  1. ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON 2 CHALLENGE: Bringing the Olympics Home Source: http://www.thetraveltart.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Vancouver-Winter-Olympics-2010-Bobsleigh-Track.jpg Your team has been hired to create a recreation bobsleigh track that families and anyone else that wants to can take a run on. The problem is, bobsledding requires immense strength to just get the sled going. Mack Rides has offered to assist your team with their bobsled roller coaster system, and Intamin AG is willing to put their Swiss Bob roller coaster into limited production to assist you as well. Your job as an individual is to create the best design using a clean slate to present to the boss. The rules are simple. Design a bobsled roller coaster that captures the spirit and intensity of olympic bobsledding. Here are the constraints. A. You are able to use the following coaster types: Bobsleigh Roller Coaster Flying Turns B. Your coaster must have a height change of at least 90 feet. C. Your coaster must have two distinct sections - a downhill section, and a lift section. D. The downhill section of your coaster must last for at least one minute. E. The downhill section of your coaster cannot have any uphill sections. F. The downhill section of your coaster must be uninterrupted between the station and final brake run (meaning, no mid-course brake runs). G. Your coaster is allowed a maximum of two crossovers. H. The downhill section of your coaster must have at minimum: Twelve turns - changes in direction. One straightaway section - at least twelve sections of straight track, downhill sections count as straight. One labyrinth - three turns made in quick (at least 20mph) succession. I. If you are using the bobsleigh coaster, you cannot have more than three cars per train. J. Your coaster cannot crash! EVER! Now that you have the constraints, here are some tips! Positive Gs are good! Bobsledders experience upwards of 4 Gs in turns! You want to recreate that experience! Get creative! You will not be given a workbench! You are allowed to use any map size (be warned though, it may affect your score), rides, terrain, and scenery you want. Get feedback! Feel free to use this thread as an emotional picker-upper. People can mimic your style all you want - but you're the one that knows it the best. Bobsleigh? Flying Turns? It doesn't matter! All coasters submitted will be judged in the same way, regardless of which type you used. This is NOT a Mack Bobsled/Intamin Swiss Bob contest! The object is to not design a typical Mack Bobsled or Intamin Swiss Bob. They are simply the mediums that you are allowed to make your design on. They aren't the designers, YOU are! How will the coasters be judged? The coasters will be judged in the following manner. Intensity Target - is the track intense enough to pass as a bobsled track? 1 point for every tenth of a G above +1.5 (looking at max. vertical in the test results), with a maximum of 10 points. Realism - does the coaster look like a bobsled track? 0 to 10 points. Viewing - are there places along the track for spectators to watch? 0 to 10 points. Presentation - did the creator of the track take the time to make it look good, or was it just pathways and one of the in-game themed station platforms? 0 to 10 points. Map Size - does the track take up a lot of space? Automatic 10 points, with 1 point lost for every five tile-wide ring that the track does not touch. Criteria - does the coaster meet the constraints as stated in the first post of the thread? Either 0 or 10 points, nothing else. TOTAL POSSIBLE POINTS - 60 Keep in mind that while custom scenery is great, using it will not automatically give you 10 points as a presentation score. I am looking for how much effort you took in making the track look good, and not what scenery you used. Now for the deadline. The deadline for this challenge is Thursday February 24 at 11:59pm Eastern. How do I submit my design? To submit your entry, simply upload it to the Game Exchange with the following prefix before its name - [RCT2-BOB] Remember that the deadline for this challenge is Thursday, February 24. Interested in taking part in this contest? Just plop a post in this thread and you'll be added to the contestant pool! Anyone can enter the contest or drop themselves from the contest until Thursday February 17 - a week before the deadline. The Contenders Kraken & Manta coasterfreak101 Reviar PSiRockin' sfgamguy hydra chemical_echo Remember, you can still enter the contest until a week before the deadline! Feel free to ask any questions about rules, designs, or other related topics in the thread. ~A.J.
  2. No one made this much fuss when they got rid of Wild Maus... Or Drachen Fire...
  3. I loved Kindergarten! Pokemon Yellow came out while I was in Kindergarten!
  4. Merry Christmas everyone. I have the winners! Technically, since I only got four entries, all four entries are winners in one way or another. First Place - 44 points Charge by aceospades1250 This coaster was excellent. It was incredibly intense within the constraints throughout. The only issues I had were a few turns with unrealistic roll rates, some supports not cleaned, and one clearance issue (tunnel tested okay, but not very realistic, even for a head-chopper). Second Place - 41 points Sonic and the Temple of the Ring by coast4airtime This was a very good ride, with a few exceptions. There's some shaky track mid-way through, and some of the elements screamed Intamin. Third Place - 39 points Zealot by inflameswetrust21 Technically sound and the most original of the group. However, it was painfully slow (compared to the others) and the support work was not very realistic. Honorable Mention - 38 points Skyline by coasterlover420 The ride started out strong, but quickly lost its adrenaline in the third third of the ride. The biggest shot at realism was the support work. Complete breakdown of results - Congratulations to all of you.
