BrownStreak Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I arrived in Sandusky at around 2pm this past Sunday and I pulled into the Breakers Express parking lot to take a pic of the fake track- and my camera didn't work! My mf-in' roommate stole my batteries! The two longest waits I have all day were Top Thrill Drag Queen and the Season Pass Processing Center. There were two lines opened at the Pass Center- one with 4 groups in it and one with 6 groups in it- it got in the short line and watched as people 10 groups back in the other line got served before me- then the girl at the photo booth asked me a question and then took the picture while I was answering! 1st ride was going to be MF- but it was closed! 1st ride was in the back of the Raptor with a 5 minute wait. It was of course fun but a bit bumpier than I remember. I also didn't like the co-ed crew, the girl spieling sucked! Then came Cedar Downs, then I walked into the Park Ops office to see the Raptor 10th Anniversary Plaque (I worked the ride in 1999). I then rode the Iron Pumpkin- what's with those new colors?! I rode the train to the back and met two employees on the train who said that MF needed a part and would be down for a week or more! I saw the site of whatever is going in there Mean Streak had a 45 minute wait! I didn't ride it- there is something disturbing when Raptor is nearly walk-on and Mean Streak has a 45 minute line! I then rode CC Mine Train and prepared myself to wait 45 minutes to ride Sky Hawk- Immediately after getting in line they asked for a single rider (times like this make me glad I have no friends- with me at the time I mean). OMG! A) It was very short and B)I was pissed it was short because it was awsome! There is nothing to hold onto and you just feel so open! I stopped into the Town Hall Museum and wept over the WWL Model. Some other guests asked why it was torn down and as the guy was answering the question I asked "So what's Maverick," he told me CF has the rights to 25 names they have not yet used. We had a nice chat about past attractions and the fact that when the temps rise the SkyHawk/SRF areas is going to be a HUGE mess! He also told me that they were considering Single Rider lines for SkyHawk if not Top Thrill Drag Queen. I rode the train back to middle of the park and made my way over to TDD and settled in for an hour wait (it had just opened for the 1st time since I arrived). I got to see a roll back. The employees are already in a bad mood: I said to the turnstyle girl that I wanted a rollback- she rolled her eyes and didn't even respond! I usually takes until August to develop that attitude! It was my 1st time on the ride and I can definately say I find it over-hyped! It is far to short, though I did enjoy the 1 second view at the top. It goes so fast you can't really appreciate the height in my opinion. I then went over to Disaster Transport to wait in the 3rd longest line of the day- one odd thing is that only TDD had entrance hosts! No one to update the lines or anything on any ride and I did not see any employees on the midway- sweepers, etc. I then rode their Impulse Coaster and I am undecided whether or not I like GL's better or not. I then finally found a shop that was open AND selling cheese on a stick- it ended up being RAW inside. A Foods Sup saw me throw it away, he refunded my purchase, bought me a new snack and a soda- yeah Mt. Dew! I finnished off my ride day with my favorite coaster in the whole park- Blue Streak! I was in the train all alone and it felt a bit rougher running empty. It was a quick trip- I will be back this weekend. All-in-all I had fun, but I got a cramp in my leg on the Impulse coaster and an upset stomach after eating raw "cheese on a stick" batter.
BrownStreak Posted May 23, 2006 Author Posted May 23, 2006 Oh and something I forgot to mention- in years past they had games and such under the awning of the old pirate ride- I noticed that the area had nothing in it and I was wondering if anyone knew if they had plans for this buidling or something. The other major thing I noticed is that they removed A LOT of children's attractions to put in Maxair and the Impulse Coaster- which is why part of me is hoping they are putting something back into the pirate buidling- even a basic Sally darkride would be cool! PS: Please someone respond to my TR!
Carnage Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 The wait for Mean Streak was actually longer on the board then it should have been. It was more like 15-20 minutes tops. The end of the line was inside the final straightaway in towards the station. I've heard the old pirate ride building was being used as a warehouse, so the chances of something going in there is somewhat slim.
SteveC Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 PS: Please someone respond to my TR! well I hope I don't make matters worse by saying this seemed more to belong in the rant thread than a TR. It seems you had a raw deal from matters not of your making but I reckon this made everything else 'RED' to the point I would have to ask why are you going back? - hopefully of course to have a better time. Thanks for the update on Sky Hawk - I was fairly gutted that the ride was down a couple of weeks ago, in fact it was the only ride I had not done at CP (of the current rides available that is) so was extra gutted I missed the chance as I won't be back there for 2 years!!!!!!!). Well - I look forward to seeing a Photo TR soon including shots of cooked food and happy ride ops! Good luck with it all SteveC
CedarPoint420 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 The other major thing I noticed is that they removed A LOT of children's attractions to put in Maxair and the Impulse Coaster The only thing removed for maXair was 4 games stalls and for Wicked Twister they only demolished an old aquarium.
BrownStreak Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 The entire Kid Arthur's Court is gone as is Schwabinchen- which was a ride kids could ride with their parents. As far as a few posts up- I'm not complaining- I had a good time- I have a Season Pass- that's why I am going back (on Father's Day for Gay Day if anyone wants to do a ride together). Who wants to read a post where all I talk about is the fun I had- I'm just making observations. Maybe I am getting jadded in my old age (I am 32) or maybe its just the Urban Planner (my current college major) in me that always wants to improve things. I mentioned the food thing because I was kinda surprised how far they went to correct the situation- I was prepared to just pass it off as an early season mishap.
Carnage Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Actually that's a good point about Skyhawk. I'm postive on Sunday SKyhawk was running a shorter program then it was on Saturday. It just seemed like it was missing at least 1 or 2 full swings on Sunday compared to the ride we had on Saturday.
BrownStreak Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Yeah Skyhawk was only 1 full swing in each direction before it started to slow down again! Possibly they adjust it to crowd flow? The crowd flow was definately following cattle mentality that day- hit the front 1st and then go to the back- which was great as I had arrived so late in the day and the front was empty. Something else I forgot- their swing ride (don't know what they call it- you know the big set of swings that well swing and the top tilts) was closed as it Knotts'- any connection? Also, the Swans appear to be gone- I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere!
Carnage Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The swan ride was moved to Michigain's Adventure a few seasons ago. I assume you are talking about the Wave Swinger? It was most likely down because of the wind. We rode it Sunday afternoon, though the op had to double check the wind before starting the ride. It must have been borderline too windy, and my swing was spinning like crazy on that ride.
