johnychen Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I am planning on making a little trip this Memorial Weekend. Saturday 5/26/12 Carowinds Sunday 5/27/12 Dollywood Monday 5/28/12 Lake Winnie/SFoG Looking for any tips on on what to do at each park. Also are there any must see attractions in each parks respective cities like must eat at restaurants or interesting tourist traps? I know there are a lot of crazy things to do near Dollywood, but it will be my first time at Carowinds and I haven't seen much of Charlotte except for the downtown area where I worked at First Union Bank as a software developer. Thanks for any advice. Plus feel free to join me on those days if your in the area.
ernierocker Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 That Sunday at Dollywood will be very crowded. Get a Q-bot, it is only 15 bucks so you can't go wrong. If you get there right at opening, you should be able to make a lap around the park, ride all the coasters, and make your way back to the front before the heavy crowds get there. Being Sunday, there will be a lot of people at church and that will hold back the crowds back until after 11. I would then get the Q-bot which is by the 4D theater in the Adventure in Imagination section just to the right of the front entrance. You will be there during the Barbecue and Bluegrass Festival so you will not have a problem finding food especially barbecue. Sample as many places as you can because all the food is good! And by all means, pay a visit to the Grist Mill and get some cinnamon bread!!!
simaticable Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 There's a TON to do in Atlanta. Go to the World of Coke, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center, or just walk in downtown. You could never go wrong with going to the Varsity either. You might also want to hit Chick-Fil-A too. It might be fast food, but it's one of the best fast food joints in the south; even more so since the original restaurant was built south of Atlanta. For SFOG, since it is a monday and kids are no longer in school, you might want to get a flash pass. Hope that this helps, and have a fun time at whatever parks you go to!
johnychen Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks for the tips. I think I will definitely get a q-bot and flashpass. Especially for $15 at Dollywood. Barbecue definitely sounds like a winner. I did not know that Chick-Fil-A originated in Atlanta. We have them in Houston but seeing the original might be interesting.
simaticable Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 The nice thing is that Chick-Fil-A is headquarted in College Park, which is the city where Hartsfield Jackson Airport is located. The first one is in Hapeville which is close to the airport.
simon8899 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 My advice would be: If possible try to get to work and cash in some extra holiday/sunday pay - then take off some days in a week where there're no public or school holidays and enjoy the non-existant lines at amusement parks! Well thats what I'm doing. It's Labour Day over here and I'm maning the supervisors desk alone - but will take the whole week off starting May 7th (no holidays then here)! Hansa-Park and Heide-Park in sight....
