  1. But yeah, it's good to see that Hershey's not just outright chopping them down.
  2. Wow, that guy has some pretty ambitious patent on his IP page. Hopefully everything works out for him but I don't get where people are coming from saying that it won't be possible...
  3. I search but didn't find anything so hopefully this isn't a topic yet. Mine was about 3 years of nothing. I broke the ice with Comet at Hersheypark followed by Storm Runner. Let's just say that was a rude wake call (in a good way )
  4. 1) A coaster with multiple "more than vertical" drops. Maybe not on a gigantic scale, but it would be pretty awesome to have that stomach-out-of-your-mouth feeling more than once. 2) Coaster cars that, at certain points pre-set points on the track, have seats that slide sideways. Nothing crazy but the cars could have platforms that slide out to the right and left and certain points. This could be awesome if properly themed and landscaped to give riders near collision experiences. 3) Coaster with multiple high speed launches? I have no clue if this one is possible though. Basically, share your ideas as to some cool (realistic) elements you think would be awesome on a roller coaster.
  5. I try to avoid using the flash pass systems but I don't completely hate it either. But it's just wrong when >50% of a roller coaster train is loaded with flash pass users. I think the flash pass system really comes down to how the park chooses to manage it.
  6. I know there is a help topic but I'm just looking for an overall tutorial on how to build. I have played RCT3 before but I just need a tutorial to explain the functions/interface to me, I don't really have a specific question.
  7. 3 rides on Fahrenheit must've been awesome. Nice TR. I prefer Storm Runner because honestly, everything is just so unexpected and the launch is just so intense every time. I think what would be awesome for Hersheypark would be a mega-lite. It's not terribly intimidating and looks like it would be tons of fun. I mean, something like MF rising way above everything in the middle of the park doesn't really work imo. On the topic of the Jonas Brother, what really ticks me off is how they pass off their music as "rock." If anyone saw the new Target commercial, poor, poor, poor Beatles must be turning in their graves right now.
  8. Thanks for the responses guys. I don't think the cobra roll argument works for most coasters but it may work specifically for Hydra, depending on how you define inversion (courtesy of rcdb) I guess if you consider an inversion to be when you are "completely upside-down," then I can see where goatdan is coming from. But this is just nitpicking; if an inclined loop is considered an inversion (or even inclined dive loop) then it more than qualifies, imo. Am I the only one who wants to see a more-than-vertical drop from a greater height than we already have? The drops on Fahrenheit and Maverick are both pretty intense but I'd love to see what it would be like going from a height of 200+ ft.
  9. Just wondering how everyone's Hersheypark trip was? Hmm...I went on a Monday and got there around 12 pm, went to the Chocolate Factory, ate lunch, then started the rides at around 1/1:30. We were able to finish almost everything by 5 pm, which was insane. Storm Runner had around a 15 min. wait at 2pm. SooperDooperLooper and Great Bear waited until evening since there was a storm that shut everything down for an hour. Longest lines were Comet and Great Bear which were around 40 mins. each. I had a night ride on Fahrenheit as for the last ride of the day. And yeah, LR makes me sad that Lightning wins almost every time. I saw at least 7 trains come back before I got on (we were coordinating getting on the same train with friends) and Lightning won every single time .
  10. English Literature U.S. History Statistics Chemistry II Physics I Symphony Orchestra Loaded schedule unfortunately
  11. Call me insane or whatever but whenever my sleeping schedule gets really screwed up I simply stay up the entire night and into the next day then go to bed at a decently early time and get a huge amount of sleep in. Always works for me if I can pull it off. I'm not a huge coffee person anyways. But sometimes I just drop dead asleep - any creative ways of stopping yourself from falling asleep?
  12. So Steel Hawg's first drop is 120 degrees and rcdb classifies it as an inversion (3 inversions listed but I can only see 2). Does that mean the first drop isn't really classified as a drop? I'm just curious because I went to Hersheypark the other day and the tram driver was saying how Fahrenheit has the steepest drop of any roller coaster in the United States. I'm guessing they're just mistaken...
  13. Hahaha, but back to the original post, I think by MHR he might've meant Maximum Height Restriction...? The only thing I can think of that fits.
