Paramoutn's Great America's parking lot is playing host to the General Motors Autoshow in Motion this week. All this week I have been working the event for the park, and finally got a day off today to go do some test driving. The way it works is it's totally free. You register, and they let you drive over 150 different vehicles. They are not just GM, they also have competitor vehicles for you to try and compare.

We arrived around 2:00 and lines were long so I only drove 3 cars.

H3: Decent car, I dunno not that impressive, but it was fun to take for a spin. I had to qualify for the Hummer Off Road Course in an SUV, so I choose the H3.

Chevy Avelle: Whatever it was, it was garbage. Just did my qualifying for the Corvette in it, it didn't have a line. It was fun to zip around the track in though.

Corvette: I waited 30 minutes to drive a Corvette! It was pretty fun, but lasted a whole 30 seconds. I hit 65 in the lot, in a manual, they let you get up there. Pretty Fun.

We also did a Hummer Ride along on the Off Road Course because the line was VERY long.. It was pretty crazy driving all over, and the driver that drove us went nuts up and down the steep hill.

Here are some pictures:

A shot of the Tent where you registered in the parking lot.

Ahh How I already miss my coaster.

The H3 I drove in the small SUV course.

This is the hill you drove over in the Off Road Course in the middle of the PGA parking lot.

Fun Times. It was pretty damn steep.

Up the Hill!

Next was over a bump that made you tip a good amount sideways. Fun Times!

One of the Corvette's on Display.

The Corvette that I drove. Too bad it didn't last longer.

Overall the event was pretty fun, but too many damn people. If it comes back next year I'll make sure to go during the week. They also gave out free food and drinks along with tshirts and a few other cool things.

If you live in the Bay Area check it out tomorrow, it runs from 8:00AM till 4:30PM. It's free admission and parking.

This sounds a lot like the Cadillac Drive Summit that I attended last year.

I received an invitation in the mail for that event, and I had to call and register. On the day of the event, I went down to the old El Toro Marine Base in Tustin. They had appetizers and drinks beforehand, then they had a presentation and explained to everyone how the event was going to work.

What we did was to go out to the old airstrip where they had 3/4 - 1 mile long courses set up (marked with pylons). They had various Cadillac models along with cars from Lexus, Mercedes, and BMW. We got in line under a sign that had the make and model of the car you wanted to drive. They let us drive as many as we wanted within our two-hour time slot. When we were done, they had us fill out a survey and gave us a very nice leather CD case as a token of appreciation.

It was a very nice time, to be honest. This GM one sounded like fun, too.
