Superdasher Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Hey Robb, I was wondering if TPR has any plans on visiting Dorney Park in 2006 to ride Hydra. If so, let me tell you something. I've actually ridden Hydra myself, and I regret to say it's a LOT like Silver Bullet! It's waaay overhyped and a lot of fun, but in terms of forces it loses pretty bad to Dominator, Kraken, and Medusa at SFGA. It's one of the slowest and shortest floorless coasters at 53mph and 95 feet, and it seems to be another "forceless" B&M. Hydra does, however, have a really "cool" element that no other floorless coaster has, and that is the "Jojo Roll" (a heartline with a cool name, basically) just outside the station, before the lift hill. This is a fun inversion because you go through it so slowly, it feels like you're gonna fall out. It seems as though this Jojo Roll is Hydra's answer to Silver Bullet's overbanked turn. I wonder why not more coasters have this sort of thing? Other than that Hydra is pretty much Silver Bullet on track. But then again, you guys didn't find Batman: The Dark Knight at SFNE that bad (I did), so maybe you'll like Hydra. The best part of Silver Bullet for me is the helix at the end, that's about the only time the ride actually feels like it is pulling any Gs. But still, I agree that the overbank is a "cool" element. It's almost like an inverted version of the non-inversion thingy on Goliath at Walibi World! Super "I've only ridden maybe 15 B&Ms in comparison, and I thought Silver Bullet and Hydra were all the hype for forceful B&Ms..." Dasher
SharkTums Posted December 24, 2005 Posted December 24, 2005 I think we'll make it out this year. Most likely on our SFGAd trip.
eddie200330 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 pick a cool time of year, my wife and I went this summer and the thermometer in the middle of the park hit 105 at 10 am. And yes, Hydra was a bit of a letdown compared to Hercules.

And yes, Hydra was a bit of a letdown compared to Hercules. Well, IMO, Hydra beat Hercules by a long shot. Hercules' best part was before the lift hill. Hydra has moderate thrill through the whole thing! Nothing to brag about, though...
