That promo video is awesome. It reminds me a lot of the promo and commercial for the return of Disneyland's Space Mountain. Is it also a SFMM TV commercial in the local area? If it isn't, it should be. On another note, are there any solid rumblings yet about what the 2009 coaster addition may be? --Mech "Counting the days until we're back at SFMM in late June." anic

Backyard Rides
Mechanic replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That looks like it could kill you. -
The hall of fame wall is a great idea. I think a picture showing the winner receiving their prize would really encourage more people to play. On the subject of food, does anyone know if they plan to add any more sit-down restaurants along the lines of Mooseburger lodge? Our group ate there during WCB and we really enjoyed it. I understand there was once an Asian themed restaurant up on Samurai summit that was supposedly very good. Why did it close, and is it likely that it may re-open?

I visit parks with my wife and 3 kids (2 young teens and 1 tween) and occasionally the kid's aunts and/or uncles. By no means are we hard core "enthusiasts", but we do enjoy theme parks. We've been taking a visit to SFMM as a family at least once each year since '03. I've got to tell you that honestly, had I not known about some of the flat rides being removed because I'd read about it here, I doubt that I'd have noticed anything except Free Fall missing. I believe it's even less likely that my wife or kids would have noticed. All of us however, have noticed the improved park operations, cleanliness and maintenance. I like the direction the park is headed. I've seen more than enough so far from the new management team that I don't have any reservations about placing my trust in them to continue doing what's "right" for the park. If that means removing some flat rides to facilitate the greater plan, then so be it. Oh, and sorry if I came across poorly with the "craptacular" remark about the X2 video on the official site. I can appreciate that some people would like to see that footage, (as Jay mentioned) and I probably shouldn't have been so rude with my comment. It's just that it looked like something I'd have shot, and I know that I'm not any good at shooting video. I'll definitely check out any new video(s) when they're available.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Updates

Wouldn't even a temporary installation of a coaster that size be bolted down? Not that I'm saying THBS is a temporary installation, I'm just saying... -
Season Of Disney on Travel Channel

^ That sounds like it could be a really useful episode. I'm definitely marking that one down on the calender. Thanks for posting. -
Nice update Jahan. We're looking forward to summer vacation so we can stop in for a day at SFMM on our way heading further south to bribe some mouse into letting us hang out with him and his pals for a few days. WCB was a major turning point in my opinion of the park and I really can't wait to get back for another visit. In all likelihood, we'll stop in again our way back home as well. It really is great to see the park looking so good. By the way, the picture of the Revolution train a few posts up looks great. It seems that every time I check in on this thread there's something being spruced up. Keep up the great work!

What's wrong with Knott's?
Mechanic replied to Fredlv1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This issue seems to be one of perspective to at least some degree. I've only visited the CF KBF so I lack the perspective of many that preferred the park at some earlier time. Our family has enjoyed KBF and we will likely continue to visit the park. Other than Perilous Plunge being closed every time we've been there, I've always been satisfied with our visits. A few years ago, I'd have said I liked KBF better than SFMM if asked. That has changed however. Hopefully CF will feel some of that pressure and push to improve as well. -
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Updates

Nice pics with very vivid colors. It's good to see that track has arrived for THBS. I'll have to plan a visit here in the next week or 2. Our only visit to SFDK this season was to process our passes on the way to WCB and we only rode a couple coasters then got on the road. Just curious, how were operations? -
Let's Learn about the Matterhorn!
Mechanic replied to Alpenguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can clearly see coaster track in the picture that you posted, so I think it's safe to say that track was indeed installed while they built the mountain. In any event, it is still an amazing structure and ride after all these years. This is a great thread and I look forward to reading more and seeing more pictures. -
Robb & Jahan Go To White Castle
Mechanic replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thread got me interested enough in White Castle that I took a look at their website. I'll have to try one (or 10) someday if I get the chance. I'll also have to remind myself to have some Rolaids handy from the looks of the cooking process. -

I'm missing something... If these things are barely edible and wrench your guts like people say, then how does the chain stay in business? -
Japan was closed? Bummer.

Age: Over the hill. It shows near my user icon anyway... Middle Name: Danger. Actually it's Patrick, but Danger sounds cooler. Pet Peeve: Rude people. Color of your bathroom: Eggshell upstairs, some goofy electric blue downstairs. The wife got the electric blue on sale at Lowes because someone had the color mixed and then didn't like it. I can't imagine why! Best Movie of ALL time: I have a few favorites, but I never get tired of watching Forrest Gump so I guess that's my favorite. Best Song of ALL time: Comfortably numb. Best TV Shows: Currently: Lost... EVER: Leave it to Beaver. Favorite Band/Artist: Pink Floyd. Favorite Ride at Disney Parks: POTC at Disneyland. Yummiest Ice Cream: Orange Sherbert. If you could eat lunch with one person, who would it be: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones... Who would I eat for lunch: I can't really think of anyone for some reason. Morning Person or Night Person: Night person Pets: 2 dogs (sisters from the same litter) that are a mix of black Labrador and Dachsund... So yeah, imagine a 1/4 size black lab with short little legs and you've pretty much got the mental picture. We also have a tabby cat. Favorite Color: Toss up between green and blue. Where you would go for fun (not an amusement park): Las Vegas. Coke or Pepsi: Diet Pepsi. Opinion about Peanut Butter and Jelly: I'm ok with it, but not a huge fan. Best Vacation Spot: DLR Cook or Go Out: Go out. Beach, Desert, or Mountains: Mountains.

Let's Learn about the Matterhorn!
Mechanic replied to Alpenguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I remember riding the Matterhorn back when the interior structure was all visible. Nice original post and a great you tube video link. Watching that old school look at Disneyland really reminds me of so many things that haven't changed and why I still like the place so much. -

Absolutely fabulous pictures! You have a great eye for getting good shots. Almost every picture there is something I'd ordinarily expect to see on a postcard or coffee table book I'd buy at the park. Seeing those makes me want to visit DLP even more than I already do. I really enjoy the TR pictures from many different members here, but I must say that those are among the best I've seen. Keep up the great work.
