Most Overrated coaster?
Snoopy replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Big Bad Wolf...I think I enjoyed ID more 2. Alpenguist...lathargic, I got bored inbetween elements 3. Raging Bull...too many trims and not enough forces -
I did get the feeling you could hit the handrail on the first turnaround if you tried hard enough but I did not try. I do think this is a top ten coaster for me. There are tons of airtime moments and several were pretty good but not great. I think this beats Legend for sure...better pacing and more air. If the air gets stronger it should be better than Avalanche and Hades too...maybe even Thunderhead.

TPR Valleyfair Meet THIS SUNDAY!!!

Sorry I missed most of you there. I met the group at 9:30 but Robb was not there yet. I brought a nonenthusiast friend who was scared of several rides and had a different idea of what a day at the park should be like so we went our seperate ways. At times I would see you guys when we were in line or you were but never at a good time to say hi. I hope you all had a good time, we sure did. I thought Renegade was running faster and I was getting more air. -

It sounds like you got faster rides than we did opening day. Hopefully it will be that fast by Coaster Craze. Also keep in mind that I think I got fast rides on Thunderhead when I was there. It was raining and they eventually shut it down. The explanation I got was it was hitting the brake run too hard. If that was true, then I was getting the fastest runs they allow explaining all the great air I got. -

Millennium Flyers do have two flaws: first they can staple you mid-ride, and second they do reject a lot more riders for size. While on many steel coasters your butt and legs are the issue being more unfriendly to women, MF's is more of a gut issue being more unfriendly to men. Second, I thought this ride had a lot of airtime. I have not been on Rumbler so I cannot compare it, but just picture a lot of light floater air throughout. It is enough to come off your seat but certainly not ejector or even "stand up" air. There is plenty of it however and it should get stronger as the season goes on. Keep in mind this coaster has only been rolling 8 days and some woodies that open with no air become airtime machines later so we will have to wait and see. -

I just got back from the park. I got 7 rides on Renegade 3 back, 2 front, second and third seats. First let me say this is not as good as Thunderhead. There is air throughout the ride but it is all light floater air. It is just strong enough to be considered good air, but just barely. However there is a lot of it. The constant action and changing forces is a great thing about this ride. It is always doing something and there are no dull parts. The ride picked up speed throughout the day and was certainly better at close. It is also a little on the short side, but not too bad. It is certainly the best ride in the park and may make the bottom half of my top ten woodies somewhere when I have more time to think about it and ride it. I also anticipate the air getting better throughout the season as so many other woodies have in the past. Maybe then I will rank it higher. -

Coasters do tend to warm up throughout the day, but also as they get broken in throughout the season and in the heat. If it is warming up good now I can't wait till August. -

He asked me on the phone if I knew anyone who rode it and the only report I had read of someone who had was your post so I took him to it over the phone and he got your email from the first post. I am glad he got ahold of you for his story since he could not wait for others to ride before the park opened. See you Sunday. Dave -

Well the park is closing at 6 both days this weekend so night rides are out for now, but I will be sure to get one in ASAP. I loved Thunderhead and was saying back when this first came out that I thought this had of lot of that coaster plus more air. I can't wait to ride and Pam and I will see you there on Sunday. Dave -

I am planning on being there both Sat and Sun and meeting up sounds like fun. I will send you an email with my number just in case you need it. If the rumor is true that some GCI folks are saying this is better than Thunderhead, I am sure I won't get bored all weekend. See you there! Dave -

Good point. If it is not a coaster in "your book", then I guess you should know since you did write a book. I guess Renegade will suck after all. Thanks for sharing your info. -

SV is a shuttle coaster and it is the same size as most of the other ones. WT was built a little bigger just so CP could claim another world record, but most of the impulse shuttles are clones. -

VF has an inverted coaster. As for how the GP will react; they will react much better than they would for anything B&M could build for 6.5 million. Wood coasters are making a come back. They are becomming popular again at a time when the price of steel is skyrocketing. It is not a bad thing since a great woodie is tons of fun. You just have to give them a chance instead of only allowing yourself to be wowed by height and inversions. At a park that has a low ceiling, a woodie is one of the better ways to maximize your thrill factor. In my opinion, Renegade looks like it has the potential to be one of the best coasters CF has ever built, even at CP. -

I don't see how evaluating the videos is pointless. If they are 100% accurate is really not an issue. They are always close, and we can recognize what they are trying to do based on what that company has done before. Of course you always have to ride the ride to be sure the product will deliver as intended, but I think you can get a pretty good idea of intent by looking at how the park and manufacturer chose to represent the ride both in words and animation as well as the manufacturer's history. My evaluation is they are going for a Thunderhead-like ride with a tad less turns and a tad more air. They could fail, but that is my take on what they are trying to achieve. -

