Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
gatorchomp83 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am aware, yes. Geographically-speaking, when looking at a map, Virginia is not the south (my discretion, at least). However, its not very Northern, either. So what exactly is it, then? And if there's no sweet tea (as one poster said, and one debunked) then it's DEFINITELY not the south. As far as Team Thriller's comments on the announcement. That's a bit extreme, eh? To each his own, but wow...I don't think it looks terribly good, but ANYTHING is better than a Boomerang! -

^Virginia is hardly the south. I hope the restraints aren't uncomfortable...however, they are the only reason Maverick isn't in my top 5. I got karate-chopped repeatedly by them on my two rides. Hopefully the transitions are spread out and smooth on this, because I can't even begin to imagine being slammed into the harness ala-Maverick, but at 90mph. Other than that, it looks sort of like an oversized Mega-Lite to me, as well. Hopefully its a good ride. -
Timber Falls / Mt Olympus August 18
gatorchomp83 replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kara and I went to the Dells about a week and a half ago (my first time) and had a blast. The Timber Falls deal is disappointing, as I was expecting to ride Avalanche and absurd amount of times, but the positive is that we knew beforehand. We went last Sunday luckily, as Monday we went back to get more rides on Avalanche and it was closed for the day. We rode Hades about 7 times over two days, with our average wait about 45min. I loved it. I never thought anything would ever even come close to Voyage for me, but this was definitely close. However, riding in the back row on the left by myself for one ride, I literally got bent in half in the tunnel over the seat divider on the return trip. It was far from enjoyable, and was honestly the first time I've been hurt on a coaster. The night ride later, however, redeemed it for me. Were the tunnel lights on or off? -

This ride looks AMAZING! What would be even better is if they had it open for night time ERT during Holiwood Nights next year. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
gatorchomp83 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While it's gonna be nice for KD and Carowinds to both be getting hypers/gigas, it doesn't really make sense to me. Both red, but essentially the same "type" of ride. Both from the same company, on the same cost, and not TERRIBLY far from each other. Once again, not complaining at all, but you'd think they'd debut these two rides in separate years, no? -

My guess would be a sky ride. With it stretching from one end of the park to the other (possibly with multiple destinations) it could easily be almost as long as Voyage, which would qualify it as the "second largest ride" in their history... -

Most Intense B&M!
gatorchomp83 replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Out of all the B&M's I've ridden, these would be my top 3: 1. Batman SFStL 2. Kumba 3. Raptor To me, those are consistently intense throughout the entire ride. Other coasters have very intense moments (ie-Manta's pretzel loop is, IMO, the most intense B&M element I've experienced), but those three offer a whole course of ass-kicking. -
There was a really good article published today in the Orlando Sentinel discussing Rockit's delays, and the positive impact of Manta's early opening. Here's a clipping: The full article can be found here: New Universal coaster spinning its wheels Pretty interesting article. I agree that Rockit looks like it's going to be a LOT of fun, but they are trying SO many new technologies on it that, IMO, its bound to have loads of downtime. Once it all comes together, however, it should be a great ride!

^Wildfire is in your Top 5, as well, hater. And "perk up?" On Wednesday you said we were a disgrace for rating it #1. I believe you also said Rob could go "have fun" visiting the park with me since you won't go back. And besides, mine and Rob's tastes are the same, considering we both have Goliath, Nitro, Kumba and Manta in our top 10 steel. What's in yours? Mystery Mine? Avatar? Whose tastes should be questioned? Your public display of opinion is vastly different than that of what you were saying a couple days ago.

PTR: Dania Beach 5/31/09

Finally remembered to comment on this. Hurricane had some insane pops of air, notably on the second, third, fourth and last hills, but the ride overall was rough and "shifty." The trip, however, was a good time! Especially for Todd and Rob who slept on the whole ride back. Thanks for that, guys. -