  14. I say congrats to Michael Phelps but can we please, please, please see something other than swimming now? I have mostly been watching NBC's primetime (which loves to air events 20 hours later) and all I have really seen so far are gymnastics and swimming and a bit of volleyball, with a little bit of diving here and there. @_@
  15. Incredible Hulk - seven inversions. Sadly I cannot remember all of the other B&Ms that I've been on with 7, but I know there's more.
  16. Under the multi-inversion coaster, is there actually a 12-inversion coaster in existence or are they just saying that they can make one? RCDB link? I've never been on any of them but the quadruple heartline thing seems to be there just because they needed a ton of inversions. I wish I had the chance to ride the mega-lite too.
  17. I didn't have time to read the entire topic but aren't B&M and Intamin the manufacturers. Nevertheless, my vote goes to Intamin. I think B&M puts out rides that are predictable in most cases but insanely fun. Uniques one like Incredible Hulk and Dueling Dragons are always a plus. But I think Intamin puts out rides that are not only insanely fun, but also creative and unpredictable. To me, both offer very smooth rides as well.
  18. For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to be an engineer. I have two years of high school left ad during the coming school year, I will be seriously looking at colleges and universities. Being a roller coaster engineer would be awesome Is there anything that I can do right now, or in the near future, that would give me some insight as to what being a roller coaster engineer would be like? I know around here where I live, it's possible for high school students to get internships with local politicians. But I doubt I would be able to get an internship with an engineering firm as I'm pretty sure I'm too young and lack experience in the field. Since I'm on the topic of college anyways, I figure I'll ask: How is IIT (Illinois Institute ofTechnology)? I've been dreaming about going to MIT for a while now and I've heard either that it's a great school or that it's overrated. At any rate, I seriously doubt I would be able to make it in so I need to consider my other options. I don't do a ton of stuff outside of school but I usually do some community service with some school clubs and I participate in a few youth orchestra, which I guess could work to my advantage as it would show that I can do stuff other than just math and science.
  19. Exactly. The only way the Chinese girls qualify if you count the fact that their combined ages comes out to 16.
  20. ***Olympics spoilers for those who did not see it yet. Did anybody see this? This has to be one of the most intense moments I've ever seen and I was on edge the entire time. I'm happy that the U.S. was able to pull it off and beat them when more pressure was added on. Lezak did an absolutely superb job coming back at the very end. I was so upset I was about to turn the TV off but I have honestly never shouted this loud in my life at a television set.
  21. I only read a few of the posts but here is my take on the situation. I've been to SF Great Adventure, New England, and Darien Lake. Darien lake was a really long time ago so I don't remember too much but at the other two parks, the environment is generally unfriendly and I actually feel unsafe in the park. This partly has to do with the crowd that the parks attract. Contrary to how "family friendly" Shapiro wants to make the SF, the park guests were basically either obnoxious teens or equally obnoxious adults I'm sorry to say. On just about every ride I went on, security would catch at least one group of people cutting in line. The ride ops in general basically do everything but pay attention to their ride. Talking on their phones, eating, etc. Makes me feel really unsafe when they do the harness checks. Before they build anymore rides, they need to focus on training the ride ops and staff and enforce the rules more. However, I concede that SF can't really control the demographics of the areas surrounding SF parks.
  22. Thanks for the replies guys. Actually, plans might be changing. My father is the one driving and my mom is coming along too. My brother and a friend are coming and I'm bringing 2 friends so every seat in the car is filled. I wanted to bring a 3rd friend but there's no room in the car. My father basically wants me to go ahead and just bring the 3rd person and either me or my brother would just not wear a seatbelt. Not squishy in the least but still, no seatbelt. I'm nervous about this in case we get stopped or something we might just have 4 people. Also, I'm coming from Long Island, Ny for the person that asked. It is around a 3 1/2 - 4 hour trip and we plan to leave around 7 am.
  23. Hey all. I will be going there on Aug 11 (Monday). I've been to Hershey numerous times before but never on a weekday. Are lines typically shorter on weekdays? We're making a 3 1/2 hour drive down from NY and I'm just curious how long of a wait we'll be having. Is SR's line better now? I went late August during opening year and the line went out of the queue area (I spent more time outside of the queue area actually). I'm assuming it's gotten better now. And is Fahrenheit worth it? I'm going to be riding stuff with a group of 3 so there will basically always be an odd man out (except on stuff like Great Bear) but I heard that you're forced to go on the single riders line and it's no fun splitting up I heard the capacity wasn't too great either...?
