A.J. Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 (edited) Well, it's been a long time since I actually finished a project. This project, however, could quite possibly the most fantastic NoLimits roller coaster I have ever created. I used the name "Frenzy" before on a mini-hyper. I hand-built it, and while it was very good, it was not great and there were lots of noticeable pumps and jolts around the track. So, after I got into Newton2 a bit, I decided to try and create the same layout in Newton2. It didn't work. So, I started anew. What I finished was an even more fantastic mini-hyper. Standing 150 feet tall, this ride splits the difference between a Mega-lite and a hypercoaster. However, this ride should not be considered an Intamin AG ride, even though some of the support structures are similar (such as the lift hill). After I completed the ride in Newton2, I decided to challenge myself to randomly create streams of water in the terrain before importing the element, and then create a support structure that didn't touch the water at all. What I ended up doing was a stroke of genius. The large-tube supports that begin and end a long section of track without supports are angled perpendicular to the track and driven into the ground at that angle, with a vertical support as, well, support. This sends the track stress directly into the ground. This ride is part of a threesome of coasters I'm calling the "Terrible Trio". This one is Frenzy, the airtime-packed mini-hyper. The next one will be Outrage, a launched G-machine; and the last one will be Fervor, a seriously twisted wooden coaster. I am extremely proud of this roller coaster and I hope you enjoy your ride. PLEASE RIDE FRENZY USING IMPROVED FRICTION. doublestufforeo Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 The ride looks awesome! I'd love to see a POV for us non-NL users. =p Great work, and I love the look of the supports!
QueerRudie Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Anton SMILED when he saw that helix on the far end...
Loefet Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Pretty nice, a bit boring with all those straight hills though... It have 1 too many trains and it should have ended at the small overbank, instead of continuing onto all those extra hills...
A.J. Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 (edited) Yes, I myself did get bored watching the screen go up and down that many times. I'm sure it would be a different story in real life, but NoLimits is NoLimits. As for the length, I originally planned to end the ride like this - Ignore the classic steel looping track, I just pasted the element in on a blank screen. There were two things wrong with it though - the first was that the hill going under the lift was mis-shapen. The second was that the ride ended up being extremely short! Compared to other sub-hypercoasters like Expedition GeForce, it was very short in length. I experimented with a few layouts until I made the one that is seen in the final product, which I think is better because of the interaction with the station and queue. And, yes, I know, train stacking is a no-no. I just like the three colors. Thanks for the input. Oh, and RD, if you think this ride's bowl is Anton-approved, you'll flip when you see the signature element on my next coaster Outrage. Edited July 11, 2011 by A.J.
