January 18, 2016: Colorful Amusement Park with a stop at Guangzhou Childrens Park

I went to Yingde in northern Guangdong today to visit Colorful Amusement Park. As I had a layover in Guangzhou, I checked out the recently revamped Guangzhou Childrens Park.

Guangzhou Childrens Park:

This park closed two years ago and replaced all of the rides. A new powered coaster was built here. Although adults were seen riding it today, I got denied. I was told three different reasons.

Reason 1: I was too tall. When I pointed to other adults who were the same height as me who had been riding, this led to...

Reason 2: I weighed too much. When I told the ride I op that I ride these all of the time without any problems, it led to...

Reason 3: I was not Chinese. It is at this point that guys like Frederick Torres (he of the scissors attack at Islands of Adventure) come in handy. I would imagine that, if I was back home and denied service to a person for being Chinese, I would be out of business or out of a job pronto. For those who think what I typed is uncalled for, you are supporting racism. I am not so much mad about being denied the coaster as I am about being excluded for the 3rd reason the ride op gave.

Reason 4: The ride op is a pimpled faced @$$clown who answers to micromanaging park management.

GZ Childrens Park will get none of my money.

Colorful Amusement Park:

This park was the reason for my outing. Yingde is part of the larger city of Qingyuan. Yingde is a very small city that rarely sees foreigners. I wanted to go to the park here. The Chinese writing says the park is called 7 Colorful Amusement Park while in English, the park is called Colorful Amusement Park. There are several basic rides here and the park is located next to the river. It is a nice little place for families in this part of China to play together. The rides are 5 and 10 RMB each. There is a twin helix powered coaster called Gliding or Sliding Dragon. I am not 100% sure on the name. The lady running the rides had no problem with letting me ride this one. I also rode the paratrooper. It is worth a little bit of your time if you are in the area. I would not plan a half day for it if you are visiting China on vacation though as there are many larger parks to visit, unless you just like smaller, lesser known parks in parts of China where there are no foreigners.

This one has some nice landscaping. I believe this is an actual garden. This will finish the TR.

No. I was upset over him saying that I couldn't ride because I was not a Chinese person. In regards to me supporting small parks, I try to support small, mid-sized and large parks. I started riding rides when I was very small and it was my early experience on those rides that turned me into a life long fan of roller coasters. Although some parks and coasters are more important than others, all parks (except for places like GZ Childrens Park) and coasters are important and should be supported. Parks of different sizes play an important role in the amusement park industry. They offer something for all members of the family. A good kids/family area or family park like Idlewild is essential to the amusement park experience. I also do not see any difference in people wanting to ride the mostly tame rides at the Disney parks and me wanting to visit small parks in China.
