yay101 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 (edited) My first trip report! Yay! First I will talk about Cedar Point, then I'll talk about Six Flags Great America, and finally I'll show some pictures of Cedar Point. I apologize for not having pictures of SFGAm since I didn't bring the camera to the park. If I go again this year I'll try to remember. I also apologize in advance for not taking a picture of the Corkscrew over the midway. Although if I did take a picture of it and looked back at it later, it would bring back bad memories. I went to Cedar Point last June with family (sorry for being nearly 2 months late with the post). We stayed at Breakers Express, which was great because we were allowed to go to the park an hour early. We went to Cedar Point for two days. Here is what I thought of all the rides: GateKeeper: This was a great ride. I especially liked the fly-throughs over the park entrance and the airtime hill following the Immelman. If you haven't ridden GateKeeper, or any wing coaster with a dive drop yet, I recommend the right side (or the left on Swarm), since in the dive drop you can stare at the ground and think about how there is absolutely nothing between you and the ground 170 feet below you, which is an amazing and scary feeling. 8/10 Top Thrill Dragster: This was a great ride as usual. The only problem with this ride is the long line in which you have to wait. I got on this ride when the park opened at 10:00 and the GP arrived, and I waited a half hour in line. That isn't bad at all, except later in the day it can be over an hour. 9/10 Magnum XL-200: This ride is my favorite steel coaster and my favorite roller coaster that I have ridden. It has a great drop, great floater-airtime hills, tunnels, and bunny hops with insane airtime (some of which were hidden in tunnels). If you ride this ride, go in the last row, where the airtime is best, esp. at the end. 10/10 Gemini: Good ride, but nothing over-the-top spectacular. It was worth riding. 7/10 Witches' Wheel: Another really fun ride. I wish there was more of these still around. 8/10 Maverick: This ride has the potential to be better than Magnum; it had better airtime, inversions, and twists. The reason why I don't think it's better is that the restraints hurt. A lot. I tried to keep my head back, but sometimes I couldn't keep it back. It's still an amazing coaster, in particular the first drop and tunnel section were amazing. I really like this ride and it was worth riding despite the restraint issues. 9/10 Cedar Creek Mine Ride: This was a nice family coaster, and a nice walk-on ride. Good for a family coaster. 6/10 Millennium Force: A nice, intense coaster with good airtime and G-forces, but it's not as good as I305. This was a great coaster though. 9/10 Mantis: This was better than when I first went four years ago. It is a great standup coaster with good g-forces and a great drop. If you haven't ridden it, I recommend riding towards the front or middle of the train since it can be painful at times in the back. 8/10 Iron Dragon: While not being very intense at all, it is probably one of the best family coasters I have been on. I like the woodland scenery and the part over the lake. 7/10 Corkscrew: Not bad, but don't ride in the front because it is a death machine. However, I did like the one moment of good airtime on the airtime hill. 3/10 Power Tower (Space Shot): I was scared to death to go on this, but I forced myself to ride it. When I went four years ago, this was the only ride I didn't go on because I was really scared. To put a long story short, it was a disappointment. I've been on elevators that go up faster than Space Shot does, and the drop was slower than the launch. 2/10 Power Tower (Turbo Drop): This ride is always scary, but it is so much fun. Not the best drop tower, but it was worth riding a few times. 9/10 Wicked Twister: I really like this ride; it's a ride that never disappoints, at least for me. 8/10 maXair: This is a great ride, except it's not nearly as terrifying as it looks, plus the restraints are a little tight. 7/10 WindSeeker: If you closed your eyes and rode this, you'll feel as if you're on a Wave Swinger. However, if you open your eyes, you realize you're 301 feet above the ground, which is why it's so much better than a Wave Swinger. I loved the view of the park and Lake Erie from WindSeeker. It's relatively tame, but I really like this ride. 8/10 Blue Streak: This ride earns the award for "Most Underrated Coaster at an Amusement Park." I walked on and off this ride numerous times. It's a great coaster with amazing airtime on all but one hill, at times ejector airtime, a good drop, and a very classic look. If you haven't ridden it, go in the very last row; it's the best. 10/10 Raptor: An excellent coaster. It has a good drop, g-forces, and the zero-G roll, vertical loop and corkscrews were amazing. I also like the location of this coaster over the midway. The back has a better first drop, but if you haven't ridden Raptor yet, ride in the front because the ride itself is really intense in the front. 