What's New for 2011? Rides/attractions
bluea61 replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Adventure Island at Southend (UK) are getting a new ride called G-Force, what is going to be is unknown but it is on the website. Who said the British Seaside Resort was dead! -

Best British costers
bluea61 replied to Shadow1095's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Steels have to be either Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe or Jubilee Odyssey at Fantasy Island. I like Alton's Nemesis but I don't think its my favourite. Wood will always be Megafobia. Although the Blackpool Mouse is excellent. -

We were over on the IOW on Saturday, and we also did Sandham Rides. There was a group of us riding the coaster and riding the super polished Astroglide. Maybe we saw you. -

It's funny I thought the picture looked familiar and its actually one from Air taken from the RCDB: RCDB Link Would Sea World rip images from there to use? -

Shane's Amusement Attic
bluea61 replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looking at both the pictures I don't think they are the same. The Bat trains look more square, where as the Bat head is higher up on the Vampire. The new trains are standard Vekoma Swing Trains, Picture Here -

Just another Arrow/Chessington link, I've heard that the trains were re-used on the Vampire. Can anyone confirm? The Vampire was a great ride in its day, just a shame the original Bat cars could not be replaced. I always feel the new Vekoma ones just don't run as smooth. They seem to jolt a little round the track, but that said it still is a lot of fun. -
We recently did a backstage tour at Alton Towers and one of the guys running it used to work as the ride supervisor/team leader on the Vampire at Chessington. He said that they were considering putting in an Arrow Pipeline but the risk assessment came back saying that people with long hair may get it caught in the wheels.

I was just making a point of this not being a copy really. Dragons Fury is the better of the two IMO. -

I think this is a great looking investment for Thorpe Park. Its nice to see that they haven't just put in a Spinning Maurer Sohne like Alton's last coaster which is what usually happens. Its a unique custom ride which will impress 99% of the people who ride it. Like has been said already, who of the regular visitors to Thorpe Park has ever heard of Dollywood? Lets be more positive, we could have ended up with a small Dive Machine with no height or another Air. Don't get me wrong Air is great but it is it's uniqueness that makes it a winner for Alton. If they copied it at Thorpe you lose that. I for one am excited and will look forward to riding this fun looking coaster. I think the drop and roll in the station building looks great, and a dive loop -
I heard that the boat around the lagoon at IOA was supposed to be just a boat tour but too many people used it as a means to get from one side of the park to the other. I don't ever remember the boat tour at AK, any ideas why it was scrapped? And finally the Dragons rumours were mentioned on Wikipedia: Link If you scroll down to the Trivia section the first one talks about the dragons and the links with IOA.

Lower Airfare to Europe
bluea61 replied to carolinacaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is the case for Flybe: Cabin Baggage - 10kg Max Hold Baggage - 23kg for Economy, 30kg for Premium Economy Hold charged at £3.00/$6.00 in advance or £6.00/$12.00 on the day per piece per sector. (Not sure what per sector means) -
Q's at Thorpe, Alton Towers and Blackpool PB?
bluea61 replied to Sperious's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Try and get there early about 30-45mins before opening and try and park in the 4-6 row from the front in the gravelled area. This will help you get out as this is roughly in line with the exit row. Queues will probably be ok on a Sunday in September, but try to hit NI early as it is usually walkon for a few rights at the start of the day as most head to Stealth and Vortex (Mainly as its the first ride you come to). -
Lower Airfare to Europe
bluea61 replied to carolinacaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The British Airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet allow one big piece of Hand Lugguage and then you pay per bag if you want one in the hold. Its something along those lines. Its also true with Flybe another no frills airline. -
Height Limit Horror Story
bluea61 replied to hbclarendon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can sympathise with you, and I also understand limits are there for a reason. The argument I would have is that say on a sit down surely the only real measurement that matters is waist to top of head. If that is within said prescribed limit than there will be no problems as long as the restraint closes to an acceptable level. I'm 6'7'' and for all everyone knows i could have 6 foot legs and a 7" body which would make me look rather stupid, but as long as the restraint closed then I doubt I'm going to take my head out on anything, which surely would be the risk. Its a difficult case to argue, but I do think that more park websites should advertise upper limits. For example Alton Towers do not but they have limits on Ripsaw and Spinball. I also think that special seats should be made for tall people like they are for larger people. Not to add too much more to a long post but the Safari Skyway monorail at Chessington has a max height of 1.95m!! Why?
