Take a bobsleigh ride!
Mickey_079 replied to Mickey_079's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is completely optional, however that quote is in our safety video! Riders don't get to steer and for a good reason too, the sleds can easily tip over as they have a higher center of gravity than the actual race sleds. If the sled tips at any stage you will STILL make it to the finish line. But don't worry, our pilots have never tipped with the public, only with staff. There aren't really any "greyout" spots, I think because you are in and out of the corners so quickly! I will hopefully have a few more videos to come including the view from the pilots helmet. Glad you guys are enjoying them. -
Hey all! I have traveled from Australia to Canada for a second season to work at Winsport Canada (also known as Canada Olympic Park) in Calgary. We have a Public Bobsleigh program where public can actually ride down the bobsleigh track, as part of my job I actually get to ride the bob if it isn't full. I thought I would share with all of you how it looks! The first time I rode I expected it to kind of be like a roller coaster. Wow was I wrong! It's very rough, but at the same time very smooth. The g force is nothing like I have ever experienced. The first few times you ride your head literally gets pushed down into your chest! There are 14 corners, which you experience 5gs TWICE, you hit speeds up to 125kmph (77mph) and travel 1.5km (0.93 miles) in 62 seconds! Here are the videos! [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] This isn't me, however it is the riders first time. As you can see their head gets pushed down in the corners. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] This is me on my 6th run. 2nd man position is a lot smoother and you don't get thrown around nearly as much. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] Again this is me in 4th man position. This would have been my 8th run on the track, if you compare it to the first video you will notice I don't get thrown around as much and my head isn't pushed down by the forces.

TPR's Official Australia Trip Update Thread!
Mickey_079 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ That's a beetroot. I know, I was joking before sort of stating how serious the attacks have gotten this year. Sorry if it looked as though I was attacking you in anyway. Looks like you guys are having a blast! -
TPR's Official Australia Trip Update Thread!
Mickey_079 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Aww thats not a shark. This summer Newcastle beach got closed down 3 times because of great whites, Catho at Swansea got closed down 6 times. This is the worst time of the year to swim in our oceans, all the great whites come in shore to feed on the bait fish.... wow what does this have to do TPR!? Anyway still can't believe you guys have finally come to Australia!! Should have hit up Draculas restaurant while you were on the gold coast!! -
Thanks for you help. You gave me EXACTLY what I wanted and needed to know. I've already been to Memphis (flew in for a day to see Gracelands then flew out). It isn't a major stop, my girlfriend just wanted to see it if it was on the way. Unfortunatly I can't do the trip back to the other side as we are going north and stopping off at Washington DC, NYC and then to Canada to go boarding and see Niagra Falls. We actually wanna see a fair bit on the east coast, as mentioned places like Grand Canyon, San Fran, Vegas and also head into Tijuana for a day, it's been about 12 years since I've been in Mexico... cheap Corona's!! Back in 2008 we caught buses, but didn't visit as many places, so would bus be the way to go or would driving be better? The let down with the bus was we couldn't stay as long at SFMM and Knott's at night.

Hey, Myself and 3 other friends are planning a trip to the US of Awesome and just need some help or a few hints. We plan to stay at Anaheim for a week, then Vegas for 3 nights and then head over to Orlando. We wanted to road trip cross country rather than fly just so we can experience a bit of the country and not just major tourist attractions. My question/s are: How long would the trip take roughly if you take Route I-40 (to stop in at Memphis)? Is the drive hard, hazardous, easy, road conditions, easy for an Aussie to navigate on? Would you actually recommend this for 3 people who have never visited the state's before (I've been before but uh I still wouldn't know my way around). I just basically need some advice and tips on travelling across the country, even tips on locations to visit would be recommended (obvious parks already covered). I would REALLY appreciate it!! THANKS!!!

Loving these updates Rob. Thanks. But you think Blue Fall is big... you still need to experience the Giant Drop... -
Track Spottings!
Mickey_079 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The way dreamworld is going adding all these up charge attractions and letting original rides fade away, I doubt it. However I did hear this rumor at least three times back in 07 from a few of the staff, but I mean they haven't even started stage three extensions on White Water World yet. I think 09 is going to be a quiet one for Australia. -
I remember seeing the exact same guy doing the "gator wrestling" when I did my everglades tour. It was fairly impressive, he even tough the crocodiles things which is far more impressive.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Mickey_079 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Isn't the terminator futuristic? And aren't woodies suppose to have a more um.. 'classic' or 'vintage' look and feel to them? Seems to me like Six flags added 2 and 2 together and ended up with 5 instead of 4. -

Wild West Falls at Movie World, as soon as you leave the station you go under a little wooden bridge, there is alot of gum. -
Hello Well as you can see I'm new to these forums, well sort of, I have been reading for a long time and thought it was time to join in on the conversations. So here is a little bit about me... My name is Michael, I am an Aussie and proud and I live in a little country town called Cessnock - see the link - Boring Place I am 18, I am still at school and don't really have a local park, I did until Wonderland in Sydney closed, now I have to take a plane trip to Queensland to go to our major parks. I am planning to take an infamous Theme Park Review trip next year when schooling is complete and cannot WAIT to meet some new friends. My favourite park I have visited at the moment would definitely be Magic Mountain. And now something un-coaster related...hmm... I own a white car