Okay, let me try to narrate this POV so you can see where all the air is. Noticing all the air on a GCII can be tough unless you have experienced it in person before because GCII just does it a little different. On the first drop, I guess it is possible to have some type of pop in the back, but I am not counting this element as it really looks more positive g-ish to me. However Thunderheads first drop surprised me so I guess this one could too. Then you go into the long float second hill. This should be a few seconds of air and it looks similar to the long float hill on Thunderhead going by the station, only on Renegade it is longer and faster at this point. On Thunderhead they had a way of sort of flattening out the top of the long float hill and having it work beautifully and this looks similar. Then you have the turnaround. The drop out of it looks like a nice pop of air that is similar to elements all over Thunderhead. It will not be long air but you are going fast and it is a nice transition out of the laterals. Next is a long straight bunny, just good old fashioned fast airtime. Then you have an s-curve. The exit of each of those two curves could have a light sensation or small air but possibly not as well. The crest into the next turn could possibly pop the front cars of the train. And then the exit of that turn is similar to the exit of the first turnaround and very reminiscent of Thunderhead air. Next is a long turn to the right that should be airless. That is followed by another fast airtime filled bunny. Then after a quick turn to the left you have a larger airtime camel back. That should be a long float. After that you have a crest into a banked turn to the left. A small pop in the front of the train is possible but not too likely here. It might be a rainy day airtime moment. Then you have the station fly-though airtime bunny. Unlike Thunderhead’s fly-though, this one will be good for the riders as well as the watchers. That is followed by a quick turn right and then another airtime bunny twisting back left. Another small hill/turn after that twisting left may or may not give a very small pop. And finally the last crest into the final brake run may or may not be a small pop. Of course I don’t know for sure if all these elements will work as I described them, but I do know similar elements worked that way on Thunderhead when I was there and I would suspect GCII can do it again. I would hope the ride would be like what I described on its fast days and it would be even better if it were always like that. -

I may be missing something here but when I went on Thunderhead I was constantly leaving my seat. After watching the POV and other videos of Renegade all day, I think this ride will have somewhere between 8-12 airtime moments which is about as much as you have on Thunderhead. However on Thunderhead there is only one long sustained float while Renegade has several. In my opinion this ride has the potential to be an airtime machine and it does not sacrifice any twisting. Anytime you are not up off your seat you are changing direction. It just has more straight parts than Thunderhead due to longer straight floats which is the only thing Thunderhead lacked. I am so happy with the decision of VF and CF for my home park. This is way better than I ever expected for VF. -
If most airtime means quantity, then long coasters with tons of airtime hills would have the most. The Voyage should have that title for now. When I first rode it back during HoliWood Nights it had tons of air. Some was great and some was just okay. I went back over Labor Day weekend and that ride is a lot faster now. Every element that could possibly have air has very high quality air now and the train just flys for the entire 6,442 feet. It has as much air as you can possibly pack into a coaster that long. The only coaster longer than it with several airtime hills that I can see in pictures is SD2K, but I don't think I will be riding that any time soon to compare. As for The Voyage, it went from the best coaster I had ever been on early this season, to pretty damn close to perfect by the end of the season. I honestly don't know how they could make that ride significantly better at this point and that is the only coaster I have been on that I can say that about.

I have seen the stacks described in the Screamscape entry. You can only get a good view of it from Power Tower and whatever it is, it is covered in white, but it does look to be several stacks of wood back there. As for pics, I do live close enough to go on a weekly basis if needed, but there really is nothing to legally photograph. There are a few stakes and paint markers inside the park, but the real stuff is wayyy out of the way. -
Don't block the entrance to a queue while your group decides if and when they are going to ride. Don't wait till you get to the front of a food service line to start to look at the menue. (this applies outside the park as well) If you are an adult with no kids, don't try to ride the kiddie coaster. Don't bring loose articles into the park. Seriously, this is a park, not a safari. You don't need a backpack. Don't step on the coaster seat as you exit.

This ride is going to kick so much ass they'll have to import donkeys from South America to meet the demand. -

I saw the POV right after it was posted and I am still in shock. They took the best parts of the best coasters in the world and added a triple down. Holy crap the ride goes underground 8 times! They are designing it to have 24.2 seconds of airtime which is insane, but you have to wait and see how that works out. If it does, this will be the best wooden coaster ever. -
I was looking for an answer to this question, and I found the thread but not the answer. Is this an animal or a Democrat thing?
