Sean Menefee
So my girl just purchased a Nikon D50 for me a few days back from butterflyphoto.com as an early B'Day present and I was looking for some feedback from some of my fellow photographers on this board. I know the 18-55MM Nikkor lens is not going to cut it for what I want to shoot so my question is what lens do you guys, (and girls) think I should pick up to get the most bang for my buck Zoom wise, (price isnt much of an factor.) Other then that does anyone have any general feedback on the camera? I've read about 1000 reviews and it's always nice to hear from people that are shooting the same sort of stuff as me, any thoughts/opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sean-
WalrusMan
I'm currently in a Photo 1 class and they have 3 D50s for loan to the Photo 1 students and for the Photo 33 (Color Photography) they have 15 of them that they loan out. It's the only camera they reccomend, although one teacher has a D100 because it can take more pictures in succession. If money is no question, get a hearty selection of lenses anywhere from 18 to 1000 Perhaps zoom, but I'd reccomend for those extremeties that you use the fixed focal length. Have fun with it, it's supposed to be a great camera.

Real
Well, I cant offer on the Nikon specifically but I do own the Canon Digital Rebel which is comparable. Nikon is still king for lenses though I still feel that Canon has been digital chips in their cameras. When it comes to the Nikkor lenses though, NO ONE competes. Be prepared to spend some money but if quality is an issue, its worth it. I wont budge from the Canon lenses because: A: Nikkor lenses dont work with Canon B. Canon lenses are #2 in industry that Ive seen C. Using the lenses made for your camera tend to take advantage of all of the options your camera has. Feel priviledged, thats a great camera. Probably what my next one will be...in 5 years.