10/10 In addition, I rode the Wave Swinger, Scrambler, Cedar Downs, and Troika, all of which were good rides. I would have ridden Calypso, but the park closed before I could ride it. The food was alright, nothing over-the-top spectacular, but not bad either. I also bought a Gatekeeper shirt, which wasn't badly priced in my opinion. Overall I liked Cedar Point and I can't wait to go again another time! Now onto Six Flags Great America. I went July 30 with my sister and some of her friends, who were all great people, since my friends don't like to answer their phones when I ask if we could hang out. Overall I really has a good time at Six Flags Great America. If I go again this year, I'll post pictures of the park onto this thread. Here is the ride report: American Eagle: This was the first ride I went on. It was much smoother than usual, and I didn't get smacked in the back of the head by the restraint on the first drop like I normally do. The airtime wasn't terrible, just nothing great. 7/10 X-Flight: This is always a good ride. I like the first drop and the keyhole element. Like I said about GateKeeper, if you haven't ridden it yet go on the right side, since you can look down and appreciate the fact that there is nothing between you and the ground. 9/10 Revolution: A good flat ride that in my opinion is better than maXair at Cedar Point. 8/10 King Chaos: An amazing flat ride that should not be passed up. 10/10 Viper Backwards: Since I've ridden this ride forward numerous times, it was really weird to ride it backwards. It was really fun, although I think the airtime was better when it was forward. 8/10 Raging Bull: I rode this ride after a rain. Raging Bull was closed during the rain, and we waited outside the entrance of the ride waiting for the ride to open. After a half hour, it finally opened, and after about ten more minutes of waiting, we rode on what was the best ride on Raging Bull I had ever ridden in my life. If you don't know about coasters after a rain, the water on the track reduces the friction between the cars' wheels and the track, providing a much faster ride. In addition, I sat in the back seat. It was by far the best Raging Bull has ever been in my life. In particular, the drops and turns provided more g-forces than normal, and it was really noticeable, and every drop after the mid-point brake run produced massive, ejector airtime, which has never happened on the ride before. (Yes I'm being 100% honest here) I would have ridden it more but the lines were too long and no one had enough money for the Flash Pass. And I got the blue train, which I never got before! 9.5/10 (a half point deducted because the first camelback hill before the brake run still had no airtime whatsoever) Giant Drop: Scary, better than Power Tower, and I rode it in the rain which made it that much scarier. The view of the park from Giant Drop was great because it looked like every ride was surrounded by fog. 10/10 Batman-the Ride: Excellent, probably the best it's ever been, although not as good as Raptor. Great drop, great inversions, and by far the most intense coaster in the park in my opinion. 10/10 Fiddler's Fling: I really wish there was more of these ride, since Fiddler's Fling was amazing. 9/10 Superman: Ultimate Flight: Always a fun ride, and the Pretzel loop never fails to disappoint. It also ran better than usual; usually it really slow. 8/10 I also rode Whiligig, Logger's Run, and Ricochet (in the rain!), all of which were great. Like I said, there was rain, but I didn't mind getting wet. In addition, I bought pizza and a side salad at a food place near X-Flight (I forget its name). It was very good pizza, but I think $9.99 is a little expensive. In addition, I bought a Giant Drop shirt at Carousel Plaza, which was only $15.99, which was a very good price. In addition, I saw a Raging Bull shirt that said it went 80 mph, but according to numerous other sources, Raging Bull goes 73 mph (in fact, I found that on a Raging Bull shirt I got in 2008 from when I first went to Six Flags Great America), so Six Flags LIED. The park was very clean, and I loved the Looney Tunes cartoons that were being shown in the waiting lines. Overall, I loved Six Flags Great America. Like I said, if I go again this year, since I live a half hour away, I'll bring a camera. Now on to Cedar Point pictures! And welcome to Cedar Point! After the taking of the Cedar Point welcome sign, I took a walk on the bridge by Castaway Bay, and I found a water snake in the water! GateKeeper during a test run before the park opened. Top Thrill Dragster 120 mph. Magnum XL-200. It occurred to me Magnum will be 25 years old next year. Dinosaurs Alive. I didn't visit that. Witches' Wheel. It's Snoopy! Yay More Dragster The Red Train... ...and the Blue train! Inflatable Snoopy! I think this is a kiddie trampoline ride. Millennium Force Maverick going up... Maverick going down! I will post more pictures later of Cedar Point, hopefully before the end of the week. Edited August 3, 2013 by yay101
_koppen Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Holy crap, there's a snake in the photos, I hate you! No not really, but it really took me by surprise (I have a huge phobia for snakes). I could only imagined what would have happened to me if I had seen it in real life, like you. Great photo report!
