ToTa8000 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Today multiple medias in Finland have reported about bad working conditions at Linnanmäki, reasons being long working hours, little to none rest breaks and bad salary (7,50 €/h), even eating candy at wrong place. The bomb was dropped by the president of Linnanmäki, Risto Räikkönen, who got angry when he was asked about the working conditions, and he quited the interview. Later he was interwieved again, this time knowing the questions, but quited again when he was told how better salary was in local McDonald's. Older workers told Yle's A-studio, that they were almost always alone at workstations, working hours being more than 12 hours and having only one or two toilet breaks, which were held the same time as lunch was.Workers could not even speak about working conditions in internet or media whatsoever. There was also one person, who got fired after he was late about a minute from work and was playing amusement park game... during his spare time! Has anything like this happened in US parks? What kind of conditions theme parks usually have in America? Discuss!
Airtime&Gravity Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 The Department of Labor regulates working conditions here, and there is a required minimum wage. The only incident I can think of that comes close to what you described is when Cedar Fair got in trouble with child labor law violations a few years ago. Although, 7.5 Euros is probably around, if not better pay than you'll receive working in American parks. Then again, taxes are a lot higher, so it probably works out to the same pay post taxes.
MrSum1_55 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 ^Kinda shows how people don't realize what they have until they don't have it. Here, European park that pays more than an average American park with probably only slightly worse conditions got in trouble. If the same thing happened at an American park, I doubt anyone would care. Europeans get generally better conditions, a ton of time off, and better retirement policies. (I believe one or two countries require 35 payed days off in a year, while Americans are guaranteed about 35 days less than that) Wow! I guess the US really does suck! [Not meant to be offensful to any Europeans)