  5. Honestly, Big Bad Wolf's removal makes me even more excited for what will take its place.
  6. Oh, sure. I really was trying to find the best scenes from RCT2's in-game scenarios (trying to stick to NCS, so that people who don't use CS aren't offended). Maybe I'll stick the logos in screenshots of some of the Six Flags parks.
  7. Whaaaaa? No inclined loop? Blasphemy!
  8. Only the Inverted side? Glad to see some activity coming from there. Here's to a good re-opening.
  9. Honestly? I thought yesterday was the 23rd.
  10. Wrong! Reverchon Gliding Coaster. Which was then ripped off as a Golden Horse creation.
  11. In China, reverse-engineering is completely legal. The first real Shenlin SLC built in China was the Snow Mountain Flying Dragon at Happy Valley Shenzen. While there are several new true SLCs built over there, Golden Horse reverse-engineered the SLCs and built their own, while most likely charging less than Vekoma does. Vekoma can't do anything about it! I'm not sure what they did to reverse-engineer the Maurer spinners, since there aren't any of those in China. Maybe they looked at pictures and guesstimated? This kind of thing is nothing new. Automakers that sell vehicles in China such as General Motors must be partnered with a Chinese manufacturer to "share" technology with or they're not allowed to sell, and by "share" I mean "Do whatever the parent Chinese company wants them to do".
  12. I only made seasonal banners with RCT2. I'm aiming for four RCT2, two NoLimits, and two RCT3. I'm currently in production of the second NoLimits banner, which is a scene of Doppel Looping. I'm sorry, I'm getting off topic!
  13. Not to toot my own horn, but... -cough- -cough- Photobucket automatically compresses every image I upload, so...
  14. Making banners for all the games was my original plan. I just finished the RCT2 ones first because they were more interesting to me. The only kind of banner I can't make is one using Scream Machines.
  15. Ah, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm also feeling very seasonal... Summer... Autumn... Winter... ...and Spring! Keep in mind that these are compressed. The original ones look a lot better. Notice that the trains are colored in Green, Red, and Blue...TPR colors!
  16. Since I have judged every entry I have gotten so far, unless I get barraged with entries at the last minute, winners and the scoring table will be announced tomorrow, December 24. My next contest will also start concurrently.
  17. RCT3 parks will open whether you have the custom objects or not. The objects you don't have will simply be absent when you open the park. I didn't think you were going to move all the files to the exchange. That makes the argument for a category-based database instead of a filter-based database stronger, in my opinion.
  18. I can only think of two other options - Option A - post a link to dmaxsba's thread in the forums prominently on the exchange somewhere. Option B - add new categories to the exchange - original custom scenery, and linked custom scenery. Which brings me to another thing - Has a layout similar to this one ever been considered for the exchange? I've navigated through this one and similar ones very easily. You could break everything into specific categories, and have a "view all" link that would take visitors to the exchange in its current format.
  19. Robb, I would personally like to thank you for that announcement. We must be educated that someone being kicked in the balls is a very serious matter, even though the "un-educated" people of this world tend to burst into laughter at the thought. Just kidding. It's very funny. I can't help it.
  20. Four actually, I just neglected to green-text the name. Four entries isn't bad for my first try at a contest, in my opinion. I'm sure my RCT2 contest (HINT HINT) will be more popular.

  22. No - all the expansions are still SV6 and SC6, but those files with WW/TT rides and objects can only be opened with the installed expansion pack. Some files could be WW only, some could be TT only, and some could use both expansion packs. SV7 files are RCT2 saved games created using the RCT2 Modified program. While it's not universally acceptable to showcase and upload a park made with RCT2 Modified, there are still people out there that use it, which is why I'm making a case to allow SV7 uploads. But, it's up to you. SV4 and TD4 are a must though.
  23. Well then, the zero-KB is my problem. Not entirely sure why. When I get more time tomorrow, I'll try and pick out what I did wrong...
  24. Honestly, other than those files, I have had no noticeable problems. The only suggestions I have to improve it are the ones I stated earlier, which got lost in an amass of screenshot posts. In short - Being allowed to upload TD4, SV4, and SV7 (maybe they are allowed already, I haven't uploaded any RCTLL files), and a reorganization of the file type list so that everyone stops posting parks as tracks. Sorry, but I have nothing else to report! I have been working on those banners though!
  25. Hopefully temporarily turning this thread into an "I search an object" thread isn't frowned upon. I'm looking for CSO that would be good for making a wooden ropes course/playground, similar to Adventure Mountain at Dollywood and the structure in CD5's Bugs Bunny National Park area. I wasn't sure what to look up on Google because people describe that sort of structure in many different ways.
