chadster Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Frontier City is proud to announce new to the park in 2012, Wild West Water Works, Oklahoma's largest water activity structure! This exciting new water feature is over 5 stories tall with over 198 ways to get wet, eight colorful slides, a 1,000 gallon tipping bucket, spacious lounging deck, changing facilities, showers and more, creating the ultimate water oasis for guests of all ages. Shavethewhales Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 This is WAY bigger than what I was expecting. I thought they were doing something along the lines of water monkies at Cliff's. I've heard they're spending a full $1.3 million on it, making it a pretty size-able financial investment for FC. It does kind of make me wonder what their plans are with WWB though. Since they went this big, there's got to be some gate-cannibalization going on here. I guess OKC gets hot enough in the summer that they might as well have a water park at both locations. Besides, WWB is on the other side of town, so to some degree it's a slightly different market anyway. I'm just surprised they aren't investing in WWB at the same time. I'm really excited for the park though. This is a really smart investment for them, and I know it help them build a reliable customer base composed of families again, which is something they desperately need. The old management seemed to think they could survive on bored teens alone.
-Edge of Beast- Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The park has posted two pictures of construction on their Facebook. You can already see the foundation coming in! LINK
chadster Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Drove by over there over the weekend. More parts have arrived for the structure but not everything is in the holding area yet. New wood is being installed on WildCat at the bottom of the first drop and some additional clearing/dirt work is being done north of the guest parking lot. Not saying it won't be open by Memorial Day, but they have a ton of work ahead of them with the rainy season knocking on the door.
Shavethewhales Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 ... New wood is being installed on WildCat at the bottom of the first drop... Nice, that might be a good enough excuse to pay a visit this summer sometime. I drive past this park every few months but I haven't been in a year or two due to lack of anything new at all to see besides repainted rides. Wildcat with a little refurb isn't a bad ride at all for this state. Probably the only coaster in the park I care to ride a few times back to back. The woods around the ride really complete it, even if there isn't any airtime. I'm not holding my breath that this will be open until mid to late June. I can't imagine why they waited so long to start - maybe contractor delays. I don't think this park really ever gets things done on time anyway...
