Evanaj15 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Dear Robb and Elissa... I'm in a Youth Group that emphasizes leadership, Judaism, and Social Action. I'm in charge of planning an event, and i decided to make it based on Theme Parks and Roller Coasters and what not. Do you have any advice to make sure that it's not really bad? -Evanaj15
RAWKIN_coaster38 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Well you probably know your group better than anyone. Define, "bad"? I'm guessing that you've probably been to amusement parks before on your own, so you probably know what kinds of things to expect from going to a park. I've been to parks with Christian youth groups and it worked out fine. It just depends on what the event is supposed to be. Talk to your leaders and other group members about it.
robbalvey Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 (edited) ^ Can you do us all a huge favour and stop responding to posts that are directed to Elissa, myself, or other moderators? It's REALLY freakin' annoying!!! Especially when your answers are just "guesses", or completely wrong in the case of one of your other responses, and you don't actually speak with any expertise on the subject. As for the original poster, sorry for the late response, but being on tour makes it difficult for us to respond. When planning an event at a park, they usually have quite a few different catering options at various pricing. We normally go for one of the higher priced meals, if offered, to avoid the typical "hamburgers/hot dogs" on our tours, and at our events, but sometimes it's un-avoidable, due to options available or the budget. If you're asking about doing any ERT sessions, that can be fairly expensive, as some parks will charge up to $2,000 per hour for ERT. So you'll need quite a few people to help balance out that price. If you are doing a park that offers any kind of a virtual queue option (Q-Bots, Fast Pass, etc), I would strongly suggestion getting it for your group, or at least making it an option and educating your participants with what it is. Hope that helps! --Robb Edited August 16, 2011 by robbalvey
Evanaj15 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Actually. I appreciate that you took time to post that extremely long answer. But, an event in our group really involves everyone pitching in $5 for Pizza, and then spending the next 4 hours doing themed activities (Games, Discussions, Etc.) with a break for Dinner and Religious Ceremonies. Do you have activities in mind, or anything to keep in mind so i will sound like i know what i'm talking about?
robbalvey Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 To be honest, I've never planned an event like that so I wouldn't even begin to know what to suggest. I mean, at TPR events we do beer chugging contests and ask women to bring up their bras. Sounds like your event and our events are very, VERY different!
Evanaj15 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 Well, our events are like yours. Except, we don't have alcohol.
robbalvey Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 ^ No, they are very different. If you want an event where everyone pitches in $5 for pizza, does a themed activity for 4 hours, and then breaks for religious ceremonies, I can tell you that is NOTHING AT ALL like a TPR event. Sorry, but I just can't be of any help.
Evanaj15 Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 Like i said, i appreciate you taking your time to respond. I may not be the perfect TPR member. But, i have aspirations. Your a good man, Robb Alvey.
