My family is possibly flying out to NYC, staying for 3-4 days, then renting a car to drive back to STL. What are some good amusement parks on the way back?

I see Kings Island, Hersheypark, and SFGAD. Are there better parks than those three that aren't too far out of the way? We only have 2-3 days to visit parks.

Great Adventure definitely shouldn't be missed. Another park you could consider as well is Kennywood in the Pittsburgh area. Holiday World is another option but it's pretty close to home for you in St. Louis anyways.

Already been to Holiday World and am hopefully going there for Holliwood Nights in May. Kings Island may be a separate trip as well. SFGAD looks good.

There are so many parks you can hit on the way down to St. Louis. I guess it really depends what you're looking for.

Personally, I would hit Lake Compounce for Boulder Dash and Coney Island for the Cyclone in the same day. Then I would hit Six Flags Great Adventure for a full day. After that, I would probably hit Hershey for a full day.

This is by far the best plan. You get to ride Boulder Dash, El Toro and SkyRush. World class coasters. You could also go try the Timberliners at Quassy on your way to Compounce. Awesome trip.

Boulder Dash is 2 hours away from New York, so I don't think it is worth the time. Coney Island may be sometime during our 4 days in New York, and we will stop at SFGAD and Hersheypark and possibly one more park.

^Yes! Coney Island is a bit of a mixed bag. There's only one coaster of note (Cyclone), and you might be too sore to want to ride that more than twice. But it does have an air race, which is one of the best flat rides around, and if you've never been on a Zamperla Volare before it's definitely a unique ride with its spiral lift hill and iron maiden-style restraints.

Have you been on Boulder Dash? Lake Compounce is a beautiful little park. My work commute is 2hrs home everyday. If I found myself a mere 2hrs away from the GTA's newest best wood coaster, I'd be gone. You can also hit Quassy too on the way.

If it was up to me I'd go, but the main part of the trip is NYC, so we have limited time. I'm the only enthusiast in our group, the trip can't just revolve around me (even though I wish it would ) and an extra three hours of driving just to hit one stellar coaster doesn't appeal to anyone else.
