  1. Outlaw Run was closed today (at least up until around 4:30pm when I left the park ) not sure it ever opened if anyone is planning on heading to the park this weekend. Crowds were still very light - I overheard a ticket taker commenting how she hadn't seen a season so slow in many years.

  3. If you believe its wooden then here you go. First 300+ ft with a partial above ground/deep tunnel drop with an incorporated fire element. It's why it's going to be announced so soon because it's literally going to take that long to tunnel and construct.
  4. There is an excessively abundant amount of straight up bitching in this thread, even for a roller coaster enthusiast website. I don't mind complaining, in fact it's a favorite past time of mine. Granted we all know this park does have is fair share of issues but the complaints have turned to whining and have become uninspired and just downright DULL. It's now a chore to actually find a relevant post these days. I feel like its become a sort of competition among posters as to who can find the most banal minutia about this park to moan about. AND THEN PROCEED TO BEAT IT TO DEATH. I mean a ROOF?? its just a goddamn roof for Christ's sake. I might suggest editing the title of this 3300 page threat to something more appropriate - maybe include the phrase "bandwagon bitchfest"? Just a suggestion.
  5. It's Intamin all the way. B&M stopped innovating as of May 2nd, 1992. At this point, nearly all of their coasters are formulaic and uninspired. Can't blame them for achieving perfection in a few areas of design and milking it for all their worth. Flawlessly engineered? Yes. Aesthetically pleasing? Quite. Safe and reliable? Without question. B&M coasters are all of these things, but so is the toaster oven that's been sitting on my kitchen counter for the last 10 years. Still gets the job done but I got bored of it after the first couple pieces of toast.
  6. Weight (mass) has nothing to do with the rate or speed at which an object falls. I'd say the sensation is different on DoD because of the lapbar restraints. The old horse-collar restraints on older generations allowed your body to move vertically at bit more relative to the gondola so you felt that initial plunge a bit more. Also if you compare to the S&S towers the reason those rides feel so much more tame is because they are not true freefall drops. On those rides the gondolas are permanently attached to the cables which creats a lot more drag and a totally different and more "controlled" free-fall sensation. Will
  7. If anyone is looking to unload a Knott's day ticket, I'm in the market... Will
  8. If anyone needs to drop out of the Knott's day and wants to unload a ticket PM me! Thanks
  9. Whats a better day to be at this park in terms of crowds Friday or Saturday (Aug 16 or 17) Thanks!
  10. Got a couple questions for my brothers to the north. I'm going to take a little road trip up the coast to finally check out DK and GA next weekend along with a little SCBB. My question is which rides have single rider lines, and which park is better to do Friday and which on Saturday? I know it'll be crowded - but I'm thinking rolling solo will ease the pain a little bit as long as there are enough rides with single rider lines. I'll break down and get a "I'm have money and I'm special" pass but only if its REALLY necessary... If anyone is interested in meeting up, I'm a 30 year old dude who loves riding after a few beers, and I limit my coaster geekiness to socially acceptable levels. I was originally going to roll up with my old man but a whiplash injury has sidelined him this go 'round. Any other advice would be great as I've never been to either park. Cheers guys and gals and thanks in advance!
  11. Welcome to the SFMM Discussion Thread! You just kinda gotta get used to doing this as you browse endless pages of and The park really isn't as bad as the tone around here suggests lately. Shockingly some of actually enjoy our visits these days and can appreciate how fortunate we are to have a park that has 18 coasters open year round and manages to keep them all open now. Bandwagon humor is the best kind - so much fun to see the same 'joke' over and over, I never tire of it! ...which reminds me that I haven't see a stilt-walker photo in the last few pages. Wes, you're losing your touch - I neverthought that one would get old!
  12. I can understand Silverwood, but I'm not seeing Michigan's Adventure or Great Escape as must-do destination parks... Am I missing something? Also it's less of a road trip and more of 'I can live on the road' so the actual planning of the route is not nearly as important as just know what parks I need to hit as an amusement park/coaster enthusiast.
  13. Hmmm Yankeeman and Metsfan are agreeing on something? Wild
  14. So you would say that Wooden Warrior and HellCat are notable enough to get their home parks on the list? I'm not arguing; I've been following coasters and theme parks for a long time and have never even heard of those parks or rides... (or at least I don't recall them) Honestly I was iffy about even putting Olympus on the list. Its been a LONG time since I've been there, and I've heard their coasters have not held up so great. And yes, Conneaut was included for purely historical purposes.
  15. ^ Agreed. Admittedly it is an tremendously ambitious plan but the road trip is part of the experience. I wouldn't be heading out to just hit amusement parks, and I have the freedom (no family, work from home/road) and the resources ($) to maybe pull it off and to even live in certain cities/regions for 1-2 months at a time. Ideally I'd like to focus on the Northeast, PA in particular, or the South. I've never been to the East coast outside of a couple days in Savannah, and I've already been to a few parks on the list, Cali parks, Cedar Point, SFGA to name a couple. *edit, you cut out the second half of your post as I was writing this... ** double edit, I should say that my starting point would most likely be SoCal - but your points remain valid
  16. ^^ never said I was going to them all But I am in the fortunate position to be able to work from the road so it might actually be possible. I just wanted a nice list to be able to choose maybe 10-15 from realistically ^already been there, but added
  17. Hey all, I'm in the very early planning stage of a decent road trip and wanted to make sure I don't drive by a great park forgetting it exists only to kick myself when I get home. I guess this could also serve as a good list for Must-See parks, historically significant parks, or even small parks with a Must-Ride coaster. Please add or subtract as you feel necessary, I know I included a few parks that might not be worthy for various reasons. Explanations are helpful as well and would be appreciated. (Disney and Universal parks omitted on purpose) Thanks! 18. well lets hurry up and get through them. Unlike most other examples this one takes up a lot of real estate.
  19. Anyone know the song from that video? Shazam pulled up like 3 different EDM/Electronica songs that weren't it. (such a diverse musical genre)
  20. Every review/reaction I have read to this point has been positive. I think there are many, myself included, who don't see the loop stall as being a negative - quite the opposite in fact. And you literally answered your own question right before you asked it. That being said, can someone please remind me why I even responded to this?
  21. We get it, you hate Magic Mountain. Stop pissing on our picnic.
  22. You must be new here. We managed to burn up a good 2 pages just yammering about the video being sideways, you don't think this group has the ability to turn out a good 5 pages discussing launch speed or ride sound or braking dynamics? HA. Believe me there will be endless speculation and armchair physics calculations coming very shortly... (and don't think I didn't see what you did there )
  23. That's probably because its an 11 second video that only a fraction of a fraction of their attended population will end up watching let along caring about. It's not a very impressive clip and even if it was shot by James Cameron in Mega IMAX-5D widescreen from a helicopter I still probably would have only watched it once. If they had hired a professional camera crew we'd all be outraged about what a waste of money it was and they should have spent it on some other mundane nuance like repainting that little square on S in the superman plaza. Put me in the "this will suffice" category. Let's nor forget that when the park wants to do it right, they . Now would someone please go to the park and take a video so we can move on to actually discussing the ride instead of this nonsense?
