The first couple of Intamin Rapids Rides where riddled with problems, most of them steming from the channel going from lakes and then narrowing into the rapid channels. The boats would always get jammed and sometimes even get stuck in the currents that would not let the rafts exit the lakes. I still see huge lines for Roaring Rapids at Magic Mountain, it is still very popular there. Rapid Rides really are a unique ride that are a cool (pun intended) attraction at any park. I do prefer the originals better than the newer style rides, except for the Disney and Universal versions, those rock! -

Six Flags Great Adventure: The Roaring Rapid years Here is a look back at Six Flags Great Adventure stuff. I have in this update the press kit from the year Roaring Rapids debuted at the park. There is plenty of other good things also like park facts, press photos, brochures, postcards and an early souvenir book. I hope you enjoy this look back at the park when Lightnin' Loops and Rolling Thunder ruled the coaster line up. -Shane Lets get things started off with some video footage from those early years (sorry Robb for using youtube, I will try to get it uploaded to coastertube soon) They might have some clearance issues with this ride I am still trying to figure out how this block system would work???? sexy centerfold an early souvenir book look at the park such a beautiful site...interlocking loops, my favorite upside down elements The ride was later renamed Congo Rapids Finally the real thing more of AstroWorld's Thunder River disguised as Roaring Rapids a look back at the park thru postcards a different version The park map after Roaring Rapids The park map before Roaring Rapids under construction more facts Rolling Thunder Nothing better looking that two trains travelling at the same time thru interlocking loops! Do parks still have pet kennels???? uh-oh...the Haunted Castle 1981: the facts and nothing but the facts These people actually didn't drive any further that Houston, TX While this is actually Thunder River at AstroWorld, it gives you an idea of what the ride will be like at Great Adventure Roaring Rapids (along with the Magic Mountain version) was the second of the Intamin Rapid Rides to debut -

^ Glad you enjoyed the post on Riverside. I must admit this is one park that I do not know to much about. I only visited the park once while I was growing up. I later visited several times as an employee of Six Flags when the park was being converted. I always liked the traditional feel the original park had and I think Six Flags did a pretty decent job converting it from a traditional park into a regional theme park. I have yet to get out there and ride Superman or Bizzaro, hope to get there soon. -

Here's a great old ride that used to be a staple at every Six Flags park. Some still have them but not Six Flags over Texas. -

No it will not be a fast current, it will be your typical lazy river. Although there is some adjustment we can do on the speed...as a roller coaster enthusiast you know I will run it at it's full potential. I also made sure that the enclosed slides have the thrill factor turned up a bit -

Byron Allen goes to and ACE event at Kings Island to ride the Beast. You'll see some great old ACE characters: Mike Danshaw, Lucy & Allan and the rest...this clip is classic! Look at how virginal and pure these two southern California rides looked in their early years. When you look at them now you sure can tell they have been "ridden" Only the Jonas Bros are more pure than the Knott's Corkscrew it's opening year pure as the first fallen snow -

I have now failed three times in my quest to ride the world's Schwarzkopf shuttle loop coasters. 1. Back in the 80's I went to ride White Lightnin' at Carowinds, unfortunately I went on a Friday...nuff said 2. I travelled all the way to the Jersey shore to ride the King Kobra at Jolley Rogers (or whatever that place is called) I arrived to find a bucket of bolts that looked like it had not run in months (fortunately I was able to walk all over and under that thing...almost just as cool as being able to ride it) 3. And last year on my TPR trip to Japan I scheduled an extra day so I could travel to Toshimaen and get this credit...as luck would have it it was closed...and well you know how this story ends Hopefull I will have better luck as my World trek continues...Next stop Africa & Brazil Here is a tribute to its last days one last farewell to Toshimaen's Shuttle Loop ... RIP you can see the close neighbors in the distance that were not fans of the noise of this ride another view of the station with the Corkscrew in the background. Hey is this Knott's? footer porn On overview of the entire ride. The trains are still on the track a look at the station and ride in the distance Sorry this attraction not operating today...or something like that in Japanese the station I was SO close yet SO far the partically enclosed loop it sits silent launch area oh, the beauty of an erect schwarzkopf shuttle it was closed all season but still managed to make it onto their banners

A little sun and good weather sure goes along way in construction. This thing is really starting to get big. With nearly one third of the towers now vertical there is still two thirds of this thing sitting in the parking lot. Lazy River is also getting much love. I always think these shots are sexy and now back to the world's largest water play structure one of the water features along the lazy river is being worked on. work on the lazy river is moving along quickly thanks to a GREAT construction team it is a PERFECT fit every time watch those fingers that's 2500 pounds coming down. slowly, slowly ease her into place anatomy of a column. minutes later we have vertical erection. in the horizonal position... I've got a big crane too lots of vertical constuction going on -
