Not meaning to be a downer...

Last night one of my best friends in the world passed away unexpectedly in her sleep at the age of 34. I am not posting for sympathy or to grieve as she would not want me to do that. What makes me the happiest is that the day before, I was able to share my passion for roller coasters with her at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. She was very hesitant but ended up braving Superman Ultimate Flight and Medusa with me. As we were driving home, she told me that it was one of the best days she had in years. I will be forever grateful that her last day was spent discovering something new with me that she ended up thoroughly enjoying.

I actually have a similar experience. My very close friend, practically family, of 10 years was killed in a car accident at the age of 17 on the way home from swim practice on April 17th; prom and graduation just weeks away. She was driving distracted. It was and still is the hardest thing for me right now, especially because I spent half of my life with her. However, before she died, and this wasn't the day before, but maybe a year or two, I ran into her and her family by chance at Fiesta Texas. It absolutely blew my mind; neither of us knew we were both in San Antonio. I have so many memories that I treasure from that day and since she was called home I think of them all the time; especially when we rode The Rattler and her expression when we got off! A month after she passed, I rode the Iron Rattler for the Travel Channel and was flooded with awesome memories I had had of us together from that day.

 

You will certainly be in my prayers as I know that it is not an easy time. My suggestion, and you don't have to as everyone is different, when the time is right, go back to SFDK. It feels a lot better going with a guardian angel!

 

There's just something about amusement parks that creates incredible lifelong memories. . .
