or its brother top thrill dragster at cedar point, are up there, amazing experiences... well I cant speak about TTD personally, but it is almost identical so... I really really want to get out to Cedar Point someday soon, though realistically it would probably be a year or so away...

Hey, it looks like I may end up going to the "coasters after dark" day by myself, my other friend who bought a season pass will likely have to work... if so, who on here wants to meet up to ride together? I don't really like going by myself, but if some TPR folks want to have a "meet" and hang out and ride stuff together that would be pretty cool. I was recently going through their ride list and realized that I don't have the credit for boomerang, cobra, or even tony hawk i mean pandemonium, as well as most of the flat rides like hammerhead, voodoo, and taz... I have only been there like 4 or so times in the last 10 years... but I hope to make a few trips up this season with my six flags season pass... so, whos down for an un-official TPR meet for the event?

Well I searched back at least a year and unless there is a REALLY old thread, I could not find another SFDK discussion thread?? So, I was hoping this could be the beginning of one... Has anyone noticed this "Coasters After Dark" event happening on Friday, May 27, 2011? It makes me laugh because it lists the time as 6-8pm, which on may 27th is certainly not "after dark"... maybe as the sun goes down, but it won't really be dark till 8:30 that day most likely. But one thing that's cool is that they say it will be the opening of the sky screamer: "Coasters After Dark is the exclusive Season Pass holder evening event in celebration of the opening of the new SkyScreamer! Season Pass holders with a valid 2011 Season Pass are eligible for this after hours special event. Coasters After Dark will take place on Friday, May 27, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Oasis Plaza area of the park. Enjoy SkyScreamer - the newest tower thrill sensation - along with your favorite thrill coasters - Medusa, Kong and Cobra - for an evening you'll want to remember! " -from the discover kingdom website. Does this mean that will be the day the ride opens? Or will it be officially open on Saturday and pass-holders get an exclusive first ride? That would be awesome, but unlikely.... anyway, mods if there is already an "official" SFDK thread, feel free to move this, but I could not find one...

GAH, I'm understanding how Rob feels now with how crazy this board can get with one little snipet of info, especially if its miss-construed. Ok so everyone understands: HAPPY HOUR AT EMBASSY IS FREE BUT REQUIRES A ROOM KEY! So, if you are not staying there, don't expect to be able to take advantage. However, if you decide to get a room there, there is a nightly "managers reception" from 5:30 to 7:30 that typically means a few beer selections, maybe wine, maybe a mixed drink or 2 depending, and some hours d'oeuvres. The room rate also includes a fully cooked to order breakfast [usually custom omelets]. So if it's in your budget, it's kind of nice. But the Hilton Garden Inn is pretty descent, I have stayed there a few times and no real issues. This will be my first stay at the Embassy in Valencia. Anyway, I am down for a small simple get-together Friday night for dinner or just chit-chat, who else?
-
well how much earlier? I was figuring most people would be going later, so that was my latest time, but heading down earlier would be ok too. I am taking advantage of my benefits as a hilton employee, so I am staying at the Embassy Suites, and they have a happy hour that I plan on enjoying at that time of evening, so that was really the only reason why.... anyway... maybe we should take this to PM... hit me up if you wanna cruise down together
-
HEY! is anyone driving down from the bay area Friday afternoon? Wanna caravan? I would offer to carpool but (1) my fiance is driving and (2) we won't be coming back until the following Friday [vacation in san diego after]... BUUUT, it would be cool/fun to caravan with other TPR'ers if you are planning on going down around the same time. I want to be in Valencia by 5-6pm on Friday. Let me know here, or PM. If anyone really needs a ride one-way we can see what we can work out. ^ZeroG, that sucks bro. There's always next year, and you want to be sure you make a good and speedy recovery, so you can go ride green lantern when it opens! Heh. We'll have fun for you bro.

five weeks is tooo long!!!!! Darnell and I CANT WAIT for this... and, I'm super excited because I finally got my fiance to come, even if its only to the knotts day [because she doesn't ride big coasters, which is just about all SFMM has] Can't wait! oh yea, I second what beachkidboy said... this group is pretty awesome and you WILL make friends.
-
lol, no i get that... i was just trying to feel out how serious everyone was about the possibility that would really happen, as it seems pretty unlikely to me. I have no idea what to speculate would go there, but I for one hope it is a descent thrill ride, even if it's not a coaster... maybe a dark ride, simulator.... oooor, maybe a launched compact coaster? we will see....
